Yeah, we actually have to give Snipes some credit for having enough integrity and faith in the product and vision to NOT get it made then. He could have just went along with it for a check.
Read an interview with Kevin Feige regarding the sequel. I hope he's aware that T'Challa wasn't the focus of his own movie and that they need to fix that.
Sheesh, A wrinkle in time is getting a rather harsh reception. Maybe Ava Duvernay passing on directing Black Panther was a blessing in disguise.
It's like Narnia, it's clearly for kids.
An adult might find it off-puttingly earnest.
Stuff like LOTOR has the advantage of decades off adult nerds caping for the characters, concept and setting(even if none of them ever thought it could be done on the big screen). Wrinkle doesn't have that.
So a bunch of the reviews boil down to a bunch of adults who aren't fans of the book being all "What the hell is this?"
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: After Black Panther’s runaway success, you have to be feeling good about having so much Wakanda in Infinity War.
KEVIN FEIGE: That’s the grand Marvel Studios/MCU tradition of just being all in, right? All in on stuff we believe in, before the audience tells us what they think. You’ve heard us talk ad nauseam about the fact that we were in production on Avengers before either Thor or Captain America was released. Same thing with the whole third act of Infinity War being in Wakanda.
What role does Wakanda play going forward? It seems like kind of a new anchor point for the MCU. Can we expect a lot of the action and future stories to be connected there?
Anchor point is a good way of [describing] it, particularly as some of our other anchor points, Asgard for instance, are gone.

What can you tell us about plans for a Black Panther sequel?
Nothing specific to reveal, other than to say we absolutely will do that. One of the favorite pastimes at Marvel Studios is sitting around on a Part One and talking and dreaming about what we would do in a Part Two. There have been plenty of those conversations as we were putting together the first Black Panther. We have ideas and a pretty solid direction on where we want to head with the second one.
He he Feige just being nice, you know his head is spinning on ideas of where to take off with the bp franchise. He knows this is a 360 slam dunk of a success.
BP just blew the top off all expectations. Bot box office and toys and Merch. Big retailers done f'ed up running out of supplies and the success is bringing a positive outlook to toy companies when it comes to movie based Merch after previous years slumps.

An EW interview with Feige and the Russo bros. revealed some IW plot points regarding Wakanda.
[Spoil]So I was right. Cap takes Vision and the Mind Stone to Wakanda to make a last stand against Thanos. Apparently the entire 3rd act is set There and Wakanda is going to be a big part of the MCU moving forward. [/spoil]

Please Feige, improve on the action for the second movie.
Still hoping for the second to be titled "Enemy of the State". Then I will be hyped up.

[Spoil]Sort of reminds me of AvX in a sense. The Avengers go to Wakanda to make a last stand. If the Soul stone isn't in Wakanda, I wonder where else it might be. [/spoil]

I thought the Casino scene was pretty cool. But yeah, as a MINOR gripe some of the other scenes weren't marvels best stuff. Wasn't horrible, but there's room for improvement.

[spoil]My guess is that it will appear once the other five stones are gathered into the Gauntlet.[/spoil]

I think the action was serviceable to good in most cases, but when you compare it to the apartment scene (which is a small action set piece) in Civil War where you could feel the impact and how engaging that was, BP should have done something better or on par with that.

O thought the action scene's we're good. The first one with the kidnapper's for sure should of had better lighting cause it was hard to see, but that was kinda a run of the mill superhero action piece. The casino action scene felt a little different then the car chase was just awesome. But ultimately it was the warrior falls action sets that imo are the best action scenes of any Marvel movie, because they feel real and brutal and not pretty.
That Being said the first and the last fight's needed better lighting and needed to last a little longer. But I'm glad with what we got

What's weird about that opening action scene is that it's much easier to see what's going on in the trailers vs the theater, so I'm wondering if it was brightened up for those and might be made brighter for home release.
It opened with $20m on Friday in China. Looking to have a $60m opening weekend. Word of mouth is not good (according to people that are more in the know than I am, Chinese audiences wanted more action, especially after them getting a slew of their own action films last month), so it won't break out, but it should still finish with around $100-110m there, which is about what the other MCU films did.
EDIT: Scott Mendelson's take on it:
Thanks to a $22.3 million opening day in China (including online ticketing fees, $20.7 million without), Black Panther is that much closer to the fabled $1 billion+ worldwide box office milestone. The MCU flick got off to an excellent start yesterday, with an opening day that puts it on the path for an over/under $60m debut weekend. However, word of mouth is lousy, and frankly, I imagine Chinese moviegoers may be blockbuster-ed out after Monster Hunt 2, Operation Red Sea, Detective Chinatown 2 and Monkey King 3 all opened just under a month ago and all snagged $300m+ or $400m+ “domestic” totals.
At a glance, we may be looking at an over/under 2x multiplier after this weekend (Hollywood releases often pull multipliers of 2-2.2x, and China may view Black Panther as just another would-be superhero flick), which would give the Chadwick Boseman superhero movie an over/under $115 million total in said territory. That is still darn good. Sony's Spider-Man: Homecoming earned $116m from a $69m debut weekend and Disney's Thor: Ragnarok made $112m in China from a $53m debut weekend. If it gets to $121m, it will be the biggest comic book superhero flick in China since Captain America: Civil War ($180m in 2016). Again, there is no real cause for concern, especially as Black Panther didn’t need China to save its butt.
With that $22.3 million figure, along with $9.6m in global and non-Chinese overseas grosses, Black Panther’s global total is now $962.6m as it heads into its fourth weekend. So, it might (emphasis on “might”) cross $1 billion worldwide very late tonight. The timezone thing screws it up a little, as technically today is Saturday in China (and elsewhere on that side of the planet) but Friday here. If it doesn't happen tonight, it'll surely happen very early tomorrow.
The domestic total is now $520.8 million. The fourth weekend looks to be over/under $40m giving the Ryan Coogler flick a $560-$565m 24-day domestic cume. It will end the weekend well past Rogue One: A Star Wars Story ($532m in 2016/2017) and The Dark Knight ($534m in 2008) in North America. Moreover, it should end the weekend just past The Dark Knight Rises ($1.1b in 2012) and Captain America: Civil War ($1.1b in 2016) worldwide. Moreover, no, provided A Wrinkle in Time opens well, it does not matter which Walt Disney flick from a minority filmmaker featuring a majority-minority cast tops the weekend box office.
