I know that studios get a smaller cut of the pie in China, but I don't think China's value should be discounted because of it. It's still viewed as in important market for studios because it has a billion people and a growing economy and movie execs aren't like the comic book industry where selling 100,000 copies in a country with 300 million plus people is viewed as a smashing success. They care about the whole pie.
But yes, making $600m+ domestically is definitely way more rewarding to the pocketbooks of the executives.
China is so important because most films domestically can't even hit $400m. Black panther films are going to be making $500m+ a film if Disney market it right, so at the end of the day Disney does not care about China when it comes to the Black panther films.

Yeah and the failed BP WoW.
This book would be better if it were Okoye Nakia and Shuri. Or better yet. If it was focusing on Tchalla because he main book isn't even doing that

The next writer seriously needs to just disregard everything Coates has done and his crappy pet characters. Screw Changroo and the Midnight Brats! The whole damn world recognizes Nakia, Okoye, and the revamped M'baku. Those are the characters that people fell in love with! Not these nobodies that Coates constantly tries to shove down our throats.

There's already 3 books with T'Challa (one of which is being written by this author), so I don't see the harm in giving the Doras a book which focus on them.
Plus, I think the idea of the Doras interacting with Spider-Man potentially is fun.

But her comic was average at best. There was potential to add cool things. A new love interest and bond that sentient vibranium with a habit to turn it into a cool atl form with psychic powers.
But I think ultimately she fell short and failed to excite. But it had potential.

I wasn't a huge fan of her book either, though I didn't find it terrible. Almost had more of a Saturday morning cartoon vibe... which perhaps suits a Spider-Man story.
We'll see.

This true & some how she still managed to be Better than TNC smh..
Sooo.. While I like MCU Ayo more then Coates version. This is basically just another attempt at trying to give Ayo and Aneka shine they don't deserve. I guarantee you this would be more interesting if it were Okoye, Nakia and Shuri (MCU versions).
This feels just like BP wow. And I'm not at all impressed by how Nnedi couldn't even be bothered to respect the BP Mythos. More self serving.
I hope Marvel sees the value in Evan Narcisse and gives him a chance past his 6 issues. He is doing bast work
Very true Queen Shuri, QDJ, Nakia, Okoye Serial Killmonger & M'Baku should get a chance shine B4 the trash angels..

YES.
Now this is the chance for them to star in a book without using Panther's name.
Seeing how that BP WOW trade did on Amazon-I say Marvel is looking for a repeat of that when it hits trades.
If you knew anything about how the boxoffice works you would know China does not matter much because Disney only makes 25 percent of the money it makes it China. They make the most money here in the States. The film making this much money here is way more important.
China is known as the spot that can save movies. A poor performing domestic box office can make up a lot of ground in China look at the Mummy or the last few Transformers.
Marvel obviously wouldn't know anything about poor domestic box offices, but the industry still views things that way as I understand it

Just saw the Avengers Infinity War trailer and thought this cold be an interesting plot point for a sequel as to how T'Challa's logic of showing Wakanda to the rest of the world leading to war with Thanos and then I thought of Coates Nation Under Our Feet storyline and then I panicked a bit lol.
Please Marvel, don't base the sequel from this run.

It is sort of hard not to allow your mind to go there.
From the Wakandans perspective, T'Challa JUST came into power. He them immediately opens up Wakanda to the rest of the world, seemingly offers to allow the Avengers into Wakanda to protect them, and gets invaded in a conflict I suspect Wakanda will lose because Thanos likely needs the stones. Though we as readers can recognize that T'Challa is doing the right thing here, for the Wakandans that might be a bitter pill to swallow.
Infinity War does leave an opening to address a lot of the issues Coates delt with after a Thanos invasion in his run. It's actually MORE likely to since T'Challa JUST came into power, and Wakanda is IMMEDIATELY invaded.
That said, like all movie adaptations it's not going to be a direct translation of the comic even if they do decide to go there. That said, I wouldn't mind seeing the Wakandan ghost army we saw at the end of Coates run on the big screen. That would be kinda cool.

Even it they kept it secret, Cap knew the truth. He probably would have ended up there anyway. And Coates bases his story off the idea the WK is just like everywhere else, but with better tech. He put aside that they are a warrior culture. Like Klingons, they enjoy fighting and if they lose most of all of them would be dead. See Hickman. lol

Thanos situation is a bit different in Infinity War than it was in Time Runs Out though.
In Time Runs Out, he was essentially setting up his base of operation on Necropolis. So he likely needed Wakanda flat out conquered, and that required killing most of them. In Infinity War, he just needs to gem. If he can get that, Thanos will likely just leave without necessarily bothering to kill anymore people than he has to. To the casualties of Infinity War will likely be far more conservative than they were in Time Runs Out.
Obviously I'm speculating, a with Thanos you never know... but Thanos just needs to win the fight, not the war.
