Isn't Adam like 70...
Yeah, and Monica is in her 30's.
That age gap is NOTHING compared the when Wolverine and Steve Rogers date women. Hell Steve has been hooked up with the niece of a woman he used to date during the War.
That's disappointing I always thought he'd make a cool villain for Black Panther. Hunter vs. Hunter type thing.
Sadly, the closest that you can get is the Liss run, BP: The Worlds Most Underachieving Man. They manage to team up and beat some no name scientist with the help of Storm. Not like BP couldnt have used a nice win against a second tier Spidey villian.

Logan and Steve don't look their actual age when there dating younger women.
Adam and Monica would be along the lines of Magneto and Rogue weird..

That's disappointing I'd like to see him start bugging Panther in the comics I think just by character themes he'd be a cool addition to T'Challa and his mythos.
I'd like to see some of Panther's villains get reinvented as well.

84 to be exact. I don't think age is an issue when it comes to adult heroes

Well, I've made up my mind. When volume 3 comes out, I'm going to pick up all 3 Priest volumes.
Was The Crew ever collected?

No but it will in the final Priest collection vol. 4
Dope cover, but why they got King T'Chaka looking like grandpapi?
Might just be trying to give him that "regal" look, growing up I know that was how we looked at some of the older grown guys who would school us youngsters in this thing called life. In seeing Sanford Greene talk about his youth I'm inclined to believe that was the route he went with for this cover
Most def.
A lot of the new (and old) readers, including a lot of those following Coates, will probably order the digital versions of the issues as well as the tpb. I doubt they will go to the comic book shops.

It might actually do well in LCS too because Marvel is giving retailers incentives to buy the series.
I get mine shipped to me and I'm debating on hitting up the lcs to get the variants

Other than the Gray temples Adam doesn't look his age either. In terms of appearance Adam looks like a man in his early to late 40's.
It's easy, now, to forget the fact that, back then, he'd be RIGHT. T'Challa was far from A-list in those days. He hadn't had an ongoing since the late 70's, and even the McGregor minis had stopped almost 8 years prior. Priest fully expected to be canceled after a year, tops.
Was Ross part of the book's eventual success? Impossible to say whether the number of readers who found his antics amusing outnumbered those who felt he hogged the spotlight. But it was the creative choice Priest made, and it can be argued that it worked.
Coates is in a different place. he's not revitalizing a character who had faded into obscurity. He's penning a character who is a major part of the MCU moving forward, with a sizable (and, looking at this thread, quite vociferous ;) ) audience. His choices may very well need to be different.
While there is truth to what you say, Priest always points out that Hudlin's work sold better than his did. That's one big difference between the two. Priest was worried the book wouldn't be popular without a white surrogate character for the white audience. Hudlin's book was unapologetically about Black Panther. Now maybe its success was due to Priest. Who knows?
He had faith in his work, he just didn't have faith in the consumers at the time. His decision to use Ross was informed by past experiences he had being a black writers writing black characters. To this day segments of fandom are outright hostile to black characters when written by black writers. Priest knew that there were some readers who wouldn't have given his book a chance without Ross in it.
Well, that's what I mean. He didn't have faith that they would without Ross in it. Obviously, we don't live in a counterfactual world where Ross wasn't the main character for the first third of his run so we don't know how it would have done without him. Priest assumed he was necessary. My position is the story is so good without him that it isn't necessarily the case.
Has he? I really haven't seen anything in Ultimates so far that suggests so.
The idea kind of came from the Hudlin run

Ugh, I loath that scene for several reasons.
First and foremost, Monica's had an excellent understanding of her powers almost since day 1. Anyone remember how she went to the moon during the Siege of the Mansion? Zemo was beside himself with worry, trying to figure out how to deal with her.
Second, what's her amazing display of power in this plotline? Using sunlight against vampires.
Yeah, whole lotta imagination there...

As much as I like Spectrum, I'm not a fan of shipping her and T'Challa. I'm not all that into her and Adam but conceptually that match is a better fit.
I think Monica is a character who's interesting enuff to warrant her own solo comic/movie/show ( I'm not saving it'd do great in sales, but you could build a solo around her). She's a very different character whose adventures should take a very different direction. In my mind they're not all that compatable
-
Spectrum might get a solo film in Phase 8.
Might.
If it's just the movies we're talking about I'd rather Monica get her own movie tbh.
A black woman hasn't had so much as a speaking role in the MCU as of yet and the only Black Woman in any superhero films to date have been Storm and Catwoman.
If you hope for Monica to have a movie, then what better time is there to introduce her to the audience than in the BP movie?
T'Challa will have a lot of hype following him after Civil War. Assuming the solo film receives critical acclaim, all the characters in the film will get a tremendous boost in popularity. Monica can be one of those characters.
As for black women not being in the MCU, the BP solo in theory should make up for it and then some.
A lot is riding on this movie.
I like Monica Lynne "old school" style, when Damsel's in distresses who were mostly around to be saved and black men who proudly referred to themselves as Apes was an acceptable form of storytelling, but in this new era, and ESPECIALLY within the MCU, where we have Pepper Potts donning armor and rescuing Tony, Lady Sif fighting besides Thor, and Black Widow kicking all kinds of ass, a warrior King raised around highly intelligent, fierce, and determined female soldiers falling in love with....an R&B singer just doesn't cut it
Indeed. T'Challa is surrounded by women who are highly-trained warriors on an almost daily basis. Monica Lynne, as is, will stick out like a sore thumb, and not necessarily in a good way.
She could definitely have her own movie. My idea for Spectrum as a love interest isn't dependent upon her being T'Challa's "Damsel". Quite the opposite actually, I'd definitely want her to branch out on her own, firstly as a partner to Captain Marvel ala The Falcon/War Machine. Then more a role in a theoretical Black Panther 2 and hopefully her OWN movie in Phase 4. She would essentially serve as the MCU's Storm, not tied to Panther but an integral part of his adventures. In this manner we get a black power couple and we ALSO get two independent black heroes. It's a win-win
Good idea.
