there has been an historical drastic lack of adult black male character heroes in the X-Men/mutant sagas. I mean, it took until 1991 for Bishop to be created. Claremont did not create a single adult black male (in their prime). You had the juvenile Sunspot (from Brazil, but also sidesteps the black American experience), and the elderly mute magic aboriginal guy Gateway.
True. Plus, my favorite, killing off Synch as a token death, then resurrecting him (Necrosha), then forgetting he was resurrected. He should have popped up twelve times by now.
Now here's the thing. We've brought up this specific point of contention, repeatedly. Whether people agree or disagree (not sure how you can disagree you can SEE or rather NOT see black male mutants), it is NO MYSTERY what the issue is and it should at least be mentioned. But what happens? "I wish both sides would get along." Sigh.
It's not hatred. It's disdain. Look at the treatment of BP by the hands of X-writers as well as the history of Black male mutants(dead, disgraced or wallpaper). Their treatment of Black male mutants is a disgrace.
Damn if you didn't beat me to it. All you gotta do is throw down the names, starting with my fav Bishop- completely received an inverted crapping on for the sake of a throw away character Hope, oddly enough she was replacing yet another black male character that had almost the exact same power by the name of Synch. That's just the tip of the iceberg.

Even though it's been reversed [I think/hope] it still irritates me that it happened.

I...never made that connection. But you're right.
Damn.

Bro it truly is more the X-Men writers have weird aversion/ disdain for writing strong black male mutants. There wouldnt be an issue if they could write black mutants like they have written the long list of white male mutants ...with depth and dimension. Is that wrong to expect from people that are paid to do so? Like others have mentioned its very telling that the moment Black Panther happen to cross into their realm it automatically became a negative experience.

They didn't quite reverse what Bishop did. Storm destroyed the part of him which hated Hope (arguably a sketchy move) and Bishop sort of moved on past it.
But he still murdered billions of people without any real sort of out there. If they want him to be a hero ahain, they probably should have given him a stronger out.

Doesn't he have a flesh and blood arm again, though? That might be why I assumed it was "reversed".
Really I suspect divided really just means half a dozen or so guys on an Internet board. I'll wager most fans are fine with all of the above.
Yeah no it's not. This is wholeheartedly false

Meh, he's killed some people but he's not alone in that regard. Logan, Wanda, Magneto...

Typically when you murder billions of innocent people you get an out though ... usually mind control or possession or something like that. He was possessed, but that was after his killing spree so it doesn't help much.
If you want him to be a hero again, I think you some sort of get out of jail card for that large of a death toll. IMO at least.

Bishop despite all of the cool looks doesn't have the power set to match. But Gentle showing back is always cool here's hoping he's not just window dressing. Hoping he appears in BP proper at some point

Even window dressing unfortunately is a vast improvement over sitting in limbo. But yeah .... hopefully they'll do something with him. He's not your typical strong guy.
The fact that he's on the same team as Namor potentially gives him something to do, given the recent history between their people.

agreed I'm looking forward to seeing how gentle will navigate being on the same team as him.

When he's (Bishop) written properly he does

There are people arguing on twitter that Cyborg isn't getting as much attention like BP due to some SJW ideology with him appearing in JL and that Cyborg is a better character than BP (When Cyborg latest issue only sold 10,000 copies, while BP sold 55,000 copies).
BP can never catch a break both inside and outside the Marvel universe and is sad to see adults acting like this.
