Wait I don't get the infinity Stones Bit. Are they saying each character will have an infinity stones assigned to them after secret wars? I might sound dumb here but I'm confused
Thanks Moose100 hopfully he will still be there when I get there!
Hi, my name is Sheila46 I just joined this thread. Does anyone know when Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther) will be in Atlanta to start filming for Civil War? I will be visiting there 5/21 to 5/24, I know they will be filming at Pinewood studios. I would love to get his autograph and take a picture with him. If anyone knows please give me a holla! Thanks.
It seems to just be some plastic junk they're going to sell but the fact that it's being used for promotion at least implies the gems are going to be involved in the plot of Secret Wars
Greetings!

Not sure where to intro here, so I'll just plop myself on this page. ^_^;;
Poor Black Panther. I am still convinced that Marvel only announced a solo due to DC's Cyber (which I am indeed interested in). However! I shall hold out hope that T'Challa will make himself at home in the MCU; I believe it is well deserved.

I'm just going to go back to chilling to this John Coltrane. Wake me up when that solo book by Charles Soule gets announced.

T'Challa is better off without storm to be honest. I never really cared that much about their relationship and felt the wedding was a way of just boosting BP'S popularity at that time.
The wedding was cute tho

Only because it was written so terribly by certain offices
If Marvel put their full support behind it, it could have been dynamite. Instead, it was basically wasted and wasn't recognize by the X office until AFTER the divorce for some odd reason

I agree, Storm didn't add anything to him as a character and was just awkward in some stories (The Jason Aaron arc)
I actually think he's more interesting without the romance thing. The only BP writer that did that well was Mcgregor in my opinion.

I think the issue was really that Aaron (who does have a bit of history using the character) was the only X-Men writer who seemed to have an interest in T'Challa. But he didn't really have Storm in his book until after AvX. Storm was in Gillens book prior to that. So it was just one of those instances where the stars never really alligned right. By the time an X-Men writer who was interested in T'Challa had Storm in his book, the marriage was over so all he could do was give the marriage some closure.
^I think Aaron writes a great BP when it has nothing to do with the marriage. He wrote him great in Original Sin.

I think she added A LITTLE... but yeah, the character didn't really need it. And I'll agree McGregor handled it the best.

To this day, his Secret Invasion tie-in might be my single favorite BP story. I know Aaron picked up his share of haters on this thread, but I'd be perfectly fine if he wrote BP.

Aaron is so hit or miss with me in general.
I can't believe the person that wrote BP's Secret Invasion Tie in and wrote the God Butcher arc in Thor is the same dude who did Wolverine and the X-Men. He swings so wildly in quality it is... jarring sometimes
And yeah, the SI tie in is up there with The Client and Enemy of the State for me. Easily.

Thats a great meme. A character needs romance as much as they need friendships. You want well rounded characterization. The next Black Panther writer needs to make that a priority. Either create a new character or take one of the many unused heroines that would challenge. Stay away from the Batman esque bad girl trope. I want a King looking for a Queen to build an empire and not a boy looking for a girl for distraction.
I'm pretty ambivalent about storm in general, but never cared for marriage in general just because storm is major player in another franchise , beholden to their own office if I recall correctly. Which I would assume made it really hard to integrate BP's mythos into the x-men's or coordinate stories between offices. which would explain why Storm never used her position or influence to help the x-men if not financially then by providing protection. Either by stationing wakandan guards where ever they are or just building at shelter in wakanda sort of like

The heroes didn't do much as whole but I loved the part that Emma tried to get into his head but couldn't and he wrote him like a good leader.

I'm sure the movie will have some sort of love interest in it.... probably some variation of Monica Lynn (though similar to Jane Foster in the Thor movie they'll probably just use the name on an essentially brand new character). And IF T'Challa gets an on-going (and I'm assuming he will), they'll probably have Lynn show up again.
Honestly I think it USUALLY works better when the love interest isn't another existing super hero. When it's a character created from the ground up to be that characters love interest rather than an existing hero someone decided to pair them with. Reed and Sue are super heroes, but that was a case where they were essentially created to be a couple from day one.
If you look at say Storm versus say Mary Jane. Hudlin decided Storm works with T'Challa... Aaron decided he liked Storm with Wolverine. But it's VERY VERY unlikely that anyone will decide that Mary Jane will start dating Wolverine (even though he does seem to like Red Heads) because she's such an integrated character to the Spider-Man mythos.
That could even apply to a lesser used character like Spectrum. I've heard in passing some suggest she would be a good fit for T'Challa. Spectrum at one point dated Voodoo, and there's potentially a thing with Blue Marvel. She'll likely end up with whoever the NEXT writer things she might fit well with. But that's not gonna happen with Monica Lynn. That's a Black Panther character.

The thing I liked about Original Sin (honestly maybe the only thing I liked) was that T'Challa's group was made up of very different characters who don't regularly interact. Pairing Strange with Punisher and T'Challa with Emma made for some interesting interaction.
If Fury had gotten his wish and that group had become a team watching over the wall instead of just Winter Soldier, I'd be on board. It was a fun group.

That's the double edged sword of factoring T'Challa into X-Men stories. On one hand it made perfect sense. He had the resources to do a lot. On the other hand, if you're an X-Men writer you don't necessarily want T'Challa there making things easier. You want things difficult.... that's where the actual stories come from.
It's like all the complaints about why doesn't Captain America do more for mutants. Short answer... because the X-Men writers don't want Captain America to do more. They want the government and the public to hate mutants. The X-writers usually won't want Captain America or Black Panther or anyone else for that matter to help because they want things to suck for mutants, and they want to show the X-Men in their own book dealing with it. Just as Captain America or Black Panther will normally deal with his problems with out the X-Men helping him.
But because Black Panther and Storm were married, some people were expecting it anyways. And that was the downside of the marriage I suppose. It forced that sort of situation because it created that expectation. Which again is why logistically it's usually a better idea to just pair up characters that aren't being used independently in different franchises.

EVERY solo character needs a buddy and a love interest, whether it be Superman ( Lois Lane/Jimmy Olsen) or Daredevil ( Foggy Nelson/Karen Page) or Wonder Woman ( Etta Candy/Steve Trevor). The only exception is Batman because his buddies ( the Robins) become way more important than any of Bats' law abiding love interests.
If anything the love interest and buddy are more important than the extended supporting cast just because those are the characters that help drive the storyline and the audience is invested in them.
Ngassi and Syan serve the exact same purpose in B.P. stories. A story where Monica Lynn is B.P.s love interest is going to go down a different way than one where storm is the L.I.
The only real difference between W'Kabi and Taku is that one of them is canonically Gay. But Ross actually adds something to BP stories as an audience surrogate/designated wise ass.

I am going to pull out the chocolate card on this one because its tasty. I think the one thing that the Storm pairing showed is that there is a great desire for Black Hero Couple. I just see BP with a warrior woman more than a lounge singer but thats just me:) Multiple love interest is cool because Black character usually dont get those either. If I was fanfic shipping I would love to see Josiah X and Shuri coupling.

I imagine that's the sort of discussion going on in the DC boards these days... should Superman be with Wonder Woman or Lois Lane. Superman and Wonder Woman for a lot of comic book readers I'm sure was a fanfic that came to life. And I suspect that in part may have been the reason for Black Panther and Storm being paired (though they do have real history behind them apart from that via Claremont back in the day).
I think it's fun to play with... but I don't think Superman and Wonder Woman will last the way Storm and Black Panther didn't last. And I think if they just paired Black Panther with another super hero we'd get the same end result.

I'd bet money the Black Panther movie will have both Ross (buddy) and Monica Lynn (love interest).
And I think those elements are potentially even more important for a character like BLack Panther, who similar to Batman has a certain mystique and mystery about him. I think you want other POV characters operating at least for the earlier portions of the story, to help retain that air of mystery and danger. Because at a certain point T'Challa will need to become the POV character and you sort of lose that. as he no longer becomes a mystery once they inevitably start framing the story through his eyes.

Well Storm and WW have their own seperate masters. You can see the conflict, but if you wanted to use a much lesser known hero, I dont think you would have that difficulty.Lets say you wanted to hook up Anole with Cullen Bloodstone, you wont have that resistance. If Marvel wanted to hook TChalla with someone obscure like Sister Voodoo, I dont see the problem.
I like the idea of Monica Lynne.

I really hope they don't include Ross as I don't think he's needed. But if they do need a Ross, they should just use Coulson, imo. Established face in the MCU, capable - but would still be out of his league in Black Panther's world - and Clark Gregg is great.

Clark would work well enough functionally but honestly I think he's evolved past the point of being another characters side kick/buddy. Plus Ross plain and simple is a Black Panther character so you avoid the issue of the character needing to serve different masters.
