Coates has T'Challa jobbing out to goon slam gary. He shouldn't be make effing jokes.
As a Yoruba can I say the idea of Coates tapping into that mythology scares the crap out of me. But I think its quite clear he wanted to write a story about Nigeria at this point. So maybe he should take his butt down to Image and just right about some Yoruba Chieftain Super Hero with vast oil reserves.
Despite the joke, i truely hope that Coates intends on making T'Challa out to be the powerhouse that he truely is. Not this enhanced, but take on class 100+ and Cosmic Beings and coming out in Top levels. He needs to come off like the true threat that he is as we have seen in previous versions.
The writer has to respect the character and mythos first for that to happen.
The fact that he's obsessed with depicting Wakanda as an amalgation of disparate African cultures as opposed to the uniqeness of Wakandan otherness indicates that the writer still remains as tone deaf and clueless as Stacey Dash.

'Tis a veritable buffet of buffoonery that belittles our beleaguered and beloved Panther abysmally!

True. It's unfortunate that the vibe coming off is one that is not respecting the character. Which is Such a Shame because despite the fact that this story has been played out so many times before, Coates (since he was set on this story) could of do solo much better in making this actually be an interesting revolution story while Keeping T'Challa true to his mythos, making the terrorists group actually legitimately powerful and a huge threat. The Could want to take the throne so they can use Wakandas vast wealth and resources to crash the economy akin to what T'Challa did to prove a point, have then want to use the space program to target specific areas on the earth to essentially take on the world because they know Wakanda has the capability to do so.
basically I am expecting the worst, hoping for atleast a okay finally to this story. Generally writer's hyping up their their ending saying it so dope and such usually don't follow through Oh how I wish that was the caseband we all end up being like "man what a twist, Coates had us going there"

Verily and forsooth!
Yon scribes brains appear thoroughly addled.
Wherefore, his saga unfurls before our very eyes tortured eyes with much vexatious malevolence.
The rape and rapine of the Black Panther mythos continue unabated I say.
Bring forth tankards of grog accompanied by a veritable palmful of Xanax for we are undone by Coates perfidious besmirching of our favoured mythos reputation.
Lol Majestik think he will get to Igbo's Next?
First he came for Hausa's but I said nothing because I am not a Hausa.
Then he came for Yoruba's but I said nothing because I am not a Yoruba.
Then he came for Igbo's....and so on so forth.
I would be singing Coates praises if T'Challa was beating the crap out of celestials with the Power Cosmic. Armbar the Surfer again. He aint owned by Marvel anyway

Or, the story could have been that the Desturi have returned and are the masterminds behind the attacks. The use a misguided Tetu and Zenzi's ideals and twist it so that they think that T'Challa is selling out Wakanda with the space program and having Wakanda more involved in the international community. There could have been Wakandans who legitimately agreed with them as well as those who supported T'Challa. Have the MAs split down the middle. Make it a balanced story without dumbing anyone down or punking T'Challa out.
And there doesn't need to be any rape camps or suicide bombers.
Why do you guys think Priest decided to write Deathstroke, instead of try and convince Marvel for another Black Panther run?
Why do you guys think Priest decided to write Deathstroke, instead of try and convince Marvel for another Black Panther run?
Priest said it himself. He doesn't want to to be seen as the go to guy for Black characters

My broda, you ain't never lied. :smh:
It's like Coates and Stelfreeze just decided to go lump all of Africa together and present same as Wakanda.
To them, I suppose the entirety of Africa is all the same and indistiguishable to their eyes. :smhx3:

Do you want him to write Black Panther?
Why do you guys think Priest decided to write Deathstroke, instead of try and convince Marvel for another Black Panther run?
Why would Priest, Hudlin or any BP scribe of worth bother writing a BP book again only to have Marvel Editorial allow non-BP writers to come through and erase everything of worth that the likes of Priest, Hudlin, McDuffie and Liss brought to the BP mythos?

so only black people can write black panther comics?...
I guess no one should be writing Batman after Morrison right?
Why do you guys think Priest decided to write Deathstroke, instead of try and convince Marvel for another Black Panther run?
Priest said a long time ago that he didn't want to be typecast as a writer who only wrote black characters.

No one said this. In the quote you included with your comment, Maj listed David Liss who is white. In older posts Maj more than once showed his respect for former BP writer Don McGregor who is white. And of course Lee and Kirby who created BP are white/jewish
Well for one Priest has made it clear he doesn't want to pigeonholed as a Black Writer.
For two in general I don't think its good for writers to come back after an iconic run.
Third, clearly a black writer is no guarantee of quality. Coates Run proves as much. Doom War was a black writer. Panther was created by white guys. We sing the praises of Liss all the damn time.

Man, the Power Cosmic must be flowing through Maj and The Professional.
For those of you who are currently not enjoying Coates' BP, why do you all keep reading it? We are almost halfway thru this run and some of you have not liked this series since issue #1. I'm curious, what is preventing you all from dropping the title completely?
Some are already doing that. I never thought I would stop reading X-Men but haven't read an X-book for over 5 years.

So Black Panther fans can express their dislike of a crappy run? Black Panther is my very favorite character. Not Storm, Cap, Ironman, Batman, Daredevil, Punisher, Spider-Man or the X-men. It's Black Panther. I read to see how stupid Coates is writing him. So that my opinion is one that is informed based off the garbage he is writing.

That too. Don't want to be ill-informed when criticizing what many see as a very bad story.

I shredded my copies of #1-#4.
Read #5 in the store.
Gotta see all sides if I'm gonna argue with folks who like this run.

Yea I remember about 30 page ls back or so I made a suggestion of how I would of tackled the story by tying it back to kilmongers so in Hudlin's run with his son and his followers.
Basically he needs to make T'Challa back to how he is supposed to be

The Coats master plan
Step 1
Disolve the monarchy
Step 2
Disolve the religion
Step 3
Turn wakanda into a catholic nation that holds general elections and loves fast food!

Exactly! Why would Coates choose to take inspiration from Nigerian and Yoruba cultures when his view of these cultures is so offensive and stereotypical? Why can't he take from the already obvious Ancient Egyptian/Kemetic/Zulu influences the Black Panther mythos already has, while adding afrofuturism to it? Coates seriously has no clue and it's getting annoying just to even see this nonsense.

I don die! O boy he better no try am ooo! My brodas make we cast charm on de guy sharp sharp!
Black Panther has always been a mix and the true Egyptian influences are fairly recent (for the most part, even after the Panther God was shown to be the same god, the premise is that it's not the same cultural interpretation of the god, which remains true because the Panther statues are legitimate Panthers, not dudes with Panther heads like in Egypt). I'm still fine with that mix (although it is interesting to note that Wakanda has moved east from earlier portrayals, which makes Yoruba influences less likely and Egyptian ones more compared to where things started off).
Why do you guys think Priest decided to write Deathstroke, instead of try and convince Marvel for another Black Panther run?
1. He doesn't want to be pigeonholed as a black writer.
2. He's always wanted to be given a prime-time hero like Batman to write. Given that Deathstroke is Anti-Batman, it enough to stretch his canvas out on.
3. No good comes of a writer coming back to an all-time iconic run. What Priest did back then was revelatory. Right now, it'd be merely great, and the gulf between those two might upset some fans.
4. He's probably got a little more juice at DC right now given how badly they need good writers.
