It's looking like Black Panther will cross 400m domestic this weekend as the second weekend is playing for 108m instead of 100m.

I have seen a review calling this the worst marvel movie but when I see this numbers and other critical praise, this puts a smile on my face.
Point of reference.
For many years, Reginald Hudlin's introduction of Shuri into the BP mythos was a bone of contention for some within BP's fanbase who incorrectly perceived her as being a "threat" to T'Challa's forward momentum.
I confess that I too, was one who shared these self same fears initially but after awhile, Shuri grew on Mr as a character until I found myself totally enamoured of her character and eventually totally cognizant of the genius level move on Hudlin's part, in introducing her into the mythos in the first place.
Now we see how integral to the BP movie Shuri has turned out to be and moreso how much she alongside, Okoye, Ayo, Queen Mother Ramonda, Nakia and the Dora Milaje have resonated with young girls and women in general, who've seen this film.
Reginald Hudlin knew what he was doing.
Props to him for his prescient foresight.
I guess we're supposed to ignore how Shuri being a super genius isn't the character Hudlin wrote?

You can take that up with Ryan Coogler when you get a chance. Mwuah!
Besides, the Killmonger featured in the movie is fundamentally different from the version Don McGregor created and write in the comic books but I don't see you lamenting about that.

I know it's a past topic but I want to explain the grenade launcher thing.
Killmonger entered the interrogation room and threw a grenade in, to which T'Challa jumped on and saved everyone by absorbing the energy with his suit. So his suit was already stacked with stored kinetic energy. Chasing down Killmonger, the suit still had that energy and I'm sure T'Challa planned on using it to take out the van (or he didn't, who knows?). Killmonger was still shooting at him, which was just adding to the energy in the suit. The grenade launcher then took out all of that energy (there was a purple explosion when the grenade hit) and sent T'Challa flying backwards. I'm guessing there's a limit to how much energy the suit can contain. Everything else gets reflected away, and certainly a grenade which also expels all that energy would send T'Challa backwards. So it wasn't just because he was in mid air. It was because the energy was exploded out of the suit.

It looked pretty damned explosive too.

On another note, does anyone know why the current Black Panther Annual is being touted as the first when there was one that came about before it written by Reginald Hudlin?
-
You mean why is it Black Panther Annual #1? That's because it's Black Panther Annual Volume 6 #1.

Killmonger actually wasn't too terribly different from his comic depiction, really. Under Priest, Killmonger admitted that he was driven by hate, and we see that in the movie, it's just a little more subtle.
Both changes in the movies were done for pragmatic reasons. They needed to give Killmonger legit beef and a method of easily challenging T'Challa, and I suspect Shuri was made into a super genius so as to not make T'Challa seem like a mary sue.
All the same, I fail to see how changing those characters from their source material meaningfully reflect on their characters in canon
To me, it's a bit like how some choose to ignore the Contributions of Don McGregor to the Black Panther mythos.
Don McGregor's run introduced Killmonger into T'Challa's world and he was one of the first writers to fight for T'Challa and Wakanda to be fleshed out as mature characters to be explored and examined in a mature manner devoid of the simple cookie cutter superhero it's that obtained back in the 70's.
Without McGregor's fight to keep Wakanda uniquely African in the face of editorial interference and ignorance, there would have been nothing for Priest, Hudlin and all subsequent writers to build on.
Always spitting truth brother Maj. Without those 3 there wouldn't be a Bp movie. They all need their credit. Also not as big but a rising star, Narcisse derserves credit as well for his contributions on rise

People are just salty because it beat out ALL of their favorite movies.. ALL of them. Once Japan and China open up it's going to also best IM 3 and CWs record's as well and hit that billion Mark. And what's. More is this is the first movie and not a sequel like all the other movies ahead of it. That includes Jurassic world and starwars

Shuri is a genius in Hudlin's Run too. Just not a super genius like Tchalla.

You know this is just a random thought I had recently. You know how some superheroes have pets? What if Black Panther has a pet? I think it would be cool if it was a mythological African creature like a Nunda or Nandi Bear.

I recall saying it would be this way. Some were thinking it would be the DC fans hating, but I felt it would most likely be fans of other Marvel films.
Folks would be fine with BP having a measure of success as long as they could claim it was gained from having "the Marvel brand". They couldn't imagine this though. They couldn't imagine their favorites being thoroughly eclipsed. I mean, how?
And then to possibly outperform Avengers? Now it's crossed the line. It wasn't supposed to reach such heights!

Lol, fanboys are just gonna have to deal with the fact that Black Panther is outperforming their white faves and that he’s most likely going to be a major player in the MCU going forward. In the meantime, I’m just going to bask in this success as a proud fan.
