The character was Trevor Barnes. WW Fans didn't like him because he was obviously black, his name was apparently too similar to Steve Trevor and the final reason was because people thought he was going to be the man to "deflower" her. After Jimminez left the next writer immediately killed of the character.
Ring ring, we have a winner. On top of that, the writer would regularly get threatened for it and the fans would send in hate mail about how a black man defiled their best white woman. The mail the writer got ranged from people calling the character an N word to threatening "Tarring and Feathering."
Lol they killed that black man as soon as the writer left. Jeeez Louiz!
They couldn't wait!
Cheers for posting the scans for me, you always come through, Rumble.
It's EERILY similar to what happened to Carol and Rhodey.
I doubt we're going to see a major white female character get a black love interest that they actually take time to develop happening in DC anytime soon. We're in the Geoff Johns era and that guy literally takes pride in the fact that people praise him for removing black characters from the narrative. You'd think a guy from Detroit would have more empathy for black folks but here we are.
Can't say it isn't entertaining to watch grown men freak out at Bendis everytime Miles even looks at a white girl.
I'm fortunate enough to have a very good LCS owner. He's not a comic fan at all, he's about making money and he will order it if you ask. And he has a good staff as well.
I find that the shop that is not ran by a fanboy is usually the best one.
Why couldn't it happen in a cross over one shot? No reason it couldn't at all
The problem marvel and dc don't do cross overs anymore. Plenty of writers overtime have wanted to do one... even Bendis at the height of his popularity couldn't get one approved. With Disney buying marvel it's no longer marvel and DC doing a book together, its Warner Bros and Disney. It's something that would likely require a room full of lawyers to hammer out.
That said, I hope we do somehow get more of those. I was always a sucker for them, even though 90% of them sucked. It's still cool seeing marvel and dc characters interact.

I actually prefer the shops run by fan boys, because they tend to be more willing to let you sit there and read the comics before buying them (in my experience at least).
Often (though not always) the non-fan boy ones are more against Byrne stealing.

It's too bad for them, because interacial couples are becoming pretty common in comics these days. It's almost fair to say it's more common than two minority characters of the same ethnicity dating.

Would be any harder than DC & Saban?
DC & Archie?
IDW & Marvel?
It would probably be an issue of who gets used. We know DC will toss out the same tired folks who many are tired of seeing in everything. Marvel would toss out the standard favorites and the hated POC. LGBT & women or Marvel.
We would be denied Panther saying to Black Wally-"come with me if you want to be a REAL black man." Instead we would get Black Panther being bored to death by Hal.

GIven how rare marvel and dc cross overs are, IF they were to do another it probably would be with high profile characters (which doesn't necessarily exclude T'Challa since he's obviously got a movie coming out).
Honestly I always thought if they were going to pair up Diana with any hero it would be with Cap, since she's already got history of guys from WW2 named Steve. I would guess if they were going to give T'Challa a DC hook up it would be with Vixen. Not that I'm expecting hook ups out of a cross over, but if we did get a few that's what I'd guess we'd see.

Major interracial couple? Ha! We can't get the two major Black characters together without isht going off.

He's strictly about making that money. Couldn't tell you much about comics at all except for how much he will sell it to you for. I've been shopping with this guy for about 20 years.

I just find fanboys which I am most definitely one, just imitate other stores and their policies. Selling unsold merchandise at a higher price and storing it in unappealing boxes makes no sense.
Especially with the trade market being what it is.
There are lot of modern ideas of presentation that the fanboy store just ignores.

I've been fortunate enough to never have dealt with a fanboy owner. At one of the other shops I used to go to before he closed(I miss that shop), we talked more politics than we ever did comics.
Jimenez said he routinely got hate mail about letting a filthy N-word put his paws on Wonder Woman while writing the book. That made what happened after he left even more sickening. Like the company wanted to assure racists "Don't worry. It's cool. We're not gonna have any darkies touching our paragon of beauty ever again."

I wouldn't say it's the same as Carol and Rhodey, seeing as there was no controversy over that couple. Although, you didn't get to see much of them dating when he was alive either. I think with War Machine it was just a we-need-a cheap-shock-death-for-our-ill-thought-out-event.
As far major DC Comics BM/WF couples we did have Power Girl with Mr Terrific ( then she moved on to Val-Zod). There was Jon Stewart and Hawkgirl on the JL cartoon show ( I don't think the other alien women he's dated in the comics count). There's got to be somebody else, but that's all I can think of now off the top of my head...
Johns has actually created a number of minority characters, but he's mostly going to push his creations or the established pet characters. He's not going to get paid if Jon Stewart makes into the next GL movie, but if Simon Baz does...cha-ching.
