Interesting conversation I'm seeing here between Coates BP and the movie interpretation of him. I can see how those who don't like Coates BP could make the same arguments for the movie. I actually like both representations so I have no complaints on that regard. My only criticism I have of the movie is that some of the fight scenes were hard to follow and some of the cgi was a bit too animated looking for a Disney movie. Other than that I thought it was a very well done movie.

Except while MCU T’Challa does receive a lot of assistance from his supporting cast, the movie still makes it clear that he’s competent and capable enough to hold his own. Coates’ T’Challa on the other hand comes off as a complete buffoon that constantly needs his hand held by his supporting cast.

Its a McGregor/Priest/Gillis hybrid story with a Hudlin Wakanda. I felt BP himself was a McGregor/Hudlin mix. I include Hudlin because he did Tchalla with a lighter feeling while the others do more stoic.

I want a Kevin Cole/Kasper comic.
Or Mini. I'll take anything at this point to rid the taste of Coates BP.

He has one issue in World of Wakanda #6. It was really good. Browne hinted at more, but I dont think it worked out.
How do you guys feel about people gravitating towards Killmonger, Okoye, M'Baku, Shuri over T'Challa? Do you guys think Coogler and Cole messed up T'Challa's portrayal in the film considering some people seem him as one of the weakest links?
I believe it is a weakness in the storytelling of the film. I loved the movie but T'Challa is not given much agency in the film. He mostly reacts to everything around him. So many times others, from Killmonger, Shuri and Okoye, stole the scene from T'Challa. From a story telling point of view, what does T'Challa want in the film? To be King? To confront T'Chaka of a past wrong? to be King again? T'Challa does not push the narrative. Also we do not see the thing that makes T'Challa so dangerous: His mind. We do not see the calculating character. Why is T'Challa Black Panther? In the film we it just seems to be due to birthright as he is the oldest child of T'Chaka. We all know he had to truly earn it. That the Panther God bestowed it upon him. T'Challa is not given much of an origin as compared to Killmonger. That in my opinion is the weakness of the story but I loved the movie. I just want to see more characterizes of T'Challa that I have grown to appreciate in the next film.

I think alot of King T'Challa detractors aren't giving him credit for displaying amazing acting skills. He had to play off alot of different characters in this movie and he put them over (wrestling term).
Great job King T'Challa for letting your subjects feel important.

MCU BP is nothing like Coates' version.
MCU BP was all about Afro-Futurism and taking the next step. He is not hesitant and his inner conflicts don't weigh him down.
Shuri was genius and unlike her Griot counterpart in the books.

Anyone ask the kids what they think? Who their favorite was? I know I enjoyed T'Challa and his role. But it's the kids that will carry the franchise into the future. I think if Stars Wars from when I was a kid. Everybody argued over who was the best or their favorite. Probably one of the things that gave the franchise legs. If the kids are buzzing about the movie then all is good.

They probably will.
I would say view this film as the seed planter for possible spin off material-be it movie or comic or tv show like how Star Trek went from one tv show to 12 movies and 7 tv shows and 100+ comics.
Take Okoye-you could do a movie (direct to dvd or otherwise) to explain those Doras. You could show how women slated to be the lovers of the king became the defenders and bodyguards of Wakanda. PURE black female EMPOWERMENT.
Shuri could show up a world of Wakanda while the King is out of the kingdom. Even show that school that Bruno from Ms marvel went to with Panther's cousin.
Kilmonger-how does a member of Wakanda grow up in the USA.
Wakanda-how big is that spy network? How big is their influence? Could say one of the scientist from Wakanda helped build the rocket ship that the Fantastic Four used? Could Wakanda funds be the reason Riri Williams got a full ride to MIT? What if Miles's school had Wakandans on the school board?
You could toss out movies and tv shows out that one Panther movie. I would say Disney is thinking FRANCHISE if NOT they better be.
And in other news-Sports Radio 1310 THe Ticket of Dallas and Studio Movie Grill with take 50 black kids and their mentors to see Black Panther this Saturday.
One of the shows on the Ticket (Hardline) saw the movie and loved it and said they HAD to to do something to make sure kids saw it and wanted to fund a way to get kids to see it for free. one of the managers of Studio Movie Grill offered his place to them and Reverend Parish (whose daughter was in the Summer Olympics I think 96-2000s) -who was looking to do a project like take kids to see the movie got onboard.
