Your point though on the face of it, logical, nonetheless remains tone deaf for the simple fact that the writer and artist both took a conscious decision to portray the recognizable unambiguous African woman with a distinctive afro and dark skin as an exceedingly ugly caricature , juxtaposed against a lighter skinned Storm with platinum coloured hair.
One doesn't have to be a rocket scientist to realise why this imagery would be offensive.
And though not to be dismissive of that, how does this character act like Priest's Malice at all?
His Malice was a ninja, not some magic drum lady, she didn't talk up a storm (no pun intended) and if she didn't yell her backstory every ten seconds, would we even recognize her as Malice?
So we're leaning into an ugly racist stereotype AND destroying a well crafted villain. Two-fer! Of the worst kind!

Nnendi commented extensively on how she made the decision on every aspect of Storm. It is reasonable to assume the the depictions on Malice is her idea as well.
It could also be a setup to kill off this Nakia to bring in movie Nakia.

You can argue maybe the discease or whatever she's suffering from is essentially driving her off the deep end, causing uncharacteristic behavior.
But yeah... she's not being terribly bright here. She's just walking up to 3 X-Men alone. Either she's real confident, or she's real nuts. And you really can't tell this is Malice. Though again, Storm herself acknowledges that to some degree.
But more than anything, I think this story is basically the equivalent of a Saturday Morning cartoon. There's not a lot of depth here, and I'm not sure they're even trying.

It seems obvious that Nnedi read a wiki page on Malice and then just interjected her own ideas.
Her "great" plan is, "I need T'challa's attention, i'll murder in NYC!!"
like... huh

If she said those kids were part the charity organization, it would have worked. Lol
Targeting Storm in NY makes sense as Eden has to teleport her in when she shows up. She doesn't have a drawer in Tchallas' dresser yet. Lol

Storm was the back up target though.

She failed...and failed miserably. I've seen other artists illustrate Storm with more obvious Black features but they still manged to make her look beauty-full. Her art is very stylised but...that's not how Rogue or Nightcrawler should look either...so yeah, she needs to try again and try harder.

She was next to Tchalla for years. Learned how to make plans?

Would it really have killed them to change Malice's real name?
Or, alternately, name Lupita's character anything else?
This seems to be making a big issue outta something that oughta be a non issue, given things that have been retconned in the past

Coming up with a viable scenario where a team up occurs with Spider-Man is probably the toughest of the books. You can easily justify going after Storm anywhere, or even the Avengers since T'Challa is an Avenger. But it's tough to come up with a Spider-Man story which doesn't come off as random. That said, this book barely even tried.
Like I said earlier, this is basically the equivalent of a Saturday Morning cartoon. Not a whole lot of thought was put into this.
Who is still drawing ugly ratchet black women after the Black Panther movie!

The key word here is Research...

There are also Essence and Black Hair Care magazines to sketch from... Attend a fashion show and take out the sketchpad and draw absolutely beautiful black women that dress better and take care of themselves for a living!
"Ugly Nakia" is dead up in da streets let it go...
Are you saying making "obvious" black features are normally not beautiful? As if illustrating them is some sort of challenge?

Nothing dismissive about your post at all my brother.
You're speaking nothing but that truth.
Due diligence and research was all that whoever wrote and illustrated that nonsense needed to do but as usual, the X-office and neophyte "celebrity" writers stay taking any and all opportunity to take a dump on the BP Mythos.

Unless they plan on going the Malice route down the line, the choice of names for Lupita's character does seem sort of random. She wasn't even a Dora in the movie, so it could easily have been Malaika. I wonder if they simply didn't pick a random name, and ran with it.

That's not at all what I'm saying.
What I am saying is her version of Storm, with all her (Nnedi's) apparently careful considerations, still looks nothing like Storm nor very beauty-full. And perhaps you missed the rest of my post where I pointedly say...the other X-characters on the page don't look how they should, either.
It's a judgement on her art-style. That is all. She's a capable artist...but that's about it. (That is not how you draw braids or locks or whatever that is).
