Curious: How many girlfriends has T'Challa actually had? Like actual active girlfriends in-story?
Monica lynne... Storm...? friend Ross's oxford chick? (meh but i guess, on a technicality)
So him dating foreigners isn't that weird when we factor that in his 50 year history, writers have given him all of ______ love interests? Mephisto divorced the Parkers and humble nerd Peter does Drake numbers in the years that follow. BP gets divorced 5 years ago and can only muster a pity f*** from Storm when the multiverse is about to explode.
Pete may need to drop some dating advice to the kang

That's a real low number. T'Challa needs to go on BlackPeopleMeet.com They'll hook him up.
Its not about race
Its about a king working on threats with 2 street level heroes and a pretend goddess who should be leading her people away from extinction
That is the "why?"
Look at ultimates... it doesnt have one straight white male and is diverse as f. No ones asked "y" bc we know why.
Its doubly true for bp to haveva "why" bc people in this very thread bitch every time hes not on the thrown doing paper work. And Coates thing right now us that the people are pissed at him
I should be clear, I was just addressing the general concept of an all-Black superhero team, be it DC or Marvel or indie, and the general arguments I've heard against it. I'm not specifically talking about this group you all are hypothesizing about here.
Although I do agree that Hudlin's New Orleans arc would have been a perfect origin to create such a team. A group of Black heroes just happened to be in the same place, join up to fight a specific threat, and afterwards all mutually agree that they worked well together and should keep it up. This is basically the origin of the original Avengers.

To be fair, Hudlin' BP was a cheating thot growing up. Storm said so!
Then again... Storm said so...
Are we trusting allegations made by ex-wives before they became wives?
Right, I considered that at first, but that was only one story I believe. At best a fling, not to mention it was never brought up again by any of the subsequent writers.
It is safe to say that T'Challa has had long-term relationships with only foreigners. He hasn't had one yet with a Wakandan, which is...kinda weird actually lol.
Probably easier to dump a chick if she's not related to the tribal nobility of your country and capable of causing a Civil War.
Frenzy...? Magnificent 7 of only it could be used.
Not many Black female super humans to choose from. Frenzy was a one-time villain but I doubt if T'Challa would have any problem having her on the team.
If they did do a Crew title, what would these heroes reasons to stay together? T'Challa brought them in to help deal with the villains behind the rebellion in Wakanda. What would be the motivation for them keep being a team and what would they focus on as their cause? As much as people like this line up, how long would this title last?
I like the idea that's been suggested that they be a semi-international, semi-shadow group. They'll get involved in cases that the Avengers can't or won't take. Or sometimes when SHEILD/Avengers themselves are the problem. There maybe even a mission or two where T'Challa has to recuse himself but helps in small ways while pretending that he isn't. The core of the team is small (maybe four), but others are brought in as needed.
I'd also like to see a scene where Moon Knight or Voodoo or whoever goes to BP and is like, "There's this big thing happening! Can you call the Crew?" And BP is like, "Weren't you just in New York? Why didn't you call the other Avengers when you were there?" And MK says, "Well Cap's squad is in the middle of some Dr Doom thing. Tony's squad is available, but we had an argument and I don't wanna talk to him right now if I don't have to." BP or Luke would be like, I know the feeling..

I feel Frenzy and Luke are somewhat duplicative in powerset. That's the only hesitation I'd have.

Yeah but like I mentioned, not that many Black female super humans to choose from. I also wanted a good balance of male/female.
Any other Black females other than Storm and Riri Williams that fit the bill?
Honestly, Riri was what popped into my mind, although the jury's obviously still out (I wouldn't want to prejudge her, but I also can't accept that she'll be a good character without seeing her).
I'll give it some thought and see if anyone comes to mind.
If you want another male suggestion that offers something different, what about Tyrone Johnson?

We'll I'd like to keep a good ratio of male/female and not have it be one-sided. I can think of quite a few Black male characters. Heck I'd have the Prowler as an on again/ off gain member.
The females are the harder ones to come up with. I can think of Tempest and Threnody but they don't fit the scheme.

Net Flicks varients of marvel characters seem to get a lot more action than their movie counterparts. Matt, Luke, Claire are all seem to go for pretty much every significant marvel character of the opposite gender they come across.

I am guessing they're sort of assembling the "Justice League" or whatever of black marvel characters at least as far as the core of the group. In other words high profile big name black characters (high profile as far as being on TV shows or movies or whatever). That's why a character like Misty potentially fits, and why Storm and Luke are absolute givens.
Blade works too from that definition, though he's never been much of a team player in a long term sense.
Oh it's clearly a black justice league fun-sized edition. I said it a few weeks ago that 1. i don't believe in coincidences and 2. it's not a coincidence that The Crew debuts a week after Luke and Misty are streamed by millions.
Over the course of one weekend, Mercedes may now be the 2nd most known black marvel superheroine in the world... behind Ororo. Cage is now the 2nd most important black male superhero behind BP. So i'm sure someone a year ago was like hey, why not just have BP, Storm, Cage and Misty be best friends since forever? We can come up with the details later.. or hell, if it's popular enough, spin-off book!
If they announce the new book tomm, I think its 33/33/33 on it being a Crew book, a Shuri-centric solo, or some far left field shtick. BP:WoW seems pretty all encompassing as far as all other bp mytho characters not named Shuri.

Man, I miss ball. Haven't bee able to play consistently since undergrad. Just ain't no where to do it... it sucks wasting 2 hours of your day and end up playing 3 shitty games with a bunch of scrubs lol
Plus I had to choose between lifting weigths seriously or ball... those two don't mix very well unfortunately.
I expect the Wakandan palace to have a full size BBall court

I've been lucky enough to have time to hoop and even then, my game has be sluggish as time went on.
Wouldn't be surprised if there was a basketball court. T'Challa was a teacher in Harlem for a while after all.

Back in the day most Comic Book characters only had one canon love interest. Superman/Lois, Wonder Woman/Steve Trevor, Cap/Sharon Carter and all that.
Then in the 80's and 90's the editors decided to switch things up with thier unconnected characters and later on broke up most of the one that were connected.
Black Pather was regularly published during the time when all comic characters were still one woman men (Even Cage).
There was no ongoing Black Panther comic during the 80's or 90's so the character was a bit of a throwback in that aspect when he got a book again (Priest run) and
he was still a one woman man...who just wasn't with his woman.
And Reg married BP off to Storm. Even Reg giving Black Panther a womanizing backstory doesn't negate that the character's always
has been portrayed as a one woman man.
The character just happened to miss out on the "every Marvel hero gets a new love interest because the writers are bored" phase that happened in the late 80's.

Lol, will keep you all posted if something comes up on my twitter feed. I really wish there would be a live stream for this. It's the 50th anniversary after all.
I wonder if it's because they have already covered alot of the Bp stuff that it's not a live stream. Though the 3rd book seems like something they would want to announce live I would think

Most of these people actually like other, so that helps a lot.
The Illuminati needed a huge outside threat to keep them together. The classic Defenders needed both a huge outside threat and Doc Strange forcing them to team up.
The Ultimates each have common goals to explain why Black Panther, Blue Marvel and America Chavez would ever be in the same room together.
This doesn't have any of those problems, imo. Manifold, is BP's current protoge, Storm's BP's ex, Cage and Misty are longtime friends/allies.
The only issues here is that kinda leaves Blade's inclusion out since he's antisocial.

Ahhh... so validates my perspective of how silly (borderline petty) it is to throw the "he doesn't date wakandan women" card when the guy only has 2 girlfriends in 50 years and went a 20 year gap of being 12th man on the bench during the 80s and 90s hump fest. Which is also tied to the long gaps of writer-induced asexuality subjugation post-marriage b/c few writers ever cared to write about him or his love life, solo or not.
More reason why Priest and Hudlin are legends, even with the ups and downs I have with their runs.
