i know that from teh comics but are they going to introduce that to the MCU or just make them "vibranium" claws?
Really that will be the deciding factor. If the claws are made of the same substance as the shield, it shouldn't be able to cut through. But if it's anti-metal, obviously that's a different story.
I'm somewhat skeptical that the claws will cut it since I'm not sure they want Steve's shield having claw marks all over it from now on. Though perhaps that would leave an opening down the line for Thor to fix the shield by making it uru-infused like it is now in the comic.
-
Gotta admit all these new details about T'Challa being pro-accords, along with being younger, not as experienced, and "fiery" makes me a little worried that he may come off as somewhat less appealing to the general audience. That's something that they should be trying to steer away from because they are trying to sell people on a character that will have a solo in the future.
I think in the long run it'll make him more appealing, because the audience will be able to see him develop. It takes us on more of a character journey with him, and IMO it's stuff like that moreso than bad ass feats (thought hat's also important) which really allows an audience to connect with the character.
And it gives us comic fans something new, because it's something we've never really seen. T'Challa was introduced in the comics essentially as a finished product. We never got to see him really develop into the person he is now. So this is the MCU legitimately giving us something we've never gotten out of the comics really. So for use it's sort of a double bonus.

Or have Steve go to Wakanda and have his shield fixed ala EMH
I think that episode is one of my favorites because of the Hawkeye/T'challa interaction during it lol
I wonder who is going to be T'challa's "Hawkeye" during CW. MCU hawkeye isn't that brash.

The Webcomic Ennui Go actually had a character roleplaying as Black Panther lmfao.

I swear, if Ewing busts out Shadow Physics, I will follow him anywhere. i'll even go read the atrocious looking New Avengers book
I would even follow him to a Queen Divine Justice solo. I'd buy TWO copies
I wonder if those claws can really cut into Cap's shield or if that is just "cool promo art" stuff.
Because, so far, that shield has held up to, well, everything from bullets, mind gem blasts from Loki, tesseract blasts from hydra, chitauri weapons, and even Mjolnir so far.
I could of sworn that early in the interviews for the movie that the higher ups were saying that Cap and T'Challa would have a fight and T'Challa would scratch the shield with his claws and leave some nasty marks in it as a way to show the new audience that BP doesn't mess around. I think they will show it in the movie, which will also give him a nice feat of being the only person able to mess up the shield, but then of course it will need to be fixed again, which could be shown if BP sides with Steve for a time to fix it then go off and do his own deal again.

I really can't wait for that scene, it looks like its going to be a great read. And i hope everything in terms of continuity happens, Like when it starts going it would be amazing if Ewing added in the "Force push" effect to Vibranium when Coates and Stelfreeze showcase it in the new BP run, which shouldn't be out of the question since Coates dropped a hint that some of his allies from the Ultimate's are going to make an appearance in the story arc. So if Ewing and Coates use themes and elements form each others runs for BP it can turn into a awesome read on both parts, especially if they reference to each book.
And I agree i would read a QDJ Series, but thats just because she is a cool character all in all. I really hope she makes an appearance in the new BP with Shuri, and Okoye

Good to see that T'Chaka hasn't changed his stance. He and T'Challa will have to work it out the ol' fashion way.
Unless it's just a flashback of some kind, then nvm.

You know what i thought would be cool? I thought of this when he got scolded like a child and daddy took away the knowledge of the previous panthers, but as a way to gain that back, he has to commune with the dead and the previous Black Panthers essentially put him through a series of tests to have him prove his worth, and one of the final tests being that his dad suggests that the trial should be one of combat. Having T'Chaka known as the greatest BP of all time go against T'Challa and have them fight it out. I think that would be sweet

Since Shadow Physics in Doom War at least was essentially developed to come up with a means of teleporting I guess we can assume all the teleporting we've seen in Hickmans run was Shadow Physics. Though it would be nice if they called it by name, just for branding purposes.

Yeah, having T'Challa repain the damage as sort of a peace offering and perhaps sign of friendship would be a nice way to end the movie.
Though part of me still likes the idea of Caps shield at some point being infused with uru so that it becomes a more one of a kind unique item. Since it's just vibranium it's not quite as special as it is in the comics. Maybe Thanos can break the shield down the line and Thor can repair it.

Granted it would take forever to show i him go through all the Panther Trials, so the ones highlighted would be a trial by Bashenga, a trial by Azzuri and a trial by T'Chaka. I personally wouldn't quite buy the drama of T'Challa bothering to go through some sort of trial to regain the knowledge of the previous Panthers because to be quite honest they were completely useless. If I were him I'd actually be relieved I didn't have them looking over my shoulder scolding me.
That said, a trial between T'Chaka and T'Challa would be fun.

Lol yea, i mean there's a strong likelihood that T'Challa (along with Reed) will be somewhere between "catalyst to" and "directly responsible for" saving the multi/omni-verse and restoring the natural order back to all of existence...
So if T'Challa was anything less than an honorable, humble guy, he'd likely have Kanye's "Can't Tell Me Nothing" on his ear buds, drowning out anything Bast, T'Chaka or any 'ol panther spirit/egyptian god/skygod has to chastize him about regarding self-worth.

And how pray tell were the previous Black Panthers shown to be "completely useless" as you've stated?
Were there any panels depicting T'Challa consulting with any of the spectral Black Panthers, shown at any point during Hickman's three year long New Avengers gig?
As far as I'm aware, the only past Black Panther who conversed indepth with T'Challa was his father T'Chaka so I'm really not sure where you're getting this "previous Black Panthers were completely useless" business from?
It's probably best to stick to the facts as posted on panel as opposed to speculating or making things up to support an illogical and clearly illusory narrative.

We'll obviously have to wait and see how the previous Panthers feel about him. But assuming T'Challa does play a role in saving everything they in theory really shouldn't have a whole lot to complain about.
But obviously we'll have to wait and see.
For the record, I did honestly believe they had a legit complaint at the time. But in hindsight, I'm not sure that's really the case.

Yes, they do have a lot to be upset about. T'Challa chose a path to save his country and the world and at the 11th hour, knowing what was coming, he changes his mind and doomed his people.
Who's to say he, a fellow Black Panther, wouldn't do it again if a similar occasion occured?
EDIT: and for those who may say that he received a special task from Bast, he was about to fail that too. Namor, an enemy of Wakanda ironically enough, had to bail him out.

Honestly I do agree that they were probably right at the time.
I'm just saying if he ends up helping to save the universe anyways, and gets the job done, there's not really a whole lot to complain about IMO.
Again, if it's just more complaining on their part then I'm not sure I'd feel all that bad about not being able to commune with the previous BPs. He never needed them before he got the KOTD upgrade and frankly he didn't need them while he had them. It just doesn't strike me as that big of a net loss.

You can call it whatever you like, but their gripe is legit. One of their own let down his people and his world over some last minute morality crisis and had to be bailed out by an enemy of Wakanda. And a father had to witness all that first hand.
If Ewing decides to touch on that issue, it's a fair thing to do story wise. Personally, I hope it happens and I can't wait for the banter between father and son.

True... though if he had listend to the Panthers and killed Namor earlier then Namor wouldn't have been able to do that. So in a way T'Challa was right.
Again, I completely understand why they would be angry with him at the time... but I think the larger issues is that he got the job done. If he's able to do it without murdering billions of innocent people then for T'Challa at least, all the better.
SUcks a bit for Namor as he ended up the scape goat there, but hey... whatever gets the job done.

And what about it don't you buy? It actually makes alot of sense if you think about it. While he did what was right he still severed the ties between himself and all the other Black panthers, and despite the fact that he did what he thought was right and they had a disagreement. In the end they would still prove to have useful information in the ANAD universe now that the incursion is over. So maybe not so much him proving his "worth" to them but more so showing them that he is very much capable on his own and doesn't need to be scolded like a child and to prove that, he has them put him through trials. Im thinking him saying something along the lines of "I'll take on any and all trials you put me through, and ahow you why i was chosen by Bast to be her Champion"

The reason I don't really buy it because I never saw the actual value in him having the ability to communicate with them. T'Challa did just fine prior to having that power, and frankly never got any useful information from them while he had the power. I never saw the value of that aspect of his powers because the books never showed the value of it. And add to that I frankly assume T'Challa is the smartest of the bunch anyways. I don't know that for a fact... but it's what I personally assume (and I'll wager most people do the same).
Do I think there's potential value in the power? Sure. But the stories haven't done a very good job selling that idea. Until they do, there's simply no reason for a reader to assume him not having this ability is that big of a deal. They simply haven't given us one.
-
I still think the previous panthers having a heated debate at the 11th hour over the proper choice would have been more dramatic and made more sense. One, because I don't believe 10,000 years worth of individual leaders would have the exact same opinion on the matter, and also, would have made T'Challa's frustration and breakdown more believable and less out of character. Sometimes disagreements happen simply because people are family, not to mention the centuries of philosophical and intellectual development a society goes through. That the first, second, middle, or last panthers all agreed just rings false to me.

The Same could be said about the KotD powers in general. Up until now, no one knew what it entailed and because of that, if he lost it no one would care. which is really just a waste of potential. Like for instance, T'Challa should be able to summon 10,000years of panther knowledge and strength into himself, He may be the smartest out of all the panthers but that doesn't mean he couldn't earn something still, and as for the strength, well he could really gain a ton of physical strength (if thats what hickman meant atleast) from using that power. So if someone wanted to explore that power and not have it just be some cheesy way for him to get his power and title back, then there is value. Just simply erasing it is another notch in the lack of continuity that BP mythos has always suffered from

It was actually very understandable that we didn't see the value of the King of the Dead powers until now because as far as we knew T'Challa wasn't within 1000 miles of a zombie until that point. So yeah, in hindsight it did make sense. It wasn't wasted potential so much as it required a very specific situation which we only got on Battle World. So that makes sense.
And certainly Secret Wars isn't over yet so there is still time for the previous Panthers to contribute. So we'll see.
For what it's worth though I believe Coatess said T'Challa has peak human strength, so it's POSSIBLE that's an indication T'Challa is no longer King of the Dead and that specific power boost was just for the Secret Wars story. We'll see.

Because this was the 11th hour, I don't have any problem with there being no debate among the Panthers. They had no other sollution and they had no time to come up with one. So they either use the bomb or they allow 2 entire universe to end. I can buy all the BP's unanimously agreeing that it's better to not let the universe end. They simply had no better alternative at that moment.
Had a discussion occured earlier on in the story, when the was time to explore other options then I would agree some debate might have and perhaps should have occured.

There were opportunities to showcase the strength, when they fought Terrax, When he went up against Black Dwarf, and the Great Society. There were times to show it, but the potential was simply wasted.

When written by such luminaries as Lee, Kirby, Mcgregor, Geoff Johns, Priest, Hudlin, McDuffie and Liss, it was pretty much clear that T'Challa was a well rounded and very seasoned character who was for the most part, a uper genius intellectual with unparralelled tactical awareness strategic acumen.
It was Hickman who decided to ignore all of the characters pre-established abilities to tack on the supposed King of The Dead appellation as a means to facilitate the four year plus story he wanted to tell.
You talk about T'Challa getting no "useful information" from the past Black Panthers whilst resolutely choosing to ignore the fact that Hickman failed to write any scenes were T'Challa actually communed with the spirits let alone sought their advice. (maybe this happened off panel alongside T'Challa's "victory" over Black Dwarf)
I never saw the value of that aspect of his powers because the books never showed the value of it.
Most readers of speculative fiction would be avble easily see the value in a character being able to access the race memories of their ancestors going back a thousand years.
All it takes is an open mind and the ability to think outside the box.
And add to that I frankly assume T'Challa is the smartest of the bunch anyways.
Based on what exactly?
If the previous Black Panthers hadn't been astute leaders during the rspective reigns, there wouldn't have been a Wakanda for T'Challa to inherit rulership over in the first place.
I don't know that for a fact... but it's what I personally assume (and I'll wager most people do the same).
Well considering the fact Hickman's Secret Wars is concluding sometime next year, he'll hopefully get round to clearly illustrating just what T'Challa's King of The Dead powers actually are because it'll be a crying shame if he doesn't.

They simply had no better alternative at that moment.
Had a discussion occured earlier on in the story, when the was time to explore other options then I would agree some debate might have and perhaps should have occured.
It did occur earlier in the story. T'Challa was shown discussing the with the panthers about the great society and his fears of having to fight them and even then they were of Hive mind and all of them agreed instead of any sort of debate, it was 10k panthers vs T'challa and thats not realistically how that would of went especially not BPs
