Necropolis is a general, grander term for graveyard. Are ther no cultures in eastern Africa with graveyards? And I'm aware Hickman is the one who wrote them that way. It was a huge failing my opinion.
I blame the whack-ass editors who referred to the location as "The African Coast" instead of South Africa or the specific city. Imagine being that vague with any other continent. Imagine Iron Man opening up with a caption like "Somewhere in North America."
I remember that footnote. I mean...damn that's a HUGE coastline. Couldn't they be more specific, like "Southern African coast"? It wouldn't determine the location of Wakanda anyway.

I'm not even going to blame the editors. Remember BEFORE the movie came out a lot of fans just saw black people in the trailer and immediately said "That must be Wakanda". There were people in the press who did set visits and just assumed the scene was supposed to take place in Wakanda Just because they had modern cars and skyscrapers. Hell we've seen the exact same thing with Captain America: Civil War. A bunch of set photos leaked that had a bunch of black people in it and people just assumed it was Wakanda.
I've also seen that stupid "I doesn't make sense for Wakanda to be technologically advanced" nonsense pop up occasionally. Because for some reason the same people that can buy SHIELD having flying aircraft carriers, Iron Man armor, and alien invasions think a technologically advanced African nation is just too unrealistic.
People are inadvertently revealing a lot of stupid misconceptions they have about the African Continent and the people who live there when it comes to discussions about Black Panther on film.

Necropolis is not an African word.
Wakanda is a fictional African nation based in Africa so the word Necropolis has no relevance to the region.

The slum thing was particularly annoying because I kept seeing people trying to argue they were making Wakanda more realistic or relevant to the modern political climate.
Which doesn't even make sense. Why would anyone from the outside world care about Wakanda if it were just a bunch of slums and people in huts?

Necropolis is neither a chinese, iranian, or Thai word, but it is used to describe such places in those countries and others. Road or building are not African words, neither are a lot that have been used to describe different things in Wakanda. In fact, Wakanda is not an African word, nor is T'Challa. They are made up for fiction. But the word Necropolis is an acceptable definition of a place where Wakandans might honor their dead. Archaeologists and anthropologists use it.
Just noticed this interesting factoid. Check out the Panther statues from the bride arc:

And now, from recent Fantastic Four issues:

First time I've personally noticed some sort of consistency concerning Wakanda's portrayal

People have seriously deep issues that they need to come to terms with when it comes to Wakanda. I don't see ANY other nation or group in the Marvel universe that people INSIST be more "realistic" by being stripped of everything that makes it special.

I've seen the "how can Wakanda be so advanced" debates creeping up as civil war approaches. Those questions will go in overdrive when the trailer for the BP solo comes out.
The BP film is gonna expose a lot of people.

As stupid, mostly. You get the same thing with the Amazons in Wonder Woman. They always lose their science because it's "unrealistic" for it to have developed separately from the world. Unrealistic how?
Still, I imagine it'll be well explained why the nation has done so much better than it's neighbors. So people should just view it like Atlantis or Asgard, as it is. It'll be interesting to see what the American media thinks of it.
A 1970s era Marvel card game, featuring the Panther. curious: http://www.taint-the-meat.com/comics/marvel-superheroes-top-trumps#more-4768
In the "easter egg" movie world, everyone wants everything ot mean something. So, until Wakanda officially appears on screen, every possibly place with a lot of dark skinned peeps is going to be "wakanda" because having an internet article that says, "FIRST LOOK AT WAKANDA IN CIVIL WAR!" is gonna get more hits than "CIVIL WAR SET PIECE IN ATLANTA!"
That and people are stupid

damn, comic book art has come a long way in a short time lol
Well hopefully Coates gives us a Priest/Hudlin Panther and not the PIS Panther Hickman has shown us. I get that sometimes you might need to make an alteration or two ofba characters normal behavior in order to make a story engaging and have it roll smoothly (though even that should be kept to a minimum, especially if the things your changing are huge, defining attributes that should never be changed) but Hickman went way over the top.
T'Challa was defined as one of the most honest men you would ever meet in Priest's run. He isn't arrogant and wouldn't try to solve the incursion issue alone with the Illuminati, and especially wouldn't allow Namor into necropolis without telling Shuri. What he would do is let her know and together, they would secretly plot to lure Namor ninto a false sense of security and then take him and Atlantis down in one swoop. Whether they accomplished both would depend of course but the attributes displayed in ED, TrO and Sw, are not only the worst attributes given to T'Challa, but they aren't even attributes he has been established to have.
I'm not gonna lie, it didn't make a lot of sense for Namor to be in Wakanda. But at the same time , the issues featuring the Tension and constant struggle between T'challa and Namor were some of the best on that run! I understand why Hickman put Namor on the team, because it made for an awesome read! As for T'challa not being Arrogant ? I don't know what books you've been reading the past few years lol T'challa can be pretty arrogant and secretive. I.e. Refusing to ride in a "gas guzzler" after the U.S. tried to get Storm to Register, Slapping Tony Stark in the face and telling him to get his s*it together, hiring Deadpool to assassinate Doom during Doomwar behind Shuri's back, Beating up Luke Cage because he tried to help him in Hell's Kitchen, getting pissy with Storm after she interfered in his fight with Doom, need I go on? Because I can lol

Noticed it completely by chance, both pics happened to be side by side in an image search. Would be really cool if Stelfreeze continues the trend.
