I think a number of fans had high hopes for nu52 Static but the initial run imploded due to behind the scenes infighting among the creative team and editor.
not "infighting." DC screwed over the person they hired by thinking they had to "fix" the MILESTONE characters and that the writer needed ANOTHER writer to supervise his work. cronyism and, frankly racism killed the last try for DC to use Milestone characters.
My expectations for this round are extremely low. I hope they don't screw it up.

I'm slightly more optimistic about Milestone. I think some people at DC realized a lot of the positive response that Marvel got regarding "diversity" could have been theirs like two years earlier had they not dropped the ball.
Whole heartedly agree. While I understand he doesn't want to be pigeon holed, he should still take some pride in writing great black characters.
I don't agree with this. Its like Ed2962 said, Priest had written other characters prior to getting BP, He wrote Spidey, DeadPool Cap, GL etc.. So then at the time when he was expecting/ hoping to get onto DD he was given BP, and he knew that once he was typecast to write Black Characters, that would be all he would get. Granted when he actually researched T'challa and his mythos, he came to appreciate and become a fan of who he was and what he represented and gave us the legendary run that the movies are heavily drawing from. That doesn't mean he doesn't take pride in black characters, and i do think he is proud that his version of BP will be emulated in the MCU (though i also think given the CW debut, there is a hint of Hudlin's WiTBP version in there too, a bit more fiery then Priests, more cold calculating type) But from a career standpoint, he didn't want to only be offered one type of characters to draw because he was just as good as others and probably better then some who were getting more opportunities then he simply because he is black. So to work hard and deal with all the bull crap racism (especially back then) and get to write popular characters, then all of a sudden, being treated as the token black guy who can only write black characters, would be jarring. Again i think Priest is proud, especially now with were T'Challa is going to be at, and that is thanks to his efforts revamping T'Chlla and setting a new foundation for him and Hudlin for getting his name out there and making people take hims seriously. I just think he wants people to see him as a writer who happens to be black and not just a "Black Writer"

From what I understand they are trying to do a live action Statis Shock show, so one would think they would put their best foot foreward on the comic side to support that. But I guess we'll see... they seemingly dropped the ball pretty hard last time around from what people here are saying.
I can't comment much on the rest of Milestone, but I still do believe there's something special about Static Shock. I think there's money to be made there, if they can just properly showcase and market the character.
-
Frankly, there's way more talent attached to Milestone this time around than the last re-launch.
Which came down to being one book with its original creators (Xombi) and one book featuring an artist writing for the first time(Static insanely enough).
Scott McDaniel was/is no Bryan Hitch or David Finch where you will accept the bad writing just so you can look at his pretty pictures.
You know I was thinking about something, T’Challa has had a lot of run ins with mutants but I remembered that there’s a city of inhumans in Africa called Utolan. I think it would be interesting if there was an arc where T’Challa went there.
I'd love to see that..
Seriously, I don't get the problem here.
He was a writer who previously didn't seem to have the same opportunities that other writers got for whatever stupid reason, and now he's getting them. That's a good thing, isn't it? He seems to be happy with the work since he's doing a lot of it for both marvel and DC, and for the most part it seems well received. What's there not to like about the situation?
The problem is people think he’s finally made the prime time when he’s still basically warming the bench for someone else, folks is acting like Hitch’s JL was the main title when it wasn’t and that is who Priest is replacing. Dude made his name on other big names but is looked at as if Deathstroke is what made his career and it’s a lock that half the people saying it’s cause of Deathstroke don’t even read it, “but Deathstroke is a big name”
Because those runs were all by garbage creative teams.
By your comments that shouldn’t matter and Deathstroke should be too 10 in sales because he is well known and is a “A-Level” character
I'm not sure what exactly is is you're arguing here. That has nothing to do with what I said. You're trying to suggest getting a Justice League book isn't a big deal because Hitch got a job doing Justice League, when the entire reason Hitch got the gig in the first place is precisely because of his popularity. That's why they created a whole new book for him out of whole cloth and let it keep running despite his tardy ass never turning in work on time.
You’re suggesting that Hitch got the gig because of his writing skills from Ultimates which I said that isn’t what he’s known for when people bring up Ultimates or Authority. It shows since nobody bought his Justice League and it never mattered in the grand scheme of things much like his Image series he wrote that no body remembers

Whether or not what he's doing is "prime time," in the least hes getting more opportunities rather than just being limited to only working on titles with a black lead. He's getting work he wants after a LONG hiatus and it's being well received. Again, I don't see the problem.

There was no long hiatus as he’s been back since FOUR years ago and HE self imposed his exile from comics to be a preacher and prose writer

The "hiatus" came from him being only offered books with black leads. He said so many many many times. He got upset about only getting limited opportunities, and he SHOULD be upset about that.
Now he's getting the same opportunities that his peers are getting, as it should be. Hence he's actually writing comics again. And from the look of things he's doing a pretty good job. Again, I don't see a problem here.

This is the comic book industry. I used to think the more idealistic way too "oh why can't he/she just be a writer/character/woman that so happens to be black.." NOPE!
He's viewed as a negro and will always be viewed as a negro.

He said that in the Infinity War trailer but lowkey he was talking about black people being labeled as "black" writers.
It’s like night and day with how he and McDuffie viewed themselves as being labeled as black writers
This is very true, Soem people embrace it, others don't. There isn't anything necessarily wrong with either of them for how they felt. I can see both sides in regards to being labeled that way. On one hand you have it feeling like its being very specific in the labeling and like its being brought to ones attention as if it matters (i have been introduced to people as "Hey this is my Black Friend X" and that can be annoying because there is too much emphasis being put on my skin color) when it serves more so ulterior meanings.
On the other hand, it can be something to embrace and say "Yes i am Black and i am proud of it" and have that mindset, and using that to further inspire other POC to embrace it and be proud and use it to promote their own stories. Again i don't think there is anything wrong, and both of them dealt with racism and they had different reactions to it. I think maybe now Priest is happier with what he is being offered, with DS, Inhumans, and JL, hopefully he gets some more bigger names as well but i don't fault him for not wanting to be labeled a certain way

It really is a shame that it has to be that way, for white people is simpy a writer, for everyone else Black, Asian, Latino, Gay, Lesbian, etc etc, Writer. But again everyone responds differently. hopefully priest is happy with what he has going and i hope he is proud of What BP is about to become. I hope they give a HUGE shout out to Priest in the BP movie, as well as Hudlin too

Uh, no it wouldn't because I've literally never said Deathstroke is an A-level character. You're using quote marks to quote a sentence nobody here has said.
You’re suggesting that Hitch got the gig because of his writing skills
No, I'm not. Where are you getting this from? I've said pretty consistently Hitch got the gig precisely because he's a star with a lot of name recognition in the field, specifically because of his run on Ultimates. If you were trying to make the argument that Priest getting Justice League isn't a big deal because it's a scrub assignment they'll give to anybody, name checking the guy who DC specifically went after and catered to because of his popularity is a bad example to use. It'd be like saying X-Men isn't a big deal because they let Joss Whedon write it, or that Green Arrow isn't a big deal because they let Kevin Smith write it. It was a creator-driven run DC designed to cash in on the name of the creator behind it.
Black Panther and M'Baku are briefly in the Lego Marvel 2 trailer.
