These should all appear in the solo BP movie
Most definitely.
You mean Wanda.
Team Stark has every other high powered dude on his side.
Unless Ant Man pulls Giant Man mode out, this looks on its face to be a curb stomping.
Then you remember how strong movie Cap and Bucky are.
Generally speaking I think the street level guys are a little stronger and the higher end guys are a little weaker than the comic versions. So the power gap in general I think is smaller, hence us seeing things Luke Cap go one on one with Ultron even though he wasn't going to win.
So Cap's side despite being the underdogs do have a shot. Arguably a better shot than they did in the comics.
I'm not going to get into any back and forth, but Shuri should be seen as a asset and opportunity.
Shuri is a definite asset to the BP mythos and was an assured opportunity to expand said mythos beyond the confines it had been constrained within for many years pre Priest/Hudlin.
She's a good supporting character, with emphasis on supporting.
I see Shuri as a character who started off in a purely supporting role who eventually developed into a solid character in her own right worthy of recognition, appreciation and respect.
She's grown beyond a supportive role.
Black Panther should have strong black female imagery. Shuri, along with Queen Mother and the Dora's will address a very problematic issue with the MCU.
The Black Panther mythos are strengthened immeasureably when solid diversity is part and parcel of its creative tapestry.
None of it has to be or should be at his expense.
The ascension of the BP mythos should not be at the expense of T'Challa, Shuri or any other Black Panther. (Past, present or Black to the Future.)
On another note, loved how T'challa out ran Cap, a car and caught Bucky on a bike. Lmao.
Agreed 100%.
That scene was most likely edited for the trailer. T'Challa probably had to gain more ground first. Either way, it gets the point across very well.
most def it had its intended effect lol
The MCU currently lacks non-white female characters of note, and especially black female characters in particular. The BP solo film, which has many viable female characters available (Shuri, Ramonda, the Dora Milaje, QDJ, Nakia/Malice, Okoye, Aneka, Monica Lynne and others), can definitely help fill that gap.
Hell, in theory it should be able to fill that gap on its own.
Agreed. Black Widow didn't take away anything from Cap in Winter Soldier. No reason Shuri could not have a similar role/part.
Uh What?? Ultimates 2?
I'm sure he's referencing the comic by Millar and Bryan Hitch from some years ago. Part of the story concerned Ultimate Cap and Giant Man troops invading other countries. It's established that Britain and other European countries have superheroes. Some other countries get mad and form a super group that attacks America.
Agreed. Black Widow didn't take away anything from Cap in Winter Soldier. No reason Shuri could not have a similar role/part.
Black Widow was, imo, a great contribution to Cap: Winter Soldier. The chemistry between Steve and Natasha was excellent.
Honestly, if the BP solo is anywhere close to Cap: Winter Soldier in terms of overall quality and especially in terms of usage of supporting characters, I would be very happy.

I agree.
At this point Panther world needs to be reconciled, and Shuri Is a part of that. She will continue to grow. We don't need a repeat of prior cast being shuffled off into limbo. That sort of thing hurts the mythos.
Shuri is no different than Hunter. I loved Hunter, he's another character that has been wasted. Shuri shouldn't face the same fate.

I say this all the time about BW in that movie. It's like that was the better treatment and representation of the character.

Excellent!
Dont know whats up with all the Shuri hate, She is s good supporting character an she has come a long way since she was first introduced. I think she has developed into a well rounded character and there is still a role for her to play in the mythos (an important role since BP supporting characters are constantly put into Limbo) It would be foolish to take her out of the mythos. Especially since Coates is forming continuity, and with his earlier comment about adding in some strong females into the story. Using Shuri is almost a given (hopefully Aneka QDJ and Sofia get some use as well. Those are some great characters that should be further explored or atleast appear in a few panels every so often.)
If Shuri ins't in the story then ther better be a really good reason for it and it better not be because she is dead or in a coma because that is just stupid and lazy
I dont think there is Shuri hate. I think she is just a talking point for posters to war about. There is nothing to hate about Shuri. IMHO, she is probably the strongest supporting character that BP got. When she first took over the BP role, they was of course that you would get with any replacement hero. I think for the vast majority BP=TChalla, and accept no substitute.

Where is the panther jet?
I gotta say though .... Ultron didn't really seem all that indestructible in Avengers. For whatever reason to me Cap's shield seemed tougher.

Ultron wasn't made out of solid Vibranium. He used most of what he had to make Vision and that Doomsday Device. Ultron just had a vibranium coating, and even then it withstood a a blast from Iron Man, Thor, and Vision (using an infinity stone) simultaneously.

Natasha was the truth in that Winter Soldier movie.
I'd definitely watch a Black Widow solo movie. :)

Haven't seen anything yet, outside of the lego set and the rumor that he was going to have one. I'm thinking he starts chasing Bucky in it and then drops out of it to pursue on foot when Bucky gets in a civilian heavy area. Presumably it can fly itself and come pick him up once he retrieves his quarry.

That would be a really neat sequence if it plays out like that in the movie.
That would be a really neat sequence if it plays out like that in the movie.
I hope so, but I'm pretty sure that the shot of Cap and Bucky getting arrested in the tunnel is the end of the sequence (and I think there's some talk of War Machine showing up as well). It could still drop him off and/or pick him up though. There's no reason MCU Panther can't have A.I. piloted stuff when SHIELD has that level of tech. The jet lego set is of the chase between T'Challa, Steve and Bucky, so presumably if it does appear in an action sequence, that's where it will be.

Likewise. I'm quite surprised they haven't tried going for it at this point. They even have a bankable lead in Scarlett Johansson.
With that said, Winter Soldier was a great reminder of how valuable supporting casts can be.
The supporting cast of Winter Soldier not only boosted the movie, but, imho, also boosted the main character (Cap) in the process.
I never cared much for Cap, but through the supporting cast, I ended up rooting for Cap for the first time while watching Winter Soldier. I have a much bigger respect for the character now.
My hope is, T'Challa's supporting cast will give that boost to the solo film and for T'Challa as a character.
Likewise. I'm quite surprised they haven't tried going for it at this point. They even have a bankable lead in Scarlett Johansson.
The fact that there haven't really been any toys featuring Black Widow or Gamora despite their succesful depictions in the Avengers and GOTG movies would seem to indicate that there seems to be a level of resistance towards merchandising female action figures. :(
I agree that the lack of a Black Widow movie is somewhat baffling to be quite frank.

Maj, I just edited my post while you replied, so it looks much different now lol.
But yea, a Black Widow movie is long overdue. I would've gone with that first instead of Captain Marvel, especially considering that Black Widow has been around since Iron Man 2.

They have the definitve take imo. SOmeone asked them in a Collider(?) interview I think and they were all "hell yeah" about it.
a long time ago, i used to be one of those shuri haters when she was first introduced into the mainstream mcu bp mythos because like most, i was dissapointed that t'challa did not get back to being bp post doomwar.
But here's the thing, upon further reflection, i gradually began to really appreciate her character when really started looking bat the bigger picture.
Shuri's introduction to the bp mythos, was a meaningful diversity move on the part of reginald hudlin, that predated marvel's current romance with "diversity" by many years.
Her ascension to full bp was hard fought when she put aside personal ambition to take on the threat of morlun whilst ororo travelled into the spirit world to rescue t'challa from the clutches of the aspect of death that was trying to lure the stricken kings spirit into the afterlife.
That story catapulted shuri from her previous status as a spoilt and selfish individual with feelings of entitlement, to a fully fledged young woman focused on being the best she could be as wakandas ruler until her brother got back on his feet.
Even maberry wrote her exceedingly well during the power arc leading up to doomwar as most readers opatiently waited to see t'challa face off against doom and become the black panther post that doom-centric event but that wasn't what happened.
Marvel decided to send t'challa off to hell's kitchen on some crazy quest to "find himself" which made absolutely zero sense but still, t'challa fans patiently waited to see where t'challa's story would lead up until the unexpected cancellation of black panther: Most dangerous man alive.
A cancellation (i might add) that even took david liss the writer of said book completely by suprise.
The events that occured during avx began to make more sense as to why liss's book was cancelled and hickman's new avengers continued the trend of t'challa's downward spiral disguised (and accepted by some) as character development.
Unfortunately, rather than focusing on what some writers had done that actually nerfed much of the bp mythos, some chose to look to shuri as being some kind of stumbling block to t'challa's ascendance whilst crying about how a "place holder" was just robbing t'challa of panel time and opportunities to be his bad ass self.
the same cats who complain about shuri being a retconned implant, remain resolutely close mouthed when the subject of white wolf and kasper cole are broached, thus rendering their arguments somewhat hollow and irrational but then again, i've noticed that there seems to be an equal level of hostility towards queen divine justice as well which leaves me wondering whether some readers have a problem with strong independent female characters being part and parcel of the bp mythos?

as my esteemed brothers ezyo1000 and realdealholy have pointed out, there's zero reason for shuri to not be part of the bp mythos moving forward unless one just happens to be more invested in admiring t'challa's biceps and bulging muscles as he leaps into the proverbial fray on some straightup sausage fest laden bp run.
The bp mythos from christopher j priest onwards, has always paved the way for strong, well developed female characters of all ethnicities as part of t'challa's supporting cast so it would be rather unfortunate iof this progressive trend ends.
That would indeed be the height of creative laziness.
oh hell yeah!!!
We have to wait till the solo to see it.
We might see it in Civil War.....but they're not going to show EVERYTHING in the trailer.

They are both visably there but whoever has the chopper doesn't give two shits.
ANd damn... how many times is T'challa gonna put a whoopin on Bucky lol
lol you can TELL its personal between them. In EVERY single action shot from both trailers Black Panther is straight SONNING Bucky like my Mother used to do me when I ate the cookies she was saving for her book club meetings...
I'm still of the mindset that Bucky doesn't kill T'Chaka and that T'Chaka will be alive during the Solo movie, only to be killed by Klaw. Of course I COULD be wrong but if Bucky truly killed T'Chaka, then mind controlled or not T'Challa would murk him. Either Bucky was framed for something that directly pissed T'Challa off (I.e. Perhaps a Dora Millaje is killed in that explosion or another member of Wakanda's Court) or T'Challa feels as if Bucky some form of crucial knowledge or information that he desperately needs. We all have to remember that T'Challa is present in this film for his OWN reasons, and chasing after Bucky with such single-minded ferocity points to something quite major. I'm just not ready to put any eggs in the "Bucky killed T'Chaka" boat.

That's why I've been so staunchly against the idea of Bucky killing T'Challa. They're not going to have T'Challa kill Bucky, but you absolutely can't show T'Challa showing leniency to whoever it was that killed his father.
