Because having T'challa's origin be tied to Captain America will make him more unique?
Seriously, there's nothing wrong with his origin as it stands.
Given that T'challa is debuting in the Captain America movie I think it's actually a very nice way to organically tie him into the cinematic universe. To me at least creating these sort connections are good. The less isolated he is, the more potential use they'll get out of him.
No... his origin is tied to KLAW. His revenge on Klaw is tied to the FF, but they can easily be replaced or omitted.
As for needing to be tied to another hero.... GOTG made over $300 million dollars last year. More than EITHER Cap movie. And it's only connection to the MCU is via cameos and stingers.
If T'Challa is (as I suspect) introduced in the AoU stinger, that's more than enough. I mean picture it:
Serkis (as Klaw) plays his minor part in the movie.
Ultron is defeated.
First half of credits.
Screen fades to black.
Fade in on a darkened throne room.
A voice speaks "Your Majesty."
"Yes?"
"The outlander has been located"
A face (masked or not) leans into the light. "Excellent. The Panther will have his prey."

Yes Klaw's identity as it pertains to panther is tied with the (amazing) accomplishment of having killed a King/Black Panther and his father. It defines the character. Having Bucky do it makes it a Cap thing and also diminishes the feat. It would be a side note in bucky's history since all his dealings are with cap and tied to cap.
I agree with all of this. Why would Klaw even be a BP villain if he didn't kill T'chaka?
Hate him or love him Klaw has a cool powers that will probably look good on screen.
-

And then it becomes more about the Winter Soldier's remorse and redemption than T'Challa's revenge ( since Bucky presumably would not have killed Tchaka at all if he hadn't been brainwashed to do it).
Which is fine if we are talking about a Winter Soldier movie or Bucky as Captain America movie. But not for a Black Panther movie.
-
Well, his origins were always tied to the FF, and since Disney don't have movie rights for the FF, they'd have to intro/ease him into the cinematic universe somehow. Cap makes more sense than an Iron Man or Thor movie.
I'd wish that the Panther was more publicly known like the other characters are to the masses where the movie could stand on its own two feet right out the gate without needing to be introduced in another movie first, but alas...
Blade wasn't well known to the masses and was able to support two movies that not only stood on their own two feet right out the gate, but actually jumped started the comic book based movie craze that made it possible for Marvel to get the guts to man-up and get serious about the MCU.
All Marvel have to do, is put the same level of attention, publicity and expertise into the BP movie as they've done for the Avengers movies and GOTG that no one outside of Marvel comic book readers knew about, and then they will have a bonafide hit on their hands.
Anything less will result in a massive fail.

And another thing... Oh FRAK it Majestic just said all that needed to be said with that brilliant post!
Where is that gosh dang darn doo hickey like button when you need it?
Winter Soldier killing T'chaka goes no where important to the meta plot and does what they are trying to do already by not keeping Black Panther as a stand alone solo character that can pay his own bills by his lonesome!
Once again "borrowing" villains from other character's rogues galleries!
I'm looking forward to the cool gimmick of a live acting Andy Serkis helping to sell the Black Panther movie... Even as a "Point Man" I didn't see that one coming!
He interviews well and seems very likable and it is so out there as a choice it has a great chance of working on so many levels!
Potential Fan: "Did you hear Andy Serkis is appearing in a movie not as a cgi character this time?"
Other Potential Fan: "You mean the guy that played Gollum?"
Potential Fan: "Yes, that guy!"
Other Potential Fan: "Here take my money, my credit cards, my designer watch and the keys to my house and throw them at the box office right now!"
Marvel has just lured Lord of The Rings fans over to the Black Panther by default... Whoever did this must be more on the Disney staff than on the Marvel staff because that is a straight gangsta power move right there when you think of all the actors that they could have cast in that role and got the MEH responses!

Agreed 100% my friend.
The whole borrowin of other characters villains rather than cultivating and further devoloping T'Challa's own unique gallery of villains always struck me as being a really redundant move on Marvels part. :smh:
The Andy Serkis casting is pure genius.

In the comics, writers need to stop deconstructing BP, like he is Daredevil.
In the movies, writers need not tie BP to other villains & heroes, like he is Daredevil.
After dealing with Klaw in the fist BP film, I think Killmonger could be used in the second. I could see the Mesphito-powered crazy train known as Achebe in the third film.
First film - BP vs colonialism (Klaw). Every hero needs a good revenge story.
Second film - BP vs revolution (Killmonger). I like the fact that BP has Western sensibilities (for better or for worse) due to years spent abroad which creates conflicts with Wakandans used to the more traditional ways. So it would be cool to face a revolutionary like Killmonger, who also has western sensibilities. I love the Priest take on Killmonger, with his capitalistic tendencies. T'Challa & Killmonger should be mirror images of each other, Wakandan on the outside, but western on the inside. In another life, they would be friends, and fellow misfits, but are now the most bitter of enemies. In fact, some Wakandans should wish they kill each, as both are seen to be tainted, lol. I am thinking Doctor vs Master with these two.
Third film BP vs the Devil (Mesphisto & Achebe). Writers would have to be very careful not to make Achebe a stereotype, but a crazed & dangerous foe whose actions keep the audiences guessing, as well as inducing moments of laughter. Achebe, if written well, should present a satirical look at some leaders of the world. After finally dealing with the madness & evil unleashed my Achebe, I would love to see BP rip the devil's heart out as part of the film's climax (perhaps not on screen, but off screen to keep it family-friendly), like in the book.
I am open to Ross appearing on film as the audience surrogate, but I think many forget how western BP is. I never read Panther's Rage (which I hope will finally be available once BP hits the big screen), but based on online articles I've read, it was a point of the story that BP is not totally like his people. It was a source of conflict within the story. Many in Wakanda hated Monica as she represented T'Challa's embrace of the west, and seemingly abandonment of the Wakandan culture. In the past, T'Chaka wanted T'Challa to spend years abroad so he could have a different perspective on how to lead Wakanda into the future. I think JH has implied these story points in New Avengers with T'Challa's inability to follow the same path his forefathers did while Shuri is exactly like her forefathers. Ross may not be necessary, but I loved how Priest used him to explain how often BP is underestimated while performing acts of bad-a$$ery without tooting his own horn.
I am late to the party, but I'd love to see Shuri on screen. I do prefer her as Queen, leaving T'Challa free for adventure. I like that Shuri is more traditional to Wakandan ways, unlike her brother. Hunter would work on screen, too, especially in my proposed third film .
However, I don't see why BP can't be the king and a full time Avenger since other characters appear in multiple books a month with no in-story reasons on how they can manage their personal lives, relationships, health between battles, need to rest, solo duties, team duties, etc.
Like Flex, I do feel BP should have a love interest onscreen. However, due to Priest's take on Monica Lynn, I hope she is not used. I would rather have a brand new character introduced. BP being in love with a Wakandan traditionalist would created an opposites attract & constant conflict to keep things interesting (provided writers don't fall into cliche). She has to be a warrior who can get down when needed.

I agree, also that one of the reasons why I've been feeling Shuri more then T'Challa lately, but hopefully after The NA storyline T'Challa will be written to listen to a more traditional Wakandan point a few..
And ur love interest idea has to happen..

This is what makes Shuri unique to the canon. Shuri is straight-up old school with how she handles things. I love that!!! We finally have a supporting character with purpose, and I am glad she has been used by Liss & JH when it is rare that existing BP characters are used by changing creative teams. I love that while embracing different POV's, both BP's will stick by each other. I like that Hunter represents the extreme view of things.
It seems the JH version pf T'Challa is a bit like how he was during Panther's Rage, and not the Priest BP that became my favorite interpretation of the hero.
Funny enough, the Priest version of BP came about when he encountered my second favorite interpretation of BP in Happy Pants, IIRC.
Yes, I do know that Priest drew his view of BP from the original conception of Lee & Kirby, but Priest took it to an enjoyable extreme (Galactus & Skrull protocols, indeed).
I do hope the next love interest is a Wakandan warrior/statesperson (similar to Sif), especially if/when BP gets another solo. I'd rather he stay far away from Monica & Storm moving forward. I don't want BP falling for a singer on film (I don't want any Beyonce comparisons/in-jokes).

In addition to what others have said about Winter Soldier killing T'Chaka being a bad idea, I'd like to add another reason. While it may seem cool, integrating Panther deeper into the MCU story, it also provides a dilemma when it comes to revenge. If Winter Soldier is actually the killer, T'Challa would likely be obligated (if not by his own desire, then by the desire of his people) to avenge his father's death. This makes T'Challa "villainous" to the audience as the Winter Soldier is now going to be atoning for his crimes. If T'Challa doesn't go through with it, he becomes the one hero that doesn't get the poetic justice of his villain dying.
I do think it might be fun though to have the world think the Winter Soldier was involved, and T'Challa "pretend" to go after the Winter Soldier in Civil War as a means of playing/tracking down the actual killer (Klaw). An "I know you didn't do it, but appearances must be maintained" type thing.

I could work with the statement in bold. The previous paragraph was kinda done in the comics with Daken's birth/death of mother at the hands of the Winter Soldier in Wolverine, iirc. On a side note, Wolverine is worse than a gangster rapper in terms of women, it does not matter how he loses them as they tend to die by the dozens, and freeing him to find more.

The BP film needs to follow this path. Bucky should have zero to do with anything regarding the origin of BP.

With Black Panther, Sam Wilson, and Luke Cage all having actors to portray them in live action, the thoughts of a Three the Hard Way film makes my mind wonder.
Heck, I'd settle for an animated film.
Best to avoid all convoluted complications and just stick to T'Challa's original origin with Klaw and zero Winter Soldier involvement.
With Black Panther, Sam Wilson, and Luke Cage all having actors to portray them in live action, the thoughts of a Three the Hard Way film makes my mind wonder.
Heck, I'd settle for an animated film.

So being killed by a scientist is better way to die for a warrior king than being assassinated by a killer who stood for to with Cap, Black Widow, and Falcon. Really? I mean we all know that Hydta is going to behind the assassination, at any Tate because they are the MCU big bad.

I think the idea is that Winter Soldier is so closely related to Cap in both the comics and film. It makes BP seem like a Cap spin off character instead of a hero with his own mythos. It kinda lessens his uniqueness.
And while it's cool that the Marvel movie characters exist in the same world, everybody's origin doesn't need to be connected to everyone else's.

Klaw wasn't just "a scientist". He had a decent squad of mercenaries with him, and a rather large gun that nobody had seen before. And T'Chaka died in combat with him, as opposed to being assassinated, which usually entails being shot by surprise, often from some distance.
I would rather see T'Chaka go down fighting, like a warrior king, than being just one of the Soldier's many targets, all for some vague connection to the MCU that the character doesn't need.
