Marvel was getting bad press. Who really knows how much of this is PR and forced forward. DC was announcing stuff like Static, non white JLA members and WW and then movies, and marvel was getting killed media wise. So D.C did indeed force their hand one way or the other. Otherwise, they would have did that at the SDCC and totally overshadowed D.C period. JMO.
"During the extensive Q&A (via Slash Film), following the Marvel Studios presentation, Kevin Feige also addressed why Marvel didn't make any of these big "Phase Three" announcements at San Diego Comic-Con. "We wanted to do this at Comic Con this year," admitted the producer. "Things were not set. Things for Civil War were not set yet, Guardians hadn’t come out yet, the comfort with dating a few of the other movies wasn’t set yet. So the plan has been, since a few weeks before Comic Con when we realized we weren’t going to be able to do everything we wanted to do, is to decide 'let’s do either something we haven’t done in a long time, or something we’ve never done.' Which is a singular event, just to announce what we have when it’s ready. I thought that might be early August, or mid-September, it ended up being today."
I don't think you can overshadow Batman/Superman honestly. But... I think GoG success spurred all this on. They were confident enough to announce a sequel at comicon but I don't think they expected THIS amount of success.
I was at the event in LA, it was so cool! The moment I saw the costume I freaked. It looks so good, they even gave us a poster of it. I need to find a place for it. Its crazy, I wa sso close to the stage, I did not even think the stars would be comingvout. Needless to say, this got me excited for Black Panther and has made me want to read some stuff with him. Is he in anything currently? If not what should I read?
Also do you think he will get a new ongoing cause of this?
New Avengers is the main book he's currently appearing in. But for the best Panther check Amazon for "The Client" and "Enemy of the State". David Liss' Kingpin of Wakanda is pretty good too.
I'd say Panther getting an ongoing leading up to his film is a near certainty.

So, if T'challa is showing up IN costume in Cap 3...
Does that mean...
1) We are not getting an origin story in the Black Panther solo
2) We are getting a flash back in theBlack Panther solo to encorporate t'challa origin
3) they are changing the Panther mythos a bit where T'chaka can still be king but Prince T'challa is Black PAnther and protector?
So many questions... lol. come on, lets figure out this movie in one evening!

Agreed 1000%.
We really have DC to thank for these developments because it's debatable as to whether any of this would have happened in the absence of the Wonder Woman and JLA announcements and proposed launch of multiple diverse characters from the DC roster.

I'd prefer them to do flashbacks. I'm sort of over Origin stories in film.

Maybe similar to how T'challa and Cap teamed up in Tales Of Suspense #96-99 / Captain America #100.
Marvel is smartly, making Cap 3 and BP 1 tied together. Essentially, BP is Civil War 2.

I feel T'challa's is a bit different than most origin stories though. Plus it woudl be a good way to flesh out Wakanda.
I would prefer it done like Batman Begins though (non linear origin story in a way) or even like a well done Man of Steel like origin.

Are we all in agreement that --the concept art Panther costume is pretty darn good?

I think so too. I want to find out who else will be in this movie.

I dont know seems to show some prep for Black Panther since they had Chadwick all lined up and ready to go. Of course that could have just been post credit scene in Age of Ultron and some appearances in Cap 3 with no solo movie.

I dont need an origin story either. Yes, the costume art is brilliant, but that changes too much for my liking, so I wont get my hopes up.

Nah, but seriously, I'm happy he's acknowledging the news, and hopefully, NA ends on a great note.

So, finally after all this time. We will see the coming of the Panther. Now we wait.

Glad Greatly to hear that from the Man Himself and that he is happy to hear the news!
Thanks for that Victor Freeman!

Yeah, its almost like Hickman and Marvel has positive plans for the character.......naw thats crazy:)
Seriously though. Has anyone seen the Black Panther sweatshirt sold on XGEAR101.COM?

I think it will. T'Challa and the Illuminati have gone through a lot over the past two years. If Hickman follows his usual narrative, things will payoff big for them in the end. Well, not all of them.
Welcome to the thread Power Torch.
Essential Black Panther reading would be Christopher Priest, Reginald Hudlin, Don McGregor and David Liss.
The Power arc of Jonathan Maberry's Black Panther make for good reading but avoid Doomwar as if your life and sanity depend on it.
Honorable mention goes to Dwayne McDuffie's brief stint as writer on the Fantastic Four which featured T'Challa and Ororo tanding in for Reed and Sue Richards.
Thanks! I will check them out.

Alright, I will check out the New Avengers, and the other stuff you suggested. Thanks.
And I will pick up a ongoing if it got one.

BTW..... Flex sorry to hear about the family, and possibly on your banning.
--Hickman's Twitter.
Yeah, a good start would be for him to repopulate Wakanda in time for the movies launch in 2017.
That is unless by "All of Wakanda" Kevin Feige meant a village of 1,800.

So how long before BP starts wearing that version of the costume in the comics lol. I hope they don't change it but knowing Marvel they probably will.
-
I dont really think so I mean its a pretty close already it just looks like its not spandex painted over his body like most costumes and has some patterns on it not simply on his arms and legs and the mask is slightly different no real need to change much though.
-
Ya know that Black Panther movie is about to give Batman fans nightmares for decades right.
-
Wait so with a Black Panther movie does that mean BP is going to get a push in the comcs and a possible solo comic again?!
So how long before BP starts wearing that version of the costume in the comics lol. I hope they don't change it but knowing Marvel they probably will.
its so close to the comic version I doubt they change it.
-
Wait so with a Black Panther movie does that mean BP is going to get a push in the comcs and a possible solo comic again?!
Most likely.
GoG got a huge push from that movies and then spun solos off of them and a second GoG team.
Scott Lang is getting a solo soon I do believe
Witch and QS have been teased about getting "something." Plus, PAD was told when he started x-factor with QS in it that they were going to need him back in the future.
Inhumans have gotten a push for awhile and that doesn't look to be stopping.
-
I hope the movie has a dope soundtrack.
-
DC DID put pressure on Marvel. I agree totally Flex.
Not so sure.
They didn't get Boseman yesterday. Nobody is doing these superhero flicks for chump change.
Figure there had to have been some negotiation on his salary for a multi picture deal. That would have taken some time.
Unless they blew him away with a huge offer.
-
This is a HUGE win for us Black Panther fans! But IMO our worries are still not over. Will they follow true to the Black Panthers/Wakandan mythos? Or will we see a bunch of downgrade?
-
hopefully T'challa will get a glorious revenge in the near future.

I literally did not think a movie would happen. I am as shocked over this like I was when Obama won his first and 2nd Presidency.
Or When I saw Guardians of the Galaxy and really enjoyed it. not much of a cosmic genre fan--tho I did read FF, Nova and Rom back in the day.
Oh an eventually the Annihilation Saga. So i guess I am somewhat of a fan.

The whole saga is probably going to get time warped back to how thing were before. That's a problem with serial comics, nothing happens or when things do happen it's a issue. I prefer things to happen and that the heroes face dire and serious challenges. Like Marvell said, it's the pay off that matters.
While it might not seem like it, T'challa being front and center and a part of this saga is really a first for the character. This is a push, it's part of it and it will only escalate.
I think Hickman is going to make a lot of people eat crow. Wakanda and T'challa curb stomping would do nothing for anyone (or the character) other then dire hard fans. But having him struggle and then conquer something that caused issues for some of the best Marvel characters and he actually manages to conquer...would do much more. Heroes are only as good as the challenges that face. For me at least.
-
Momentous news! Enough to make me register. I salute all the Panther fanatics I have read from all these years. It's a fantastic day!
-

I am on board untill the end. BP being at the center of a Hickman story will pay dividends for the character.
-
I hope the movie has a dope soundtrack.
I agree. Something as memorable and distinctive as the theme music for Hudlin's passion project cartoon, "Who is the Black Panther?"
