We don't even know if Hudlin is available. He's doing Static Shock, among other things. While Marvel had it's head in the sand, WB snatched Hudlin up. Hudlin needs to be involved. Maybe not as the director, but as a executive producer. He could do a lot there that would insure that movie was a success. I'd go as far as saying he needs to be one on the next cap. Funny, Hickman said the same Hudlin is a no brainier to be involved.
I'd go with Antoine Fuqua as director, with Hudlin as the executive producer and Denzel as T'chaka.
BP would be a massive hit.
So guys, got a question for you.
I've always enjoyed the Panther when he shows up in whatever books Im reading (New Avengers for example), but Ive never found a good place to jump in with the character's solo titles. I did try the first issue where his sister took over and the identity of the new female Panther was a mystery.
Anyway, Ive been meaning to ask and the announcement of the film just sort of provided a great chance for me to finally do it:
What should I be reading? Sell me on the Black Panther.
Ive seen some art by Simone Biache (spelling?) and a costume that looks badass as hell, but cant find any issues the artist actually did. Where those just covers?
I hear good things about the run that Romita Jr drew. Is that worth checking out?
So where should I be looking?
PRIEST. Man its worth hunting down on EBAY Thats how I got the entire run. The first two arcs are in trade but the whole thing is the definitive take on the character bar none. SOoooo glad I got them things now. They probably jackin prices right about now if you can find them lol.

All I read from Majestic's post was...
The challenge is not to exoticise. Black Panther sports tribal jewellery atop the usual skin-tight leotard – likely a nightmare when jiggling around in combat – that isn’t too clunkingly African. More problematic could be his rooting in a comic called Jungle Action, and his claws in the concept art. Comparing black people to animals, or characterising them as primitive jungle creatures, are classic racist tropes, and ones made by Marvel’s writers even as they sought to empower their character. Can this film avoid being the Um Bongo of cinema?
Um Bongo???
One of the fears of a live action Black Panther film is if they can produce something that does not tank at the box office nor tank in the minds of those set in "escapism" mode!
The think tanks will come out in full force now that the movie is on the horizon and certain questions will have to be asked moving forward!
Black folks as animals (Man-Ape) was always going to be problematic and with the rise of Chinese investments in Africa along with the fears of Ebola this continent is seeking to see what type of relations it can gain in the west!
In China comic book movies have sold better there than in the states and China may not want to associate with negativity that could alter their African investment strategies!
A bad look from Marvel/Disney can go a long ways towards disrupting what could also be a Middle Passage reunion of sorts!
The Black Panther is not a middle ground character... It is either going to be very successful or just the opposite!
Ensembles... Animal based villains... Bumbling government agents... The return of comic book campiness... All these things can be hindrances to this movie!
I am only paying to see Black Panther not really anything else so focus on the main character and only let sophisticated villains jack the narrative as most super hero movies do!
Years from now I don't want to be fast forwarding the DVD to just the action parts like I do with Darth Maul in Star Wars episode 1... Fill in those blanks extra carefully and don't assume what a few will like will also inspire a movie going audience as well!
Majestic pointed out on Hudlin's site that Django Unchained flinched at the moment Django should have killed the main villain and was cinematically robbed of that opportunity!
You don't ever want to forget that we are here for T'challa first and confusing the fans about whether or not he wears the pants in the kingdom is a bad idea!
If fans spill out into the parking lots after the movie talking about anything other than him or the main villain then somebody goofed up the narrative with characters that robbed him of his time to shine like Ultimate Avengers: Rise of The Black Panther...

New Era has no excuse not to come out with some new fitted hats (snapbacks must die!!!) based on the Panther. www.neweracap.com I will be writing to them regularly.

That service is great.

Usually it's stuff a couple months old but the back catalog is huge. I'm going through Busiek's Avengers right now. But I've got a lot of stuff on the back burner.

There are... others ways to get ahold of Priests run if you really want it.
Isn't Static Shock just a web series? If so, I can't see it taking up too much of Hudlin's time. But not sure Marvel would want to "share" anyone like that.
Is Static Shock even officially off the ground yet? DC doesn't have the track record that Marvel has and I don't 100% trust everyting they said is going to happen is actually going to happen.
Any who...
Denzel for T'chaka has to happen. And I would almost guarantee they are calling him as soon as any script is done. Too bad Hounson was cast already as Korath. He would have worked as well.
Whoever they go with the female lead (whether that be a love interest, Shuri, or his mom) will be very interesting. Every one of marvels movies has had a "female lead."

If they are getting Jaden Smith, I doubt they will go the web route.
I agree about Denzel. T'chaka pulling the equalizer on Wakanda's enemies.

So
Captain America: CW
Black Panther
Avengers 3 (Infinity Wars part 1 & 2)
Black Panther 2 and 3?
I wonder if they are going to treat Avengers as one flick that is split.

I know I'm late but:

Yeah I think thats what they are doing filming back to back

So then no more Avengers Movies? Its hard to tell how far they mapped things out when they do contracts.

How do ya'll see the movie faring against JL since they're only two weeks apart?
How do ya'll see the movie faring against JL since they're only two weeks apart?
I don't know. But the way Marvel is spinning it...is that it's Civil War 2. Pretty much continuing from Cap 3 CW. So It would have Cap, Ironman and Panther. I think it could do well.
I need to find the quotes, but I'm being lazy.

I don't think so. They will continue on. A shift in casting may be in the cards. I cant see them just stopping.
-
How do ya'll see the movie faring against JL since they're only two weeks apart?
The thing is its first so people will go to see it. That third week will probably go to JL.

Really? Man I dont want any guest appearances so soon. But it still can be good..

DC movies have been subpar with the exception of the dark knight trilogy in like twenty years. The Xfactor is how ridiculously strong the. batman brand how potentially strong wonder woman will be.
-
Doras... We need more Doras!
Make it happen Hudlin... Love your smile! ;)
-
I for one would be perfectly happy with Hudlin directing. I have my criticisms of his run (mainly, I thought his dialogue was often too on the nose and lacked the subtlety of Priest's run, though Hudlin still has a lot of subtext). But say what you want, that man can tell a story. I couldn't tell you who handled the layouts on the page, but Hudlin has a good feel on pacing, character, and buildup. Honestly, get a good script and Hudlin in the director's chair, and I think you'll end up with a solid flick. And if they can snag Lupita for either Shuri or T'Challa's love interest, well... I mean, I was already going to see it four times in it's opening weekend.
As far as Yost, I'm not sure how he'll do in features. He and the Markus/McFeely duo were the credited writers on Thor: The Dark World, and I'm not sure where that script went wrong, but Markus & McFeely have the two Cap films under their belt, so I'd be willing to let them take a shot at the script.

I don't recall reading that at all in terms of it being a continuation of Civil War. I mean, I'm assuming it will have someone guest-spot since Marvel likes cross-pollinating and JL will come out two weeks after it, but I hope it isn't anything more than a glorified cameo. Black Panther needs to stand on his own. In terms of the continuing Civil War, I'm not sure how that would work. I mean, obviously, there can be fallout, but between Captain America: Civil War and Black Panther, there will be Doctor Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, and Thor: Ragnarok, so I'd doubt they'd leave too much hanging between that.

And keep Ultimate "Mute" Black Panther Jeph Loeb off the movie set please...
Chadwick Boseman: "I came here for rehearsal but my script is all blank... Is this some type of joke?"
Chris Evans: "Dammit Stark I will not register for the Super Hero Act!"
Downey Jr: "Sign this registration Steve or I will plasma blast you back to the 1940's!"
Chadwick Boseman: "So wait it says here I have to grimace and look pouty behind a mask... You mean I don't say ish at all???"
Josh Whedon: "CUT! Chad we need you to fade into the back, cross your arms and look concerned as you glance back and forth at the main characters but don't say a single word!"
Chadwick Boseman: "Behind a mask? I am a thespian I need motivation..."
Josh Whedon: "There you go talking again!"
Jeph Loeb: "I finished some more rewrites on the script!"
Chadwick Boseman: "WTF!!! You wrote me getting jobbed by street level punks not once but twice without uttering a single word???"
Jeph Loeb: "Actually three times but who's counting right!"
Dear Hudlin,
Get some of your biggest East Boogie goons to roam the set for possible Loeb sightings and let them handle that on the low!
Chadwick needs more lines especially after you kill off Djimon/T'chaka in what should be a very sad and tender moment to connect to the audience!
How do ya'll see the movie faring against JL since they're only two weeks apart?
It could do well, it has lead time and will be part of a long narrative that people will be familiar with and into
Me personally I don't care as I have no plans to see the Justice League movie
Now excuse me while I head back out this bar and join the rest of the city celebrating tonight's World Series win, trying to celebrate and keep things safe

So, how about this for a cast?
T'Challa: Chadwick Boseman
T'Chaka: Keith David
Shuri: Lupita Nyong'o
Ulysses Klaw: Andy Serkis
M'Baku the Man-Ape: Kevin Grievoux
Moses Magnum: Morris Chestnut
-
We been over this no frakking Man Ape, Just go with something like M'Baku or M'Baku, Lord of the White Gorilla Clan.

What is Victor Freeman's favorite rapper LL Cool J talking about here...
http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Cool-J-Joining-Marvel-Cinematic-Universe-67947.html
Killmonger perhaps because Luke Cage is going to Netflix... Shouldn't he have to have a cage match with Raw Leiba for rights to that role!
Ever since he beat a burglar up in his home I sensed he would end up somewhere in a super hero flick... Plus he's nice too! :D
http://youtu.be/BrEa7lKsvO4
It would be a better idea if LL played Luke Cage as depicted in Hudlin's Black Panther Three The Hard Way story arc and throw Wesley Snipes back in the mix for a Blade cameo now that Marvel has the rights to Blade back in-house... Who would play Voodoo I have no idea!
It would be better to jumpstart Luke Cage within Black Panther's world first before any solo activity considering the street level origins of "Sweet Christmas" compared to a technologically advanced society like Wakanda!
