How are those books doing sales wise, though? Are they still around?
I think what Marvel will do is hope that the new audience will jump into the trades, and from there enter the floppy world either at comic shops or digital. A lot of folks will likely jump start from the Coates run and then go backwards.
I can see Coates bringing back a lot of characters, if only because they were in the movie (that might be more of an editorial move though). He already brought back QDJ and Kasper. Nakia and Okoye can def come back. Klaw is coming back already, so Killmonger, M'Baku, W'Kabi and Zuri can make a comeback as well.
Come on guys. Just enjoy Coates run.
Can't force people to enjoy something they don't.
That would be like us telling Storm fans to enjoy her portrayal in Extraordinary X-Men. Sure, some people liked her portrayal in that book, but a lot didn't, and for good reasons.

I think they'll have another book from the BP franchise, but I don't think it'll be a solo book. Given how large the BP supporting cast is gettong, I think they're setting up another spin off attempt.

A team book with T'Challa and the supporting cast?
A team book with T'Challa and the supporting cast?
Something like that. I think all T'Challas other teams (Ultimates and Crew) are getting cancelled, so that potentially would fill the void.

Should such a book occur, who should be on the team? and who should write it?
For writer, I'd give Rembert Browne another shot. His Kasper issue is the best issue of the Coatesverse, imho.
David Liss would be another good writer for such a book.
As for the team, I would add as many characters from the movie plus some comic folks:
-T'Challa
-Shuri
-Okoye
-Kasper
-Reformed Nakia (?)
-Vibraxas / Eden
w/ cameos from other supportings characters from the BP-verse.
Sidenote: imho such a book should occur later on, once the main book stabilizes. But Marvel loves a quick buck, so such a team book could def happen.

I imagine if they put out a second BP franchise title, they'll do it around the movie.
-
We'll manage. The outcomes are pretty clear at this point, as far as the comic book is concerned:
-Coates doesn't improve and the book more or less stays at is, until he leaves. If so, it is what it is.
-Coates somehow improves. If so, better late than never and a positive outcome for everyone.
Either way, the MCU solo film is coming (as well as sequels and appearances in other MCU films) and a lot of new BP stuff in other mediums that can keep old and new fans entertained. As for the comics, safe to say it will always be in shelves, regardless of who writes it, how good the book is, or how much it sells.
if they do again try for spin offs I hope this time someone has the idea of seeking writers outside of Coates inner circle and move away from what he's doing

All the way or blending it with the comics?
Makes sense though since a lot of folks will expect the comics to reflect the movie. Has Marvel done something like this with another franchise?

Cap, Thor, Spidey, Strange, Guardians
Pretty much everyone who has a movie has had some of the film elepblend into their comic version and it's obvious that for BP a lot of his film elements are from Priest so hopefully for the comic version we see that come back into play along with Hudlin and or Liss because Coates version has none of that in the character named Special Guest Panther

Who knows maybe they will. I feel like that's what BP WOW and Bp&C were supposed to be but they failed miserably.. Which was not BP that was the issue but the writer's in question and the fact he wasn't even IN the spin offs.. but I also feel like Marvel won't see it that way..

I caught a glimpse at the new BP poster and it's beautiful. T'Challa standing on top of a panther statue

At one point I think every memeet of the Guardians had their own book, so I don't think marvel is a stranger to this approach.

Sorcerers Supreme is at 15K. However that book made it CLEAR it was about Strange and OTHERS. Unlike the last two BP spinoffs.
The trade is in the lower 2000s on Amazon.
The Last Days of Magic-the trade was top 50 last month and is top 200 for Marvel on amazon.
Both books outlasted Bp's spinoffs.
A team book with T'Challa and the supporting cast?
No. You can do one where you showcase the others and be HONEST that it's about them. Like we saw with Gotham Central-a book under Batman but was about everyone else. It's how we got Montoya until DC trashed her.
Come on guys. Just enjoy Coates run. Other people love his run. And it's not like this is BP's first time to have an ongoing solo.
And we all know Coates will not forever write the BP book. So just chill.
Where were you when X-Men fans gave HELL to Inhuman fans? We knew that story wasn't going to last forever but who embarrassed themselves with their behavior?
I can not enjoy a run where the LEAD is written badly in a book.
Especially when that behavior would NOT be welcomed anywhere else.

I'm still hoping those panther statues are actually giant robot panthets. Wakanda has been attacked my giant monsters at least twice. Conventional comic book logic dictates giant robots are the best defense against giant monsters.

That would be cool to see but I think they should save that for a sequel. Putting giant panther robots in the first movie would be blowing their load way too early.

Yeah I'm not really expecting it in the first movie. Infinity War maybe.

I don't think Marvel truly meant the extra Doc series to be long lasting. I think it's like you said, "Here's material for trades".

Well, the premise behind WoW actually made prefect sense. BP is similar to characters like Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman, in that his backstory and mythos is so rich, you can have an ongoing that just explores his world and support cast or focuses on exciting flashback adventures.
The problem with the title we got was really the execution.

Nevermind the extra Doc series, I wonder if marvel was even expecting the main solo book to so well enough to stick around.

I think with WoW Marvel took the wrong lesson. Coates BP debuted with big numbers so they thought, "Let's get another black intellectual essayist to do the spin off!" But Roxanne was even more ill-suited for cape comics than Coates.

Checked eBay and most of these posters are going for kinda ok prices as I've seen that first going for highest at $100
Also saw that some are selling a plushie based on Skottie Young's baby variant, not sure if it's a official item

Had that series been the place to send all of the stuff Coates would rather write about while the main series actually stars T'Challa it may have lasted longer as having two titles on the stands that don't feature T'Challa literally cannibalizes the audience who're into that
We'll manage.
Why should long term Black Panther enthusiasts who actually give a damn about the mythos, have to "manage" in the face of Coates continued dimishment of T'Challa's character and Wakanda as an intellectual concept?
Is settling for milquetoast the new real now?
-
So I'm supposed to just sit down, shut up, and just "enjoy" T'Challa being a supporting character in his own damn book?
I'm supposed to just "enjoy" Coates using T'Challa's name in order to try (and fail) to do stealth solos for other characters?
I'm supposed to just "enjoy" Coates taking a massive dump on the mythos?
I'm supposed to just "enjoy" supporting characters taking over the book?
I'm supposed to just "enjoy" T'Challa being a whiny milquetoast bitch who is damn near useless while the supporting characters have to hold his damn hand and do all the work instead being the badass warrior king he's supposed to be?
Yeah no thanks. I am not about to stand by and just stay silent while Coates just ruins one of my favorite superheroes. I know crap when I see it and I am gonna call it for what it is.
The sad thing in all of this is there are actually some amongst us advocating that we just bear with Coates rubbish for time being.
I find that puzzling.

Speaking for me I've decided to spend my money on filling the gaps in my single issues of Priest and Hudlin's runs as well as buying merch relating to the movie and have nothing to do with this current run
And also saying why I don't like this current run, while I don't think Realdeal was talking about settling maybe they meant what I just said?

Going by the line up seen at D23 and SDCC and what's been leaked this might be the season 1 line up for MVCI

Don't forget the market that has proven time and time again how they are only willing to support spin off series from a handful of characters.
If quality was the sole dictator for success then Eisner nominated Deathstroke by Priest would be a top 40 book and not barely making it in the 100-110 range.

I called it way back how Priest would be the best thing to happen to Deathstroke and only Priest fans would buy it and folks swore up and down that it would be the reverse and Deathstroke would sit at the top 5 because people love Deathstroke

It will take place after the events of Avengers: Secret War which will leave the Avengers team forever changed.
