RIP, Shuri.
I hope some sort of reset will bring her back. So much untapped potential unrealized with her character.
I don't understand why writers keep removing viable concepts & characters from the BP mythology with each creative team.
At this rate, Zanda, Abner Little, & Ross may be the sole survivors before too long.

I can't help but think Stalin would just turn around, & write a follow-up story showing that was not the true Thanos BP so utterly defeated.

I'm sure she'll pop up in the new universe. To be honest, I think marvel is leading towards a year one approach to black panther to make it as easy as possible for new readers to start with black panther.
What do you think? Would you read an updated origin story for black panther?

No, because there was nothing wrong with his origin in the first place.
The fact that Marvel suddenly seem to be no longer prepared to respect continuity across the board is pretty evident in their proposed "reboot" via Hickman's next event.
How this ends up affecting other characters across the 616 MU will become evident over the next year or so but hey, all's good in the House of Ideas. :)

People really need to quit acting like Secret Wars is some sort of CoIE/Flashpoint style reboot story. Absolutely nothing anybody at Marvel has said indicates that.
-
Wait? When did Shuri die? Forgive me for asking as I just recently saw the ending with T'challa and Namor with Blackbolt and now I'm hearing the cool Shuri isn't alive anymore? Marvel....what are you doing?! Or should I say Hickman! What are you doing?!

It's February already here in the Philippines. Happy Black History Month! :)

We technically didn't see Shuri did. Though things didn't look good when we last saw her fighting Proxima Midnight at the end of NA 24.
I still don't entirely understand why T'Challa left her though.

"The Marvel Universe as you know it is done. The Ultimate Universe as you know it is done." - Tom Brevoort, 20 Jan 2015.
It may not be a reboot in the classical "start from zero" sense (which has NEVER been done cleanly, but I digress), but there's going to be enough rewriting of histories that it will be reasonable to speak of "pre-SW continuity".
At least it would be reasonable, if I were planning on reading any of it. But NOTHING I'm seeing makes me think the characters I care about will be treated with respect. The entire Marvel Universe, reduced to "Let's watch heroes fight!" :P
Oh well, hopefully the movies will stay clear of this mess.... as far as I'm concerned, that's the only place I'll find the T'challa I grew to love back in the day.

Eh... I still think all of this essentially is just a life boat to get Miles in the 616 before the close up shot on the Ultimate Universe. Obviously there are easier ways to do that, but this is a big story which will likely get a lot of attention and sell books. But when the dusk clears I still think the 616 will be pretty much the same, only with a few extra guys walking around. But we'll see.

From a writers, perspective most of B.P.'s supporting cast is kinda generic. So you as a writer are gonna want to replace that placeholder dude with a guy that you created yourself. The writer who comes after you thinks that same thing.
And so on.
You have the older mentor dude who could be either Medinao the herbalist, N'gassi orUncle Syan. Priest made his older mentor guy a raving but, to make him stand out.
Then there's the side kick who could either be W'kabi, Ross or the waitress from Liss' run whose name I can't remember right now. Note that Priest made sure that nearly everyone in his his supporting cast was more problematic than useful to Tchalla to make them interesting as characters.
Less often there is also a tech guy. Its usually Taku. There's never much for Taku to do.
Shuri got her own supporting cast with her own sidekick and tech dude when she took over the book.
I'm not gonna say too much about Monica Lynn since she is the sole exception to this. As the designated love
interest, she showed up in nearly every version of the Black Panther comic, up until the marriage.

I'd say you're half right. It isn't a way to get Miles into 616. It's a way to make the comics as much like the movies as possible (without actually being as good). Which is why I predict T'Challa won't get a title until they have a better idea which way the films are going.
-
And there is the problem. The films are so good because of the comics. The thing that inspired the thing they are trying to emulate will only become worse and when the films go tits up and the comics follow directly we'll lose the reason we and the films are here in the first place.

I'd say that the MCU films are good DESPITE the comics. Sure, they took the basic concepts of the characters as inspiration, but they have never tried to be direct adaptations. So while the comics are mired down in shocking twists and interminable Events, the movies have focused on telling good stories, often with a sense of fun the publishing line is sorely missing.
In Panther's case, I don't expect a straight adaptation of any of the classic runs. What I DO expect is that T'Challa will be a strong protagonist, not just a cog in the plot machine.

Besides his life..... What hasn't Panther lost in this story line?
Same for reed, strange, Namor........, black bolt, etc
It's going to come back around and reset for a movie push. The more they deny the illusion of change with secret wars the less I listen.
I've actually dropped of solicits and advance spoilers. I only have the most basic idea of secret wars. It's great.
Happy black history month everyone.
