If he loses his crown (again) I don't think it will be long term, because the BP movie drops in 2018, and knowing Marvel there almost certainly going to Re-Launch the book close to the movie date, and there will probably be a mandate for him to be King, as it's a huge part of his character, and no doubt a central theme in the movie.
Best case I think he's a King with less power, worst case The Black Panther becomes just a hero and represents to Wakanda what Captain America represents to the U.S. .
But you know what's crazy EVERY ongoing writer since Priest and him included, has written T'challa without his crown or in the Head of State position, so this really isn't anything new for BP's title.
Priest's never loss the crown. He lost the black panther title. They were not the same in Priest's run.
Techincally... hudlin's first "run" T'challa never lost the crown or title either. It was the relauch where he lost the crown and title.
What is fucked up is that T'challa never got his "redemption" arc/run. Lisses started it, ending with a more confident T'challa readyto go back home nad then.................................................
he gets the crown back by default lol. and is gonna lose power soon...
Be like Thor only becoming worthy and confident again because Jane dies instea dof having his own redemption arc. I mean yeesh
... So how about a What If mini-series where Wakanda takes over the Earth? House of W?
because the butthurt would be too strong on the interwebz that is why
Hell, id settle for "Namor and T'challa Kill the Marvel Universe" mini. Wakanda takes the land, Atlantis owns the sea lol

It'a sort of hard to do that without making the Wakandans loo like a-holes though. Taking over the world is usually a villain thing.
But maybe it could be a sort if What-If for Worlds Apart. If Storm couldn't free T'Challa from Shadow King he goes on to use Wakanda to take over the world.

That may in part be why he could be losing the crown again. He got it back, but perhaps in the eyes of some it wasn't narratively earned back.
Though personally I don't think he needs a redemption arc to get the throne back because really he shouldn't have lost it to Shuri in the first place.
Hudlin's run was different because it started out as an out of continuity mini story so when Marvel decided to make it canon there wasn't much that he could do in regards to addressing the loss of the crwon.l so that is irrelevant. As for Coates run, yes that could work and it would be much better to have the monarch with a parliament in place for day to day, But thats not what i see coates doing honestly, he is doing away with the "Evil Monarch" because he cannot wrap his head around it working... In fiction. Issue 12 will likely mark the end of the monarch for X more years to come again...
Hudlin theoretically could gave explained how Kill monger lost the BP mantle in flashback when he did his Kill monger story. But given it was so long ago at that point, I suppose it stopped mattering.

In Hudlin's run he lost his position of Head of State shortly after his ship crash landed in Wakanda and protocols gave authority to Storm. At the start of Priest's run Achebe was sharing power with Ramonda and they were running Wakanda "Jointly" even though T'challa was still somewhat pulling the strings on that.

tha was in the relaunch though. Hence why I said techically and using semantics for fun :)
He was 10 steps ahead though

You could do it.
Thing is, unless we are talking about the usual one issue What If?, you are going to need guest stars to pump up hype for a mini series.
Look how many characters they are shoving into Secret Empire.
So What If Wakanda? is going have to have either the Avengers or the FF in it or both of them.
With one of the two on Wakanda's side.

It didn't matter at that point. There was no need to address it. It would of been confusing for people who didn't know what happened in Priest run and it would of been unnecessary.

I would read that. Hell Hudlin kinda already did that in his run. have a more in depth look at how Wakanda does it and why they are capable of realistically pulling it off
I disagree respectfully. Anti hero is not the word I would use to describe him. King, who ain't got time for the bull shrimp.
What I love about Priest take on Deathstroke. Is that he isn't playing that anti hero junk. Deathstroke is a villain. Priest makes a decision on a character, he goes with what makes sense to him and he writes that character unapologetically.
I agree. Anti-hero isn't the word I would use to describe T'Challa. I've always said that he isn't a super-hero, more of a guy who will do what he thinks is necessary to get the job done. And will work with just about anyone to accomplish his own agenda.

Exactly he's not a hero, he's a monarch, One that looks at things past his borders and see's the whole scope. that's what makes him great. He does what needs to be done, but has such a high moral fiber that he won't let his position corrupt him like it could so easily do.

You can argue a guy who will do what he thinks is necessarily to get the job done is an anti-hero. But I suppose it's a matter of degree.

Hero, anti-hero?
At this point, I really don't give an owl's hoot.
Coates and his clueless agenda crew have to go.
