How many Black Panthers have been spefically named through the years or shown on panel?
Bashenga
Azzari
T'Chaka
S'Yan
T'Challa
Shuri
Killmonger was briefly Black Panther.
A few Black Panther's were shown during Hudlin's run but none of them were named.
I believe Zuri named a bunch of them in the early Priest issues.

"G’Bundo the Fearless" was mentioned towards the end of Priest's run. There also was at least one that Hudlin mentioned by name: Chanda, the "slavery-age" Black Panther. Shows up in Hudlin's first annual issue.
I like it. I wouldn't mind seeing him on a Panther solo.
We already claimed him to rotate with Marquez on Ult. Spidey( we move quick )
Also........homeboy posted up on that pillar on the right in the far back.......I wanna know what his deal is cause hooligans recognize hooligans and this hooligan knows that's a hooligan
He's the one that always stands out to me. I guess because we know that's a previous Black Panther and there has to be some story as to why he would be wearing western clothing.
1800s-1900s I would assume some time in that range. THing about a business suit means it gates the characters possible active range.
I'm digging the one with the spear and face paint and the one with the long pointed ears. Overall, I like the various designs of them all.
Oh and don't forget T'Konda "The Wall" who T'challa mentioned in the first issue of NA. He said one of the kids was his desendent.
So we have...
Bashenga
Azzari
T'Chaka
S'Yan
T'Challa
Shuri
G’Bundo "the Fearless"
T'Konda "The Wall"
So many of the Black Panther were given "nicknames" that described them. What do you think T'Challa's should be based on his exploits in Marvel Universe history?

Tchaka -the Great King
Tchalla King of Shadows (Due to his shadowy and behind the scenes work)
Queen Shuri - the Avenger of Wakanda (she should have a spot on an Avenger team)
T'challa King of Shadows is too close to Batman and The League of Shadows... He can however use Shadow Physics which covers special sciences and possibly magic!
The Most Dangerous Man Alive title was cool but just plain Black Panther is enough because it has that "IT" factor already built in by default!
King of The Dead has too many moving parts in it's explanation that requires Egyptian Google searches to define it what it truly is and escapism should move you from National Geographic not towards it!
In sales and marketing this is similar to having too many links on your web page that leads viewers away from the original site which they may not return to after they chase down all that other info it's too distracting!
With this King of The Dead aspect oozing with The Last Airbender Avatar vibe it lessens how important the death of T'chaka means to T'challa if he can commune with him like Luke Skywalker did with Obi Wan after he died!
Too many moving plot points will have the main character all over the place and difficult for a reader to follow vicariously... I mean who wants to cosplay as King of The Dead when the Black Panther title alone is more than enough!
Cleopatra and The Mummy already cover the Egyptian angle so why not have your own identity and mythology and grow from there... Wakanda needs better world building!
I like the Avatar aspect that has been added to Tchalla and the Black Panthers mythology. It opens up story telling possibilities that were not there before and right now we are seeing more Black Panthers then ever before.
FINALLY WE SEE SOMETHING WITH HIS NEW POWERS
Faith Restored.
Back on the Hickman train.
Don't let me down HIckman.
I never understood this vibe.
Black Panther being in the Illuminati is probably the best thing that ever happened to him other than joining the Avengers.
He's now down with a group of characters where the least popular of them has a decent fanbase. And he is important to this team in a way that he can never be in the Avengers as long as Cap, Thor and Iron Man are around (and they aren't going anywhere).
So Hickman did a lot for B.P. just by including him in a crew that fans are gonna care about by definition.
^^Copping from one franchise is ok but not from another? The word shadow is too close to something Batmanny so it is not ok but then again it is because it has to do with physics? What? I mean, hungh? Might as well say BP looks too much like bats so his costume has to go. I will agree that Wakanda needs better world building. And a good writer will make people WANT to go to National Geographic and google because they are so wrapped up in the story and character.
I really disagree with him joining the avengers being the best thing that happened to BP or him being in new avengers being the second best thing for him. Those go to McGregor and Priest IMO.
Being an Avenger doesn't really do much for characters

Wakanda was fleshed out pretty well.............till somebody decided it'd be "cooler" to do away with all of it.

I don't understand the vibe of your post?
Never said him joining the NA was bad??
"Faith Restored" is the fact that the KoD stuff is finally going to be touched on somewhat instead of just a random title with no real meaning and vague hints. Instead of vague hints, we are actually SEEING T'challa on panel contact his elders for knowledge.
T'challa looks like billy bad ass and comes off cool as a cucumber in original sin 1.
much of the gravitas that scene draws from is, oh hows that go.... "swagger jack" aaron did.. hell, look at the investigation teams. all the illuminati members have a Ora of death and power floating around. that is injected into the story by continuity and deadato's style and established Illuminati tone
BRING THIS STORY ON!!

Yeah, I get what you're saying. We're finally beginning to see some of the things we were curious about with the KotD upgrades. And while it's great to have T'Challa in NA, if he's just wallpaper with no focus it really doesn't matter. No one wants to read about their being wallpaper.

Like Beast?
Man, you can really tell so far that Hickman wanted a different mutant representative (Charles or Magneto). I mean dang... has Beast done anything at all in 18 issues? Anything?
Starting to feel bad for him. I can't even remember a relevant conversation other than Swan saying McCoy's move people off Earth.

I actually think now would have been the time to include Cyclops.

I'd have included Emma instead.

Beast fans must really feel bad. There weren't that many mutants that could have fit the criteria for Hickman's Illuminati that were available at that time. It's often detrimental that Marvel has this in-house exclusive character thing going on. It's left many characters feeling useless.

If he couldn't have Magneto, who fits the plot perfectly especially if fully powered up, HIckman isn't getting Cyclops or Emma.
Plus, with their broken powers, they would be useless.

Only Charles and Magneto really fit.
I feel like Beast COULD fit (smart enough, has done questionable things in the past for the greater good) but Hickman seems to have zero interesting righting him.
Plus McCoy is really too much of a passive follower. Stark, BB, T'challa, Namor, Reed, Strange are all Leaders and Alpha males. Plus Hulk is Hulk.
McCoy... is just Hank.
Tchaka -the Great King

Wit hBruce and Maximus on the team, maybe someone has to go. Hank and Namor probably.
Here are some of the problems with Black Panther and having an ensemble cast around him at all times and the as yet to be explained powers...
Spiderman... Bitten by radioactive spider day one!
Hulk... Gamma radiated accident day one!
Captain America... Super Soldier Serum day one!
Fantastic Four... Cosmic rays day one!
Black Panther... King of The Dead retcon to be continued after several ensemble cast stints eventually some day down the line!
Powers and Skill Sets need to be defined right off the bat then you get into the capers and cases that come about not before otherwise you confuse the Cosplay players of what they are supposed to be dressing up for!
Canon + Continutiy = Everything!
If you delay the explanation of the powers it's like every other baseball player having a baseball card with their season stats ready for sale and you are that lone player still not ready for market with your stats right in the middle of an ongoing season!
Basically your baseball card is completely blank as they sort out your hits, runs and errors coupled with height, weight and 40 yard dash time... But at this point no one has clocked you to claim statistically how fast you really are as compared to the other athletes who are way past the day one mark!
Anything that the Black Panther accomplishes is questioned because it is never clear what it is that he is capable of as you wait it out for him to finally speak to deceased Black Panthers before him!
Now... Because Black Panther is such a hard sell obviously based on poor marketing Marvel thinks that sticking him in with other well known characters is the answer instead of boosting him as character you have complete confidence in as a stand alone investment!
Black Panther is like that small stock as part of a large mutual fund that does not really stand out like Microsoft or Apple does when it comes to dividends within the whole of the portfolio!
Tomorrow morning so to speak a brand new character not associated with Marvel or DC could emerge and become more popular than any other character from out of no where!
Just because Black Panther is tied to the Marvel umbrella does not mean that he could not be this character separate from the farm and then later reattached as he grows bigger on his own!
In the pre-rebooted thread I alluded to the possibilities of him generating a fan base beyond the standard issue Fanbratti to hold his own in the revenue department as the characters he shares the ensemble castings with!
It is not impossible for Black Panther to become a billion dollar franchise but if he always needs piggy backing to get there this is an epic fail in concept alone!
Black Panther needs to earn his keep at some point in Marvel history by himself... Has that movie script made a return on investment yet?
STOP THE RANGE ROVER SIR!!!
Start it back up. How many moving parts does T'challa's tech have? It is what it is. King of the dead status can be treated the same way. Simply. Just like tech can be used to describe the Wakandan mind, the spiritual aspect can be used matter of factly to describe the Wakandan soul. It can describe narratively glimpses of Wakandan history off the cuff with a remark from T'Challa and move on to his next elbow strike to his opponents nose. King of the Dead is a very, very useful story telling tool for anyone interested in writing the Black Panther. Just like tech can take Wakanda out to the stars, KoD can take Wakandans on a journey inwards.

Beast fits in that he's the only Xman alive at the time that I'd buy Charles willing his Infinity Gem to
(Charles would of given his I-gem to Jean before Henry, but she's dead).
And even Beast is more potentially useful to the Illuminati than Namor is, being more or less the muscle of a group like this.
Everybody in the Illuminati is some kind of uber genius other than Namor and Black Bolt.
Banner/Hulk joining makes it ever more skewed toward the brainiacs.

Being an Avenger benefits some characters quite a bit, so it can be reasonably argued that post Priest/McDuffie/Hudlin & Liss, being part of the Illuminati has really elevated T'Challa and Wakanda to pre Doomwar levels of importance and status within the 616 MU.
I actually think now would have been the time to include Cyclops.
Oh that'd be good! Fits the "leader of his people" theme and his current attitude would make his reactions to the incursions especially interesting.

Meh he provides nothing useful. I dont like Frost but at least telepathy is a useful ability to have.
Laser eyes aren't useful?
Illuminati currently have 3 members who could destroy a whole planet by themselves (BB, Hulk, Strange), 3 members who invented/built something that could destroy a planet (BP, Reed, Stark)
along with genius Hank and super strong Namor.
Laser eyes on a normal human aren't very useful. Especially not broken laser eyes.
Although, I could have seen Xavier leaving the Gem to Scott unless he somewhow knew Scott would obliterate him lol.
I would have rather seen Scott than Hank personally. Hickman apparently likes Scott a lot anyway and a least Cyclops has been a leader of mutant kind and currently leads half of them. Unlike Hank who just messes up time streams and gets punked by the Watcher.

Well yeah.
It is amazing how Daredevil has historically been able to hold a solo without showing up in any other comics or teams. He breaks all the rules lol.
