So Smoov-E...
Since Hickman is leaving the New Avengers and is probably done with Black Panther the character as they shuffle him around from putting B-Swizzy on lockdown to chasing after The Watcher's murderer who would you like to write him?
OR...
Should they shelf him on an indefinite hiatus for the time being as they figure out if another Hudlin (That would mean a black writer) picked it up and ran with him in time for there movie?
I would like to hear your genius level intellectual ideas and concepts for the next phase of Black Panther adventures...
No no no it's not about me it's about your roll the clock back to the suppose "good ol" days( the ones you cherry pick and ignore everything else ), if we left T'Challa to your way then we would just be getting Doomwar all over again

I don't know if it would be as bad as Doomwar. But, yeah.
I don't know if it would be as bad as Doomwar. But, yeah.
People forget that Hudlin in the end set things up for Mayberry to take over, they have rewritten it to "awesome times and then he left and then things went off the rails"
-
Uhm... Er... AHEM... Smoov-E I don't know how to tell you this but there is no "roll the clock back" because everything is on a sliding timescale!
Technically Captain America and Wolverine live off of that "roll back the clock" good old days if you consider their actual age and the time that they were introduced as a character either during World War 2 or the Civil War for Logan!
There is no "good ole days" for Black Panther it's just one retcon after another trying to find a random fit for him that looks like it all comes to an end in 2015 when Hickman gets a better J-O-B somewhere else!
I say go back to the well and reestablish that underused rogues gallery of Black Panther so that fan made films of his don't have to keep "Borrowing" characters like Storm from other franchises to boost his lagging sales!
That fan film should have a well developed Achebe or Killmonger to draw from but due to a lack of vote of confidence in those villains there is the weak return to Storm or maybe Doom to garner sales!
If you go back to the "good ole days" and resurrect Achebe with this guy you get the honor of carrying your now franchise ad intellectual property on purpose for a change...

Someone call Emma Frost and tell her to tell our boy to get back home and grow his own brand enough is enough with the ensembles!
Emma Frost: "Dude go home!"
T'challa: "But I'm part of two big events now!"
Doom: "Bah... We are here for an intervention let's get on with it!"
Reed: "We all have agreed that it's time you payed your own bills!"
Stark: "No offense but you are the wealthiest character in comics and yet you keep hanging around us to make money!"
Storm: "Yes, it's really starting not to make sense at this point I mean even I have a solo comic now you need to move on!"
T'challa: "But we share a common universe... I need my friends and their villains!"
Magneto: "C'mon son this is getting old... Your 50th anniversary is coming up soon man-up!"
Wolverine: "Roaming all over the place is good for a minute but every man needs a place to call his home... Not someone else's home!"
Snikt!
Storm: "Ooooh that tickled!"
Wolverine: "I'm the best there is at what I..."
T'challa: "Quit it you two it's annoying!"
Spiderman: "Aren't you tired of being TROLLED all the time... Go home!"
Hulk: "Hulk have two solo movies... Puny cat man has none do the math!"
Killmonger: "All these FRAKKERS keep getting killed and coming back so hook a brotha up over here!"
Achebe: "If you made a Captain Phillips toy you would sell merchandise and Disney would get off your back and green light a movie!"
Moses Magnum: "Dayum dude let's do this I'm ready to get back to work!"
Solomon Prey: "Come on home we'll take care of you this time I promise!"
Malice: "I gotchoo boo!"
Princess Zonda: "FRAK him I run Wakanda now!"
Shuri: "Chick please!"
Hickman: "It was a nice run but I'm gonna go get paid now... Peace out!"
T'challa: "I pheel so naked and vulnerable right now... I just don't know what to do!"
Bast: "You are my champion, my King of The Dead!"
Halle Berry Catwoman: "King of The Dead sales!"
Uhm... Er... AHEM... Smoov-E I don't know how to tell you this but there is no "roll the clock back" because everything is on a sliding timescale!
That is rolling the clock back, you can try to cover it up by using another phrase but it's still rolling it back to something that makes you comfortable
Technically Captain America and Wolverine live off of that "roll back the clock" good old days if you consider their actual age and the time that they were introduced as a character either during World War 2 or the Civil War for Logan!
Stay on subject
There is no "good ole days" for Black Panther it's just one retcon after another trying to find a random fit for him that looks like it all comes to an end in 2015 when Hickman gets a better J-O-B somewhere else!
There are as you keep trying to tell us over and over then try to change your tune, we get it you don't like Hickman but guess what the folks who you know are actually buying his work do and at this point Marvel is more willing to listen to them then a guy who ain't spending his money on it and complains about it online and Marvel tunes those folks out
I say go back to the well and reestablish that underused rogues gallery of Black Panther so that fan made films of his don't have to keep "Borrowing" characters like Storm from other franchises to boost his lagging sales!
There's no need to go back( but you swear you're not rolling the clock back huh ) as creating new rouges like Vlad and Black Swan or borrowing like with Kraven showed you don't need to keep going back and relying on the past just cause it makes a handful of people comfortable. Also you know full well it's been the reverse as no one who handles T'Challa has uttered her name for over two years yet on her end you would think he's a member of the X-Men
That fan film should have a well developed Achebe or Killmonger to draw from but due to a lack of vote of confidence in those villains there is the weak return to Storm or maybe Doom to garner sales!
You think maybe the makers of that fan film didn't care for either of them? Wouldn't it be a shock if not everyone liked those supposed sacred holy grail villains? Shock to your system wouldn't that be
If you go back to the "good ole days" and resurrect Achebe with this guy you get the honor of carrying your now franchise ad intellectual property on purpose for a change...
No if we go back to the good old days we get nothing new, go ask DC how that is working out for them. You should go sign up with them as your mentality fits right in just don't complain like they do when things don't go the way you thought they were
Nostalgia ain't always good

Smoov-E welcome to the latest installment of...
Revenue Generation in Comics 101-
Other than the new Spiderman #1 reboot that sold 500,000 copies only a few comics are lucky to surpass the 100,000 sales a month mark!
The new "Architects" who are rearranging the furniture at will killing off Xavier and The Watcher are hemorrhaging readers left and right from an industry that once sold monthly copies in the millions... What happened to those millions btw did they just disintegrate or get switched out for Skrulls?
Meanwhile the movies are tapping that "Old school" vibe and raking in the money at the box office using "Outdated" story arcs from Frank Miller, Chris Claremont and them!
Apparently the ancient source material is winning out financially... If the Marvel Comics department itself is not careful Disney might notice that they are not carrying their subsidiary weight like ESPN, ABC, Pixar and Marvel Studios are and pink-slip peeps on the low!
Which part of "You aint making dat money no more" did you miss you seem to be all over the place with the past and the present... Make up your mind!
Black Panther went belly up cancellation with Vlad in Hell's Kitchen... B-Swizzy may be unemployed as a hero or a villain in 2015 after Hickman dips out for much greener pastures... After they find The Watcher's murderer then what for Black Panther?
I don't care about all that he say she say I want Black Panther A-list like Maberry promised 10,000 years ago!
And don't assume Marvel can't hear me I had a client that asked me about re-designing the Marvel forum on their website and I told her it should be more like the one at CBR and now that thang is gone bye bye because they couldn't compete... And speaking of Vlad she took my boss Romanian world champion wrestler Leo to the Playboy mansion and left me off the list!
Note: Leo's hero is Vlad the Impaler which is why that Hell's Kitchen story arc was so funny to me as it ran it's course and we MMA spared in the gym at random!
Don't forget I'm in Hollywood and I train some of the peeps behind the scenes wearing my comic book t-shirts I just have not pushed my agenda yet but if She Hulk becomes a TV show at ABC I take full credit for that... Personal trainers are the new bartenders! ;)

The bubble you live in must be awesome( your math and logic are just all off and your mental gymnastics is at Eric Cartmen levels), i so look forward to your Black Panther run lasting all of 6 great issues( canceled by #3 )
Cause you know Killmonger and stuff that ain't been touched on in over 6 years.......that'll bring people back( it won't )

Yeah but Flex has a point. Several.
Deconstruction will only attract those who love car wrecks. But they will get bored and move on to the next big bang. Sustained readership is what we want..and that is achieved by playing a long game. Incremental. That is having a plan. Like MArvel Studios did with the Avengers.
They did not just put out an Avengers movie. They sowed seeds building up to it. The same should be done with Panther. have him guest-star in other books or crossovers. With a long term plot or idea, characterization leading to something.

Except Flex has no actual plan, going by his "plan" you're screwed if Marvel decides to collect Priest and Hudlin's run because that is Flex's plan to just do what they did again. Greatest hits can only get you so far before people want a new album
-
Yes, but greatest hits are often sampled from the oldies that inspired them way back when!
Priest and Hudlin had the longest runs with Hudlin's being the most lucrative of the two... I say chase that money and increase it with better support!
And it's foolish to be at a comic book website where most if not all the characters that you favor are from yesteryear... Unless of course you can name a character created in the last 10 years that is at A-list level to which I say you should be in their appreciation thread backing those numbers!
All your story arcs are reboots re-imagined to fit into the modern era but it's the same ole Pheonix Force X-men versus The Avengers story arcs in a different package!
The tried and true is always heroes versus villains or heroes versus heroes that they think have turned villains... What's this new stuff you speak of?
Manga is the only genre where you get something different from the standard issue super heroes in spandex sagas!
The Black Panther is the odd man out that has not mined the potential of it's villains because only a few writers have used them freaking out over the sales numbers and assuming that they won't sell in the long run!
Game Plan???
I am the FRAKKER that informed you in advance how big Zbrush would be in the future and now it is used by practically every video game maker and visual effects team even though you spoke against that in the previous CBR forum if you remember!
I put the crayons away years ago and embraced the digital age going forward... I'm pretty sure I will get past issue #3 with my companion cartoon already in play along with the 3D prints of the character ready for Disney merchandise approval!
Borrowing from Priest and Hudlin and taking it to the next level would be quite an adventure... Come join me in 2015 Smoov-E I'll actually hold myself accountable if the numbers don't add up and go drag some new fans to the checkout counter!
Let's be real here... No one has ever gone waaaaaaay out of the box to find those missing 1,000,000 Black Panther fans and as a personal trainer that has to drum up clients on the gym floor or over the phone I go after those sales or I don't eat!
It's about time that a writer actually cosplayed as the character he is writing... I'm gonna go do some more pushups and jump rope by the pool and get my peak human sweat on!

Personally I don't want another priest (whose work I loved) or Hudlin (Whose work was hit or miss for me), I want something new. I see no reason why a future writer would have to borrow concepts from Priest or Hudlin.
-
When you say "New" do you mean like calling him something other than Black Panther?
There really is nothing new under the sun it's all the same stuff repackaged except that Black Panther is still brand new to most potential fans because like the guys I play basketball with they never heard of him at all!
Would you ditch Wakanda and make him a self gratification seeking narcissistic night stalking vigilante called the Black Panther that just so happens to dress like a cat?
Anything other than what he is now is as far from Batman as you can get so which political angle do you want to discard for the sake of newness?
The new stuff like Shuri's solo comic sold less than 9,999 or the New Avengers that currently sells a little less than the early runs of Priest's solo comic!
Hell's Kitchen was new and that sank faster than the Titanic before getting cancelled as Marvel scrambled to pay the bills and the creative team!
Besides, even if you borrowed from Priest like Nolan did Frank Miller for the successful The Dark Knight trilogy it would still come with that writer's own particular touch unless he could read Priest's mind and go word for word!
Before you go anywhere with the Black Panther you need to make sure that you don't place a character in limbo with ridiculous retcons that no one wants any part of... 2015 is coming and looks like certain things were exhausted as far as they could go with no solo comic announced to replace it!
With the Black Panther movie script still in development heck and him no longer on the Avengers cartoon there has never been a consistent revenue stream for Black Panther under any other writers than Hudlin and Priest... I wonder if this character has been more in the red than in the black financially since cancellations always come up repeatedly or writers leave after exhaustive short runs!
As I always said there needs to be a "Point Man" who works closely with a Manhattan Project creative team that is sequestered specifically with the intent of making Black Panther A-list by any means necessary... All other avenues have lead to eventual FAIL because you still did not go all in yet!
In other news and highlights some of my wife's family are coming to town so my brother in-law does not know it yet but he is volunteering to be my model for Black Panther mannerisms... I'm jacking his accent too so that we lose that whole African American pseudo fake African accent that looks like nothing more than poor research because deep down you don't care enough to go that extra mile for the character as you do the other characters!
It's about to get very African up my house and I am taking full advantage of the opportunity so that when the day comes I will have enough creative ideas to get beyond issue #3 with the Black Panther!
-

Black Panther is SUPERHUMAN now, Flex, so you've gotta get your superhuman sweat on! Peak human is soooooooooooooooo 2011!
-
Okay... Peak Super Human!
I still want a crack at Shadow Physics though... That's leaving money on the table despite how Doomwar turned out!
Bring back the No Where Room I used to bribe the Mods in there and it helped keep me off the ban list for like ever!
Jonah: "I heard that!"
Global: "No he was just playing I take my Mod duties seriously!"
Smoking Joe Acro: "Yeah, I only took a few Wakanda coins for bus fare... I was gonna pay him back honest!"
Ravin Ray': "FRAK them other Mods I'm getting paid up in here for all the TROLL ish we have to troubleshoot!"
Speaking of wealthiest heroes now that Black Panther is all nice and caked up does Wakanda still use paper and metal currency or have they caved in to the demands of world banking laws?
http://www.forbes.com/sites/stephendunn/2014/05/12/foreign-accounts-dont-rush-into-ovdp-2/
I may want to stash a few dollars in an overseas Wakandan bank so are they playing ball with the rest of the world or are they still on that unconquered schtick?
Wouldn't it be great if certain up and coming African banks not on the western world grid allowed you to open accounts on the low?
