Well, we know for sure that there were no African American and probably no other minority writers present at this meeting. Both Marvel and DC need to continue to work on and resolve this issue.
But to feel that only minorities writers can write about minorities sends a bad message.

I dont' care if Waid was an albino trust fund ginger who never has never seen an african before
I would read the hell out of a Waid BP book
im depressed now

[QUOTE=Spear of Bashenga;1153215]Who would you guys want to see play Hunter? A few years back I'd have said Antonio Banderas, not so sure now. If I knew any South African actors beside Sharlto Copley I'd probably steer that direction.[/QUOTE]
I would prefer Hunter be changed to a biological brother who is an albino instead of a random white kid found in the savannah. I never liked his origin but I liked the character. It had too many vibes of Tarzan and Moses

That's different. :D
and very fitting with the situations in Africa about albinism.

As for the interview. As much as I would like for a black writer / artists on Black Panther (just in general), given how the industry continues to be,- it is getting unrealistic to be so specific about who gets to write about him. And the character isn't North American, so the idea that he has to be written like one needs to stop. imo.

Waid really would be awesome on a BP book. At this point I think Waid would be awesome on pretty much anything.

I think he works better as not related.....how about adopted?

I'm calling BS on Waid.
Uh......BP was not even created by black folks.
BP was created by Stan & Jack......two decidedly non-black folks.
Ewing & Ostrander are great writing black people as......people.......not stoic actions figures only utilized as wall-flowers on a page.

Wakanda gets a nice tease in AOU

An interesting take on the character that I'd welcome. Like someone else mentioned, this idea makes much more sense when you consider how albinism is viewed in some African countries.
I wouldn't make him a biological relative though, he would remain adopted -- after being abandoned by his actual family due to his condition. I never liked the idea of Hunter being white (or racially ambiguous Latino).

It's like they're purposefully putting themselves in a stupid predicament. If they simply had more diverse stable of writers to draw from this wouldn't be an issue.

It's legit contradictory to how they handled Miles and Kamala. Pathetic on Marvel's part. It just takes awareness and craft. Oh and diverse editorial/creators wouldn't hurt.
Hold yourselves accountable.

Age of Ultron Spoilers (just things related to this thread):
[SPOIL]I can't believe how many places I've seen that think Johannesburg is Wakanda. I didn't realize just how ignorant people were of the fact that Africa has modern looking cities. Anyway, Serkis is great as Klaw, and I liked the design of the brand that he has for stealing from Wakanda. It's also nice to see the Avengers acknowledge just how skilled Klaw must be to smuggle Vibranium out of Wakanda. Lots of talk of how useful Vibranium is (I believe Ultron calls it the most versatile material in the universe)
No Black Panther. No Wakanda on screen, no Wakandans. The woman disrobing in the second trailer that we thought might be a Dora was not in the film, but elements of that scene remain and it's not BP related. Overall I'd give the film a 7.5/10 for reasons I'm not going to spoil in this thread.[/SPOIL]

[spoil] that is the same problem I had with people calling it Wakanda instead of Johannesburg. If that was Wakanda then where are the panther statue, where are the flying cars and where is the Black Panther. No way would the King of Wakanda let the fight between hulk and Iron man happen without him interfering[/spoil]

[SPOIL] I thought that Johannesburg was Wakanda for a second, only because of the vibranium, until I saw the white police officers then I was like "Wait a minute, there are no white people in wakanda, it must be South Africa!"[/SPOIL]
@Double O It is pretty funny how Waid is talking about that, considering that he's going to be writing FalCap, Miles, and Kamala for the foreseeable future.
