I for the LIFE of me can't understand why people want a T'Challa/Zenzi romance when she is DIRECTLY responsible for T'Challa having to fight and kill fellow Wakandans. She may be able to be (slightly) redeemed, but a love interest? That would be terrible!
-
Zanda has no powers or anything like that, as a love interest she doesn't bring anything exciting to the table.
She is closer to comedy relief than a Catwoman/Dragon Lady type.
That doesn't change what I said and I personally find her interesting

Eh, Swan showed up, had 3 Wakandan youth (with names!) Killed and tgen blew up a planet...

Zenzi a saint compared to that lol

I agree with that. I'd also say the trope of the female villain who has a change of heart to help the male protagonist is overdone, so I hope she doesn't turn. Maybe not want to go as far as Tetu, but that's different. Certainly, a romantic interest is too far.
I don't like how its being said that the territory there is why Wakanda is so advance and of Niganda kept it they would be where Wakanda is now. I'm only joking (partially) I just like her character and feel there have been several missed opportunities for her and T'Challa to interact. I see her more as maybe a tentative ally. Swan was the most kill happy person in the book til Thanos showed up.

I could see it developing into tentative political allies. You see it all the time, after all; Obama talked about what a poor choice Hillary Clinton would be as POTUS back when he ran against her for the Democratic nomination, then campaigned for her during this last election. Bernie Sanders just said via social media that he's willing to work with Trump for better jobs and a stronger economy (though he'll still fight against racism/sexism/usual Trump things).
If T'Challa is able to overcome the political disputes the book revolves around, then gaining Zeni as a converted ally would be a pretty big win and symbolize that victory.

I tend to think the opposite. I think Wakanda needs a strong and powerful king and queen. A powerful queen/love interest for T'Challa would bring a lot more to the table in helping to protect Wakanda than Monica Lynn or some other non-powered woman would.
-
I tend to think that's perfectly valid if we were setting up a real royal marriage for a real county. I think it makes less sense in a work of fiction. A superpowered wife of the King creates a narrative complexity where she has to be in the story (defending Wakanda, as you said). People complain that T'Challa isn't in the book enough as is. A superpowered Queen cuts into that (and it absolutely cut into it with Storm where they seemed to try and write her out when possible).

I think a fitting Queen needs a distinctive personality and strength of character more than anything.
Not that I think this will happen, but I wouldn't want Marvel to marry BP with say Frenzy or Thundra just cuz they're super strong and can fight

I wouldn't go quite that far cuz a clever writer can make it work. I just don't want it to be "T'Challa should hook up with Misty Knight and they should give her flame powers because fire would be handy in a fight scene."

Storm had to be written out at time because of x writers hating like it's their job. If Hudlin had full support and could do whatever, then Storm would of had more to do. But since she was a different franchise character it's harder to use her. An in franchise character can be easily moved to where they need to be without much issue.
. T'Challa doesn't need a Monica Lynn Type. it makes po plenty of sense for his queen to be fully capable of handling business

Haha in truth, i just think Zenzi is a refreshing addition. Actual powers, an actual unique look, and a compelling enough background with what we've seen so far. I honestly feel her ultimate purpose is to be on the wrong end of some Shuri kung fu but i prefer that they still push her to be a complex character, even if she remains on the villainy end.
Unless i'm mistaken, it seems like her 10 pager was just a one time thing/bonus, and that the rest of this arc/series is going to just be the Doras. I think that's a bad idea and they jumped the gun with this WoW stuff. I think a year from now, if they were to build up Zenzi and maybe another female villain, like if they dusted Nakia off the shelf for MCU reasons, then maybe they could've done a Harley/Poison Ivy type teamup book with Zenzi/Nakia, as the BP:WoW series. That's a dynamic duo i'd be more interested to read about.

The Monster Chick ended up cheating on Deadpool.
With a Werewolf.
Don't know what happened after that.
But, yeah nobody really bothers to create a love interest anymore because it is kind of a waste of effort.
Unless it's the classic civilian love interest that the character is associated with (like Steve Trevor or Mary Jane) or its a known character with powers (or fighter type),the character won't stick because generally speaking nobody(not editors or subsequent writers) will care enough to make them stick.
And the general audience won't care either. For all the effort that Slott put into Carlie Cooper over in the Spider books, nobody gave a damn(except the peeps that wanted her to go away) and nobody mentions her now. Not even to say that they still hate her.
Batman's an interesting exception because not even the Bat-fans care about Vicki Vale and they never did. It's either Catwoman or Talia (or maybe Wonder Woman) or its "Don't bother us with a L.I...who's Bats beating on this month?"
So there's no point in any Writer creating civilian Joe or Jane Cutie for any character when they know that Cutie is gonna
go straight to limbo after they leave the book.
Now, hook that character with another super or fighter (as long as it isn't a active part of another franchise) and at least that character is gonna show up again one way or another.

I think the main storyline might benefit from having more room to breathe (while I don't think it was particularly well-written, I thought the bigger flaw was that it had to hit everything directly on the nose and then move on because it didn't have time to do anything else). That being said, I'd prefer two stories per issue. It's called World of Wakanda for a reason. Let's explore Wakanda. Alternatively, I had originally assumed it would follow both the Doras and Zenzi, just not as separate stories. I'd be OK with that. But I think everyone agrees the Dora Milaje story was the weaker of the two stories.

Except Gay didn't explore Wakanda.
Nothing she showed about the order of the Dora Milaje was, to be frank, worth a shit at all. It was the most basic, bare bones look at the order as you could get.
- woman come
- woman are trained
- if you aren't good enough, you may be kicked out
- there is a ceremony
- you get put somewhere
I mean... DAMN... that is it? Why not hire a real fiction writer who could breath life into it?
Gay went to the creative side of her brain and found Saved by the Bell + generic American basic training from movies.
I don't buy the fact that Gay didn't have time. It was Gay (and maybe Coates? Ok mostly likely Coates as Gay doesn't read comics) choice to go alllllllllll the way back to AvX to start this story. This pathetically amateur and cliched story. You could have easily at the very latest started mid Hickman run, already have Ayo and Aneka trained (because what they showed of the training was so casual and thin it was useless anyway) and start sowing the seeds of romance and T'challa's betrayal around then.
I don't think I could handle more pages of that dribble.
Hell, in the hallway scene again. Ayo stands over the top of her and gives her a dominating look while Aneka looks boredline frightened, Ayo traps Aneka against the wall, grabs her face close and tells her "im better than you ever were"
I fully expected Ayo to just grab Aneka by the....
Replace the same scene with a dude instead of Ayo...

It would be great if it were two stories but the next two solicitations seem to talk only about the Doras and this first issue the Zenzi part seemed to be promoted as just a bonus story. It's why if WoW amounts to just a female buddy-cop on-going... idk, i think it was too soon. I think there were better pairings if they were willing to wait/cultivate or i think they should've took more time ironing out the story or finding a better writer to tell the story.

I'll say this about the book. I definitely appreciated the Story and the series in general. I think it definitely makes you appreciate Ayo and Aneka as characters in the main book. I do agree that the evolution of their Romance happened entirely too fast. There is no way that it should have taken place in one book. I was surprised Coates let that slip as Roxanne's editor, because generally his writing style has had more complexity and build up too it than that. I would have preferred this book ended with Ayo and Aneka bitterly hating each other, to give further issues a chance to show how they went from mortal enemies to where they are in the current BP run. I think a lot of readers would have appreciated that as well. I did like the introduction of other Dora Miljae as well, such as Mistress Zola and Folami. I would be interested in seeing Folami show up in the current BP run as a well trained spy for the Midnight Angels, or as a constant thorn in Ayo and Aneka's side. Either way, a character that sneaky definitely has potential. I think WOW should do what it's been trying to do and that's show the characters in their lowest common form, and then have them Re-Appear in Coates run as completely evolved characters, that way the reader is intrigued and left wondering damn how did they go from point A to point G .
With that being said, Zenzi's story was knocked out of the park. I agree Zenzi definitely has that "It" factor. Even if she doesn't become T'challa's love interest I would love to see her as a villain or future Wakandan Ally. Overall though i'm definitely excited for the book and I am looking forward to more issues.
And just another side note that's kind of been urging me. Coates says Aneka was in the book before his run, thats not really true, whether he knows it or not, his he created a new character because his Aneka is different from Mayberry's Aneka. In Mayberry's Run "Mistress Aneka" was an older woman who was in charge of the Dora Miljae. Fast forward to Gay's book Zola is now the mistress of the Dora Miljae for some reason. I see those two Aneka's as just having the same name but theres no way they are the same person.

Yea for some reason i really like Zenzi as a character and im bummed if there wont be more exploration for her which makes sense because of how it ended. One of the few Things Coates got right i guess. But i feel she should have more interaction with T'Challa, especially given her story in BP:WOW (seriously Yona did a fantastic job in comparison to Gay and the only flaw was the limited pages so she had to rush Zenzi's story) Like it the roles were switched and she was given as many pages to tell her story instead of Gays "Disney's Wakanda High" then she could of really fleshed out Zenzi as a character and given us more reason as to why she was so disgruntled with Wakanda. Like Marvel Really missed an opportunity here by giving gay so much panel time for.... Nothing at all. But yes a Zenzi/Nakia team up could be pretty cool, Though honestly in terms of a humor and fun factor, I think Zenzi would have to be pair with QDJ since she is comic relief and Nakie is serious.. and Crazy lol

The whole thing is clearly an experiment.
Will Ms. Gay's readership/following pick this up?
And since she's a novelist, Marvel is probably going to have to wait for the trade sales to know if it even worked.
Since non-comics peeps aren't ever gonna walk into comics stores to buy single issues of anything.
Give Marvel credit for finally figuring that out, even if it took them 30 years to do so.
The downside of that is that they kind of have to give this book at least a year even if it sells horribly in the LCS because this
is all about the Barnes and Nobles sales and what not.
