Gee I thought she moved on to Wolverine's bed? Rather quickly after getting shown the door.
His burden should be his kingdom-that should have been in perfect shape after Secret Wars. But someone's pets had to screw that up and toss out a narrative that wold never be allowed under other superior writers.
His primary burden IS his kingdom... that's why he didn't really make his play for Storm until after the Wakandan revolution stabilized.
But I think that's a big part of why he's growing to resent his role as king... because he needs to sacrifice what he wants for what he perceives to be the greater good for his kingdom. And in this case, that meant sacrificing his marriage to the woman he loves. Is it any wonder why he's not happy with the job? Anyone would feel that way if they had to sacrifice that much. But to his credit, he did what he felt he had to do. But sacrifices like that are why he's got a story worth telling.

T'Challa was clearly trying to shift the blame off of him right from the start with the high priest line.
It didn't quite work.. but I guess it was worth a shot.
I thought him being able to see what happened to the kidnapped character was cool, as well as him being able to move fast/teleport before that one guy could attack him were pretty nice feats. I personally thought he had great showings this issue for those who have been upset about him not doing anything.
In regards to Storm, Tchalla ended their relationship and had the marriage annulled. How does one expect someone scorned in a relationship to behave? Should she not try to move forward with her life after the love of her life crushed and broke her heart? The burden is on him to do the work if he wants them to work considering he ended it. Storm, by the way, while Tchalla was telling Ramonda how important she will remain to him and Wakanda, was risking her life trying to save the Wakandan people from a storm being generated all across Wakanda by a new god.
I wouldn't be surprised if this BP has a different meaning in that era than the BP of the current one. He could be some personification of Bast or maybe someone who's mastered KoD powers. I'm leaning toward the latter tbh

Ummm. I plead the 5th, wait I remember... it was Stormbot lol.
No in all seriousness, it was Storm who threw the ring down but to that horrible story, I think we can acknowledge that everything that was written in IvX was crap. Up until the OOC moments that occurred during IvX, Ororo was loving and supportive to Tchalla as a wife should be.

I dunno about Square Enix.....
You can go many routes with a BP game. Straight up action, stealth elements, beat em up, whatever.
If Tecmo Koei made a "Warriors" game with comic characters, I'd for sure use BP as my main.

I think he almost needs to be a god to qualify to be on this team, because quite honestly I believe it's the most overpowered super hero team in comic history. It's got a Skyfather and a couple cosmic beings on it. A martial artist, even one with enhanced stats sort of seems underpowered.

That's why I'm thinking he's not a typical Black Panther and probably has powers and abilities that put him at or near godhood. KoD is my preferred powerset but I'm sure whatever this guy has it's gonna be up to par with these other godlike-people.

Hey back Butterflykyss, I agree with you wholeheartedly that prior to AvX, Ororo was indeed, the perfect counterpart to T'Challa.
Unfortunately, from AvX onwards, she's written as being nothing more than a narrative millstone around T'Challa's neck.

KoD powers only work because of the past panthers not sure how the first or near the first BP could use it?

Maybe Bast before he becomes a god. In Celtic and Norse mythology, don't the gods originally start out as human?
-
Maybe Bast before he becomes a god. In Celtic and Norse mythology, don't the gods originally start out as human?
No, they start as gods. In fact, in most mythologies from around the world, the gods we know are the children of what may have been that cultures first gods. I could go on, but there are whole sets of books written on this very subject. ( And I'm such a dork I've read more than I care to share). But I will say myths sprouted from the seeds of the stories our ancestors told around the first fires. They are the foundations of any and all structures that have to do with narrative of any sort, including, gasp, comic books.
I think Coates (chokes) went to bed early and skipped all the juicy fireside chats.:p
On the flip side though, look at Thor. He's got a movie around the corner and poor Odinson is without his hammer, without his name, without his arm, and is essentially a guest star in the Thor title.
I'm not saying movie synergy isn't a real thing... but I don't believe it's the controling narrative for the characters in the comics.
I'll certainly agree that sales is the ultimate barameter of how a book is doing. If his book falls below whatever cancellation level marvel decides is appropriate, then they'll likely do consider some sort of creative change. Coates does well in trade form and online sales, so that'll likely factor into things as well.
I just don't agree that editorial will pull the plug because of any sense of him not being written a certain way. Coates writes his scripts months in advance, and it's approved by editorial, so we can presume they at least are fine with it. But sales is a different matter. Regardless of whether editorial likes it or not, if a book doesn't sell the level they feel acceptable chances likely will need to be made.

Bast isn't a he...Bast is a she.
And no they don't usually start out as humans....in some mythologies humans can ascend to godhood I suppose or at least demigods can for those mythologies with demigods.

In the current run it's hinted that Bast and co are the children of elder gods and Bast is often shown as a she.
The only thing I can think of is this guy isn't a BP as we know them but probably a prototype of some kind

Gods of Heliopolis for Marvel. Bast second from left depicted in male from. Pretty sure he can be either when she chooses. Also note Moonnights god is on far left.

Random but I just realized something even though Coates gave it away on the last page. That time in Black Panther #4 where Tehtu made it rain, was actually a hint that he was connected to the Orisha. Because if you look at the ground, it's the same symbol that's been appearing in the book since season 2 started. It's possible that once the Orisha return to fully to Wakanda, Tehtu could be getting a major upgrade in powers.

I interpreted it as he is connected to this new god. Would be funny if this was all just Stane tech and Faustus mental manipulation.

Sweet. I always thought that if under an imaginative writers pen, Tetu could pretty much be an evil avatar.

In marvel, most human mages do essentially draw power from something else. Be it magical talismans or other dimensions or gods or demons or whatever, they usually get that power from an outside source. That's why in old school Dr. Strange he'd say some magical entities name at the beginning of most of his spells. Flames of Faltine or Crimson Bands of Cytorrak or whatever.
So it absolutely makes sense that Tetu would be drawing power from these new gods. In most cases human magicla characters are drawing their power from SOMETHING. And it makes sense for Coates to sort of connect everything. He said he's got a 5 year long plan, and you don't plan that far ahead without planting seeds.
The thing I liked about the addition of Tetu to T'Challa's rogues gallery is that he's potentially very powerful. Apart from Klaw, I think you can argue he's perhaps the most powerful at least on paper. He's not necessarily a physical threat one one one (most magic wielders aren't... that's why in RPG terms controllers tend to be behind the tanks), but with the right composition of characters he's a real threat.
Hopefully we'll see more of him down the line.
-
A five year plan? We're going to be stuck with Coates for five long years? Bast help us all.
A five year plan? We're going to be stuck with Coates for five long years? Bast help us all.
Not necessarily. Just because he has a 5 year run in mind doesn't mean marvel will give him 5 years.
That said, I personally think he'll get it but we'll see.

He's written so far only season 2 which is goin on now and as of now they're "ok" with it. They can now either start flexing editorial mandates or go with a new writer
