When was the last time Will Smith had a black girlfriend or wife in movie? Was it Enemy of the State? It's funny, he can have black kids but no black friends or love interests.
It also gets more exposure to actors/actresses of color for other film projects. And we may even get to see more large ensembles of Black actors in something other than slave/comedy/street movies.

I actually just read an interview with Will Smith where he said they cast Eva Mendes for his romantic lead in Hitch, because the studios were fearful that a black couple would put off a world wide audience while a white/African combo would offend viewers in the US. So Eva Mendes I guess was compromise or whatever.
Weird what sort of thought process goes into stuff like this.

Hmmm... interesting that T'Challa mentions protecting "it." The obvious thing he's referring to is vibranium... but I wonder if it's instead a reference to the last infinity stone. Or if maybe the infinity stone and vibranium are linked.

Concussion. Gugu Mbatha-Raw played his wife.
He was looking for something to complain about, but his reasoning was thin. When folks called him on it, he got defensive. Thing is, whenever mainstream blacks want to do something, he has to find a reason to not like it.
Very thin.. again comparing the Iron Man movie as a whole to a ~2 Min trailer and saying they didn't capture T'Challa or Wakandas essence is weak, or saying that Ross is a White supremacist and for him to be surprised that Wakanda was so advanced was an insult to black people, when in reality he is surprised because Wakanda is fooling the entire world and have tech that makes the US look like they are stuck in the Stone age.. I couldn't get through the entire rant but I find it ironic that he tries to come off like some superior, objective critic when really he seemed like an emotionally charged hater

I knew the movie was about him and a character that was supposed to be his son, but I wasn't aware there was a wife character. Was she featured prominently or did she disappear after the first act?

I read something similar.

That's this person in a nutshell, especially when he talk about things outside of comics movies/TV.

That thought crossed my mind as well. That Soul Stone is still missing.

Ouch! I didn't think of that!

Oh I've never seen it (I hope to one day), but I've read up on it and how it actually features an intact black family in the future. Its sounds like the wife bookends the story (beginning and end) and she's played by Sophie Okonedo.

It's the last movie left prior to Infinity War, so I think it basically has to be in Wakanda. Plus we know that Thanos attacks Wakanda from the Infinity War trailer, and if he's after the stone there's no reason he should be attacking Wakanda if Wakanda doesn't have one. So assuming the last stone is in Wakanda is an educated guess.
Prior to the Dr. Strange movie, I had actually assumed the Wakanda had the time stone with the Solomon frogs, but it got the soul gem instead. But I guess both work.

The mom was played by Sophie Okonedo. She's in the movie, but has a relatively small role since it's MOSTLY a father son movie on earth.

Milton Davis recently posted that the BP effect is real. I took that to me studios are looking at his properties. Give me a "Changa's Safari" movie or series and I might die. lol

Ok fellas I was just reading from a site, and they were suggesting that Wakanda possibly developed its technology as a benefit of having a Soul Stone instead of people developing their technology on their own. The question would be do you guys think that the movie will initiate a shift toward this idea possibly even building on the disassociation of the people's abilities similar to what we see coates doing in the Black Panther book with him writing that aliens were there first and inferring the aliens had the tech.
