I said this back when Bendis was writing Avengers. Even if you don't like the book, sales is good because that means we'll get more Avengers. And the more Avengers you have, the greater the odds you'll get something you like.
Same with BP. If marvel sees success they will continue to ride the wave. And right now the BP franchise across is having nothing but sucess.
Thats like Saying the Panthertron can handle street level goons. Its on obvious given, however, saying "His regular suit can handle more street level people like goons" Gives off the impression that Its designed to handle low tier/peak level humans, when his habit has actually withstood all the way up to Cosmic level beings, He was in that group that took on Thanos and he wasn't in the Panthertron, as well as the symbiotes that had Hyperion level strength. So your break down is off, considering he CAN take on the hulk without the Panthertron. Why? Because we have seen multiple on panel showings proving he can withstand hits from class 100 opponents and have seen him fight class 100 opponents without the gear. So your conclusion that he wouldn;t have acheived comparable results is very off considering he has never been seen using this gear until now. Yes it makes sense to use it as we have seen other genius use their own tech/ maybe hulk burster suits to face off against the hulk, but lets not pretend that he hasn't already shown he doesn't need that type of tech to take down the hulk. Exactly. Well said. Speak the Truth!
Just so no to dumbed down, watery nerfed Panther. No excuse changes the facts you just posted. He has taken shots from the Hulk and Thor in his Habit.

That dialogue, that Scheming, that two steps ahead... That's T'Challa, thats the black panther we all know and recognize, that his how he behaves, he takes on and is prepared for hulk level threats regularly. He doesn't need to call in for help for a bunch of light weights. That is also how you use the Force push... As in, its not just a push that gets over used, but its absorption tech that he can use to absorb and magnify his own attacks further, as in, the hits he took from Hulk where gonna hit hulk harder then what he dished to T'Challa, not including the heavy hit he would already take from T'Challa slamming a panthertron fist in his face
It was more than brief, he was in over half the pages.

I knew those, and I just read it. Certainly impressed with his characterisation in those moments. I wonder if we'll see more of the Wakandan Hulk Buster but theoretically it could match the Hulk strength for strength with the energy absorption/redirection technology. T'Challa showed more preparation, tactics and strategy, presence and confidence here than he has in his own series. Such a shame we can't really get moments like these from Coates.

I never said he couldn't take down the Hulk without the Panthertron. Again, you're arguing with me over something I never said. The irony of complaining about goal posting over something I didn't actually say hopefully isn'the escaping you here. All I said was that he's using more advanced tech against a more powerful opponent and that makes sense.
And we can agree to disagree that he would have comparable results without the Panthertron. He'll get better results using the Panthertron .. that's why he's using it. If it didn't increase his chances of winning he wouldn't bother using it in the first place. Doesn't mean he can't win without it (again I never said that) but it should logically increase the odds.

This was more so for the fans then it was that the story called for its use. We have T'Challa using gear he has never been seen sporting to take on the hulk (which is fine as its visually aswesome seeing a robotic panther take on the hulk) but reread what you said.
You say he wouldn't get the better or comprable results if he didn't use the gear, yet other showing say otherwise you say his Microweave is more geared to handle goons (and given the way you say it, points to more so saying its not designed to handles heavy weights, your words) and against higher tier opponents he sports more advanced gear, which on panel showings say otherwise.
Because he has never been shown wearing panthertron gear until now, the closest thing are the Dooms day Panthers and he isn't in them controlling those. I never said thsat you said he couln't win without the gear either. but its excusing the fact as if its okay that Coates has him taking hits form goons and not mowing them down with ease and relying too heavily on this ability instead of his own skill. I would also like to point out that hunter summed it up nicely too why T'Challa doesn't use tech like this to Tony, because he chooses not to. He doesn't need It, no matter if it increases his odds or is the logical thing, he doesn't need it and this issue it was for the visuals more then a call for it

Yeah, I said he'll get better results with better gear. Gear presumably designed to fight Hulk. And really that's the point of being a comic book smart guy. Using tech to help overcome more powerful opponents. That's what you do when you're fighting the Hulk.
I think he'll look worse if he didn't use advanced tech to fight Cho.

Not really unless your saying that every single time he has used his own strategies and prep to take out a powerful opponent, he would of looked better if he did it with advanced tech. Taking out Ironman's most advanced suit in the world at thew time with Windex is 100X better then if his answer to ironman's suit was a more advanced suit of his own. That when things can get into the dues ex plot armor and becomes ridicules. Again in this issue its okay as it was visually awesome for the readers, but he doesn't need this advanced tech to be very successful and he could of achieved the same results without the gear. T'Challa isn't a comic bok charatcer that relies on advanced tech all the time to achieve his victories or to prep for fights. He isn't Tony Stark, dont treat him as such

For high end threats I absolutely think he should use higher end tech. I think having him display tech feats is a good thing. It's just another form of using strategy and prep.
I don't think he should rely on it all the time either. The threat level needs to scale. That's why he'll use this against the Hulk but not necessarily against goons or whatever.

I'm a little confused. Are you saying that T'Challa should have used the same tactics (the sonic attack, followed by the foam attack, then the energy absorption/repulsion attack) while in his standard gear (Panther Vibranium microweave/nanotech habit)?
Maybe my comic book novice status is showing, and/or I don't have that much knowledge of Vibranium, but isn't there a limit as too how much damage T'Challa in his suit can soak up? I mean sure, he took blows from Iron Fist, but he took a whole lot and his suit started to tear, and that fight knocked him out for a brief moment and left an aneurysm. And sure, he took a blow from the Hulk, but it was just that one blow from Priest's series (forgive me if this has happened elsewhere) and I don't think hulk was even that mad.
I think though, you are saying that use of the Wakandan Hulk Buster was a good move, in which that I agree. But I do agree also that T'Challa shouldn't rely on advanced tech all the time to wi.n over his opponents

The thing is that the sonics and gas didn't really work. The only thing that really worked (so far) is restraining him with the energy absorbing properties of the Panthertron.
But I don't think he wants to try physically restraining Hulk in his regular suit.

Im saying that, while its fine that he used tech in the issue against cho, as it was visually awesome and it showcased BP's genius, 2 steps ahead prep, and tech feat all wrapped in 1, im also saying that if in this issue, we saw him restrain cho without the Panthertron being used, that would of had the same results in terms of feats, and it would of fit his usual method of handling threats outside of his weightclass. Agian i liked the showing don't get me wrong it was great and a very refreshing take on the kinetic energy absorption Stelfreeze created. And yes there is a limited to how many hits his weave can take, in IF case he got hit with atleast 16 of those, which gettting hit by the comparable force of 16 freight trains and only passing out briefly because of it is still impressive, even with Hulk hitting him, though he wasn't bloodlusted he was trying to kill him as after he hit him he threw a car at him. He Tanked hits from Namor too, and Terrax and another cosmic being in mcduffies run (cant remember its name atm) and Battled BD (though off panel) still showing he can tank hits.
Basically, if he uses advanced tech to beat opponents great, however there are alot of cool feats he has (especially in priests run) when he uses his standard tech but what makes it great is that he uses it in a very versatile way unique way. His mind and his 2 steps ahead prep that makes him so dangerous as well as the tech.
A good balance is needed is all, and this issue did a good job on showing his tech side, But at the same time though its logical for him to employ this type of tech agaisnt class 100 enemies, its not always the best move because its not who he is, he chooses not to use that type of tech in most cases

On all fairness they haven't been in a whole lot of fights. It pops up when it needed to in Ultimates .. it just hasn't needed to all that often as they're dedicated to trying to resolve things in non-violent ways.

It's good to see that other Marvel writers aren't sipping that Coates Kool Aid as far as nerfing T'Challa goes.
I find it patently ridiculous that month-after-month, all of T'Challa's best feats/appearances are all occuring OUTSIDE of his own solo book.
How anyone can in the face of this fact, still stick up for the nonsense Coates is pulling in the BP solo, is totally beyond comprehension.

Ok I'll give Pak his credit on this ONE story, but let's not give credit where it isn't deserved with that atrocious Storm series. Storm had been thru a divorce and had a Teenager daughter running around at the time AND none of that made it into his book. I would have liked to see those things touched on and her solo series was in no way perfect, but in terms of Storm (the break-up and her future child) no one has been writing that stuff. I think right now it's more or less a Marvel mandate versus Pak not wanting to touch on these things himself. Pak, from her solo series at least, did demonstrate that he understood her as a character and attempted to make her more likable for new and modern readers. That said, I think Pak as a writer translates well in terms of being respectful to character (not all the times but mostly). This is why I think he did a good job here in this story with hulk demonstrating the strengths of both Tchalla and Hulk without having to show one seemingly being OOC. This is a sign of a good writer and I think Pak does deserve that credit.

Pak is good writer. The problem with his Storm was that she was isolated from the rest of the MU, in her own little corner. Books like that don't survive for long.

The love is mutual my brother from another mother.
Deep down within, Coates knows that he's done the BP mythos a major disservice which is why he can't seem to resist the temptation to low-key malign long term fans of said mythos.
Reading the issue now. Pak wrote this and he did a pretty good job with handling Storm in her solo. So I am not shocked people reading this issue are enjoying what he is doing. He tends to actually research the characters and/or is a fan of the characters he writes about.
My first introduction to Greg Pak came via the excellent Planet Hulk saga so to say that I was heartily dissapointed with the Storm solo series is an understatement to say the least. :(
His take on T'Challa in the current Hulk book was pretty much spot on as it rang true to T'Challa's character, mannerisms and general ingenuity in the face of seemingly overwhelming odds.
As Brother Ezyo1000 suggested earlier, Coates would do well to learn from how a writer respectful of a characters history actually writes said character.
Just read the issue (The Hulk) and it was a nice read. I liked the dialogue between him and Jake. Him being several steps ahead of the Hulk even when the reader is left to believe the Hulk got the best of him was also nice to see.
Excellent post.
