I agree with this interpetation. But I'd say that Monica's fantasy where BP saved the day, makes the "real" story more sad and powerful. It brings home the fact that in history there's not always a happy ending.
I think that's entirely fair.
does malice with the herb have super strength or durability, or is she just baseline human
Malice is enhanced. I don't think she is quite "comicbook peak human" enhanced ala BP, Cap and such but she is above normal human.
Not by the herb though, the herb only gave her control over men.
She was enhanced by Killmonger when he saved her/ressurected her after Achebe tortured her to death/near death.
Which is what irks me about this story. Malice doesn't need this dumb drum lol. She is a trained, elite Dora Milajae AND she is enhanced unlike her "sisters." She would be a handful for Okoye, Ayo, and Aneka all by herself just on her innate abilities. and if she wanted to kill Storm, she would have snuck into the shop and slit her throat unnoticed lol.
I highly recommend reading Priest haha.

Welp, the merger is real now.
Good thing BP blew up like it did so there is no chance of it getting pushed back
-
I hope the Black Panther sequel strives for Mission Impossible Fallout level action.
Seriously take your time filming the movie for bigger action set pieces. Hate the idea of being so reliant on post-production CGI.
BP2 shouldn't be filmed in 3 months. It should take 5 months or so we can see the real craft being put into the film by Ryan.
As much as I love the car chase it still kind of irks me that they didn't even send Ryan over to Korea to film any scenes. Too reliant on 2nd unit directors.

Doomwar movie confirmed lol

exactly, Nakia is smarter then how she is being portrayed right now, she would of slashed storms throat or pinned her full of daggers rather then walk Right up to her 3 on one and go hit for hit, especially Given her.... Sickness. She also didn't have to take the juferio, she would give it to people so that whole sick angle is kinda eh. Overall Im more annoyed by how she looks, but I agree I would follow her Twitter. Doubt this will happen as Marvel likes to keep it safe with their stunts and its what they have been doing for a while now. Its funny because the movie initially cost 180 mil but due to Cruse's injury, it went up 250 mil.
Might see the film tonight as reviews and word of mouth has been overwhelmingly positive. Saying its the best action movie since Fury Road is a big compliment(In terms of the action)

It works and has been successful so I get it. However, when Marvel likes so much control on post production it limits the creativity of Ryan and Rachel. There are some shots that they can't take because it doesn't fit Marvel's style. Some people thats great for (Russos). However, when you've got upper echelon/award worthy filmmakers in Ryan and Rachel I think you've got to figure out a way to give them more freedom.
Don't get me wrong I believe Marvel gave Ryan more freedom than any other MCU directors. I just want even more for the sequel.

Too much freedom might not be a good thing i.e Avengers Age of Ultron (Though I didn't think it was bad like people make it out to be).

You gotta give Russos credit for how the manage to figure out great/consistent action while working in the confines of the Marvel house. Also a lot of credit goes to them being friends with the John Wick guys. They basically allowed them to shoot scenes and I guess they learned well enough for IW.
Thats the one drawback though. They'll never spend extra time to film certain movies. Truth be told I'd rather BP2 be released in July 2021 than February 2021, but just start filming it earlier. That way they they get more time in production and a longer time in post production (work on CGI).
It irks me to see people say Blade's action from 20 years ago is better (outside of the poorly aged CGI, lol).
I think BP's action is great, but only when its clear that Coogler has control and is doing things he's more comfortable in (i.e the ritual fights, casino fight, etc).
Marvel Disney is the best in the biz especially for consistency. They'll never put out a Wolverine Origins. However, part of me would like to see Coogler's Black Panther in the same vein as Nolan's TDK or Mangold's Logan. A film that truly LOOKS different and outside the sandbox. BP1 pushes it the most out of any MCU film though. Probably will never happen, but I just know visually it would be unlike anything we've seen so far.
-
Too much freedom might not be a good thing i.e Avengers Age of Ultron (Though I didn't think it was bad like people make it out to be).
Could also make the case for GOTG2 (Although I've grown to like that film more)
I know the risks. Feige is batting near 1000 so I understand why you don't want to mess up a good thing.
I just believe Coogler is a talent that can truly transcend the genre is he gets free reign and sticks the landing. Black Panther transcends the MCU though and Feige has admitted as such. So maybe they give him more room. Maybe he gets to actually film in Africa or they give him time to travel to another location and be on set to film.
Am I the only one that hopes they allow directors to go back to using Film like in Phase 1? The first Iron Man, First Avenger and even Thor (visually) has aged so well because of it.
-
There are actually a lot of people that hate Russo's hand to hand, jason bourne style quick cuts/shaky cam stuff.
I'm not one of them, but there is a decent amount of people who are "eh" about it.
In IW, I was actually more impressed with their CGI action (Thanos on Titan, when Thor shows up in Wakanda) than I was with their more earth bound h2h stuff. their style didn't work as well in the battle of Wakanda. Camera moved around too fast and cut too much IMO. still enjoyable but not on the level of their 1v1 fights where that style works better IMO.
And yes, more freedom can get to be too much AoU was too much Whedon and, while I think it may be a superior movie, GoG2 was too much Gunn

Tom Cruise has for an actor a bizarre disregard for his own safety.
You only see that kind of thing in the Hong Kong cinema and those guys were mostly trained stuntmen(guys like Jackie Chan trained from childhood in the Chinese Opera/Circus).
I doubt many other actors would willingly take the risks Cruise does.

Ultimately depends on if Coogler is more Whedon or Nolan.
There are those who dislike Burton's Batman Returns because it was more freedom from him as well.
Even it got the best of Nolan with TDKR.
I'm good with Marvel taking that risk though.

Black Panther it much different then any other MCU movie. Ot of the time in the movie is doesn't feel like a Marvel movie at all, and it really dives into making it unique. And no, it would be a terrible idea to release Black panther in July because then it gets it's legs cut by Summer block busters.
It's smarter too keep it in February as it celebrates Black history month, and February is distanced enough from the summer to allowed BP to maximize it's legs and it worked the first time. No need to change that success.
Plus with the sequel they will nake adjustments. Do the same things that worked and Improve on the things that needed extra touch up. IMO Black panther does go in The same vein as tdk in terms of how much care is put into it. However, unlike tdk I do t want BP to be a villain movie guests starring BP like tdk was.
-
Honestly, I want more tech from Tchalla to be incorporated into the fight's, and maybe have some action sequences longer. Like the dog fight would of been cool if it added some of the trailer sequences, the first scene should of been brighter with the traffickers. Things like that are the improvements for the sequel. But Wakanda and the supporting cast interactions, agencies, and characterizations were too notch. Maybe we could get some more shots of waka the as well. But I liked the action.

I think on paper BP is TDK level. Except for maybe the fact Coogler/Joe Robert Cole probably had to work around the Klaue issue. Loved Serkis and Klaue obviously, but they were more interested in Killmonger. If Coogler had his way I think they probably focus more on Killmonger the first half of the movie as well. Still on paper to me its the closet to TDK.
The difference is that the filmmaking is what separates it (and Jordan although great wasn't as great as Ledger). Nolan's filmmaking on TDK is why its so loved day and mimicked in other films.
When Coogler's in his bag/in the zone there were times I thought I was watching the best comic book movie ever. Then there would be the more familiar Marvel beats that Coogler just wasn't as interested in or not as comfortable with. Which is why I believe having extra time in production could have helped.
There's a grittier and more awe inspiring Black Panther movie out there. Heck it could be in the rumored 4 hour cut. I just hope they take that chance in the next film and not just try to do more of the same...like other Marvel sequels.
I still think Creed is his best film or his best directing effort, but thats because you could sense the love and craft in every frame. I want to see Coogler not having to worry about the checkboxes...at all. Like Mangold with Logan and Nolan with TDK.

Now we get the group who can be the SUBSTITUTE for racism and all that mess.
Whose storyline would you rather see in Black Panther 2?
Panther discovering who those enemies Killmonger was talking about. Panther doing what so many have screamed blacks do? TAKE CARE OF EACH OTHER? A "Political figure" who viewed places like Africa as (bleep) hole countries fears empowered blacks and plots to end it?
Or A white haired mutant arrives at Wakanda needing asylum for her kind-who are hated for being mutants. Yet aside from her-those mutants are so so so so WHITE.
Does anybody really want 6 film of victimhood and fake racism? Who would I fear more? Wakanda or the X-Men?

Okay don't get me wrong, ledger was a great joker, but at the same time, his popularity I that role also sky Rocketed because he passed away as well.
In terms of what we see on screen, Erik is a more relatable, sympathetic, and grounded villain. His motivations and his contrast to tchalla had nore care and thought put into it as opposed to Jokers " set the world on fure tk watch it burn" and alot of things I didn't like too much was how joker was pretty much omniscience in how his plans were flawless to the point of bear comedic levels. Again that's not a knock on ledger as he pulled off a very different and top notch villain and joker. But imo Erik was the more realistic and relatable between the two.
To the point I somewhat wished he could of lived just because his struggles and you could see then pain and hear it in his voice.

I would much rather see the fantastic four appear in a Black Panther sequel than the x-men to appear. After al, BP first started with the F4.
BP has become the highest grossing marvel studios film domestically. Burying him to accommodate other characters would seem obvious as Marvel has treated characters whose box office numbers were high with care i.e Avengers, Iron Man, Even Captain America, so this will be seen as a form of bias over the BP franchise. It would probably be a PR headache for Marvel/Disney to ignore the BP franchise for the purpose of other big characters as that won't fly with people especially with the whole James Gunn issue, Marvel/Disney wouldn't want any form of scrutiny against them.

I'm on record saying Killmonger was just as good of a character as Joker. I just think the weak fight at the end hurts the aura of the character. Jordan although great just wasn't as great as Ledger imo. I've said before if you put a young Denzel or maybe a young Laurence Fishburne in the role it becomes GOAT status
Huge fan of Jordan's performance though. I think he'll be back in the sequel for an ancestral plane scene. Could be a dope Hannibal Lector style way to keep the character around and have T'Challa visit/pick his brain.

Yeah if I had to choose, I would say FF as a way for T'Challa to bring it full circle as they debut in his movie and he debuted in their comic. It would be a interesting nod.
Though at the same time, I wouldn't mind BP 2 focusing more on Wakanda and it's well developed supporting cast rather then bloating it with other additions. Really his cast is superior to other solo movies because Coogler actually cared to give them life. He didn't have the issues Thor, Ironman and Cap have with their cast

Don't get me wrong I believe Marvel gave Ryan more freedom than any other MCU directors. I just want even more for the sequel.
Ryan Coogler will get much more freedom to do what he wants with Black Panther 2. Black Panther made way over 1 billion that comes with more freedom.
remember I said awhile ago maybe Coates knew something we didnt which is why he put ororo with tchalla. now here we are and ororo could actually appear in BP2!!!!! am I the only one hyped!!!!!!?!?!?!?!!?!?!
Yes you are. Marvel needs to focus on getting Storm right in her own damn franchise before they even entertain the thought of her crossing paths with T’Challa. It’s bad enough Coates let her hijack the mans own comic book and the last thing the MCU needs to be doing is following his lead and having Storm hijack T’Challa’s film franchise as well.
