Obscure properties have LESS baggage and red tape.
Lets say you wanted to do Eli Bradley, Rocket Racer or Vibraxas-you can do them and not mention Captain America, Spider-Man or Black Panther. Nor have battles over what to do in their films. You can cast whoever you want and not have a battle.
Now try that with say Wonder Woman and you see the results.
Animated wise they have too many weapons-they could do Masterpiece Theater and showcase one character an episode.
Could you make a case for Martha Washington or was that a mini series? If we are talking all comics?
Marvel
Monica (Proton) is the first one to get a one shot
Shuri is really the first
Storm is the second but first Non legacy one and would be the first black female to have a mini
Misty Knight would be the second one
True. If I was a movie exec wanting to do a licensed superhero movie, I'd definitely look at 2nd tier or B-characters. More freedom creatively. Less judgement from over zealous fans. General public willing to go in with an open mind...
Martha Washington was a series of mini's and a one shot. I've criticized Frank Miller before, but I think he sometimes gets a bum rap over his depictions of women. People become fixated on the sex workers in Sin City, they forget he's created female heroes like Martha and Casey (Ronin) who are WoC and other interesting female characters.
Finally, talk turned to why exactly Marvel have yet to head to Africa for Black Panther or have put the spotlight on a female superhero, but Feige remains open to the idea of introducing both of these in the near future. "I think we could, it’s a matter of when. It’s a matter of what are those dates, it’s a matter of juggling multiple, successful franchises. Is there a downside to managing multiple, successful franchises? I believe we’re figuring out that there is, which is having the time to do them all. So, at what point do we hold back a franchise or have three or four years between parts of a franchise in order to introduce new ones? Or do you introduce new ones within the body of the films? We’re looking at all those things right now." This is a lot of information to digest, but what do you guys think of Kevin Feige's comments?

Kevin Fergie seemed alot less dodgy about the Black Panther movie happening or not. This is positive news
I'm not hatin' on the guy, but he's simply gotten better at public speaking. This is the statement he should've given a couple of years ago which is, "There are no immediate plans...But who knows what might happen tomorrow."

Holy Terror.

I haven't read it, but I've read about it. The impression I got was that it goes beyond anti-terrorism into Islamophobia territory. I wasn't trying to give him a pass for that or the other unfortunate stuff he's said though...More commenting on the "Frank Miler is obsessed with whores!" thing you used to see lot. Once upon a time Miller was capable of doing non-cliched female characters.
Press conference 101...
Kevin Feige: "FRAK IT... We threw in the towel and we now hand the Black Panther franchise over to the newly appointed Point Man!"
Point Man: "Thanks Kevin, the Black Panther will be commandeering one of those movie slots ASAP!"
Intrigued Reporter: "Uhm Mister Point Man... Tell us your plans for the Black Panther!"
Point Man: "First thing we are going to do is stop this musical chairs 'Architect' thang that peep think will work and go all in and then we will initiate a separate Manhattan Project office for all things Black Panther thus eliminating his involvement in events that keep chumping him out repeatedly!"
Reporter Seated Next to Intrigued Reporter: "WTF does that mean?"
Point Man: "Insanity is when you keep doing the exact same thing while expecting a different result!"
Cute Female Reporter With Mad Dimples: "Hey!"
Point Man: "Hey there yourself!"
Cute Female Reporter With Mad Dimples: "Mister Point Man..."
Point Man: "You can call me Point!"
Cute Female Reporter With Mad Dimples: "Will there be a love interest for Black Panther?"
Point Man: "HECK YEAH... In addition to fleshing his own rogues gallery with female foils we will have some suitable prospects locked into the Black Panther intellectual property and unavailable for usage outside of his world so that Wolverine and them won't be TROLLING his bedroom with they hairy butts!"
Fanbratti Reporter: "You're totally racist man... TOTALLY!"
Point Man: "Sit down and stop hating... Next question!"
Mickey Mouse: "Yeah, when will I see a return on my investment?"
Point Man: "Mickey chill that noise you're the one who sat back all this time and let peeps run roughshod over your ownership rights!"
Mickey Mouse: "Whatevs just make me dat money!"
Little Girl With A Random Disney Princess T-shirt On and A Sad Face Frown: "Mister Point Man in your fan fiction you killed Shuri... Will you kill her off in the solo comic?"
Point Man: "Naw... The former queen of Wakanda 'Princess' Shuri will be retconned going to Dora school to help flesh out her BFF's Nakia and Okoye and they will be made a bit younger as we go after that little girl market in Wakanda Manga style!"
Little Girl With A Random Disney Princess T-shirt On and A Gleeful Happy Face: "DUH... I want some toys!"
Point Man: "Here have a cute stuffed Black Panther bear and some Wakanda chocolates the toys are being 3D printed up as we speak so grab your soccer mom's pocket book and let's do this!"
Kevin Feige: "That will be all for now so if you could all form a single file line..."
Point Man: "Excuse you... I aint done here! When I said Point Man I meant Point Man! I'm going all in until the job is finished this aint Spiderman where you can phone it in with a household name that sells no matter what! Are there any more questions before I start my power POINT presentation for the sales and marketing plan?"
Kevin Feige: "Uhm we don't own the rights to Spiderman..."
Point Man: "DUDE... Can I finish?"
Kevin Feige: "My bad... Carry on!"

Somebody told me that Shuri as Black Panther did not start with #1 so since it didn't start with #1, it's not considered her ongoing but just being one of those who became a Black Panther.
And somebody also told me it was Voodoo from Wildcats which is already won by DC Comics, is the first black female character with an ongoing. So, who is it really?

Voodoo had a miniseries in the late 90's but that wasn't an ongoing. Her ongoing was published as a DC comic in 2011.
Black Panther vol.#5;where Shuri gets the Panther mantle passed to her was published in 2009.
The first arc is effectively her origin story.

Him publicly campaigning for it means he wont get it.
I've never seen an actor publicly state they want to play a specific superhero and actually get the role.

Nick's a BIG comic book fan. He took his stage name from Luke Cage and named on of his kids Kal-El. If they'd offered him Paste Pot Pete, he would have taken it. (smiley face)
I have never written a Dear John letter so here goes...
Dear John... Boyega,
If you do get the role please do not let all those older actors like Downey Jr. punk you on the set. What this means is MAN-UP and don't let them pull a Dave Chapelle and try to entice you to wear a dress over some lame premise of you infiltrating AIM as a woman on behalf of all the other Avengers who are not required to wear a dress except of course Black Widow!
And... Put some bass in your voice so that you don't have to stick out your chest every time Hemsworth walks by you on the set!
Also... Read lots of Priest Black Panther and put those Roy Thomas and Maberry issues down there is nothing but pain for you if you use those as reference points!
Last but not least... Stand up hard for the role and don't just accept any ole script where you end up getting so shamed that you need therapy afterwards because they played you son!
Sincerely Yours
Point Man
P.S. Dayum you Chiwetel start tweeting beyotch before I come see about you... If this young man gets played I'm blaming you! Lol
Chiwetel Ejiofor Tweet...
@ChewyEdge
"Chilling in South Africa keeping it real with some hot Doras and whatnot... Peace!"

check out more of his art outside she hulk and you would see he can also do more naturalistic art and he is good at doing dynamic motion which would be good for a B.P book.

David tennant campaigned for the doctor and got it. You never know, marvel might be interested in the response to this
I love John Boyega (everyone should watch Attack the Block). He has a role Star Wars, so he's already part of Disney/Marvel.
Who knows, it could work. I know I wouldn't be against it.
I'd also like Aldis Hodge or Chiwetel Ejiofor.
It depends on what age they're going for. If they want a younger, still pretty green T'Challa for an origin story, then Boyega would probably fit that role better. If they want a someone older and more experienced T'Challa, then Ejiofor would work great. Personally, I'd rather have it be the former. T'Challa has an interesting backstory that I'd like to see on film, plus I'd like to see T'Chaka and his relationship play out for a little bit at least, before the inevitable happens.
A younger T'challa needs to be far away from the main Marvel movieverse because dude is not upstaging Robert Downey Jr. (Age 49) like ever nor Samuel Jackson for that matter!
Chiwetel Ejiofor is much more grown up and accomplished as an actor so his veteran experience would be more respected on the movie set when he made any demands on behalf of the character as Halle Berry did for Storm!
You send an actor that is practically a child in the midst of other older actors playing characters that have way more support than Black Panther ever gets and I smell trouble!
The problem is not John Boyega himself but the ready made politics that prevent Black Panther from being a major priority for Marvel Studios!
They are well into the Marvel movie verse and having to wait for T'challa to grow up as they are already fighting Loki and Ultron will be awkward because he would be too young to fit in with them but would be excellent as a stand alone Nolan Dark Knight type series that had nothing to do with the other characters!
If they went after the Disney soccer mom money with a younger T'challa that would be fine but the moment Boyega is mixed in with the rest of the cast members you eliminate simple possibilities like hooking up with Black Widow perhaps ... No I'm not saying that he and Widow would get it on but if they are age compatible it won't come off like he is a little brother among big brothers and a hot sister and makes potential flirtations realistic!
Most people have peers from their own station in life by age and similar accomplishments so his back story is way behind the others on the world stage... If they went with him then they should plan to age out the other characters and reboot them all later with actors in their early twenties with a Beverly Hills 90210 vibe for the younger audiences!
And unless you want that Cher stigma you can forget that crossover talk with Halle Berry as Storm hooking up with him...

Point Man: "Halle Berry... No... Kerry Washington... No... Lupita Nyong'o... No... Keke Palmer... Hmmm... Perhaps..."
John Boyega: "Hey Point Man what are you doing?"
Point Man: "I'm trying to find an age compatible love interest for you... It seems like most of the main black leading ladies are 30 and over so this is going to be a tough sell not making them look like they are robbing the cradle!"
John Boyega: "Cast some unknowns then I'm good with that... But make sure she is cute though!"
Point Man: "The problem with that will be the studio funding especially if there is not a major star attached to a character with such a controversial name as it is!"
John Boyega: "Dude I'm booking a flight to Wakanda... Yeeeeeeeeah booooy let's do this!"
Chiwetel Ejiofor: "Hey Point Man!"
John Boyega: "What's he doing here?"
Point Man: "This is awkward you're early... Chewy could you wait in the back room with Lupita while I discuss some things with dude here!"
John Boyega: "This is foul man you aint right!"
Point Man: "You know... You would make a great Nezhno!"
John Boyega: "Who the FRAK is that? I'm the Black Panther beyotch!"
Point Man: "Security!!!"
Boyega could end up being one of the biggest stars in hollywood after next Christmas, especially amongst the people most likely to see genre/blockbuster films.
I'll take a wait and see approach.

Dude has a starring role in a direct sequel to one of the biggest franchises of all time (one that A LOT of people thought was never going to be made) and he's in house with Disney now. I'd be shocked if someone isn't at least entertaining the idea of him as BP. Plus he's young enough and most importantly new enough (read inexpensive) that they could save a boatload on getting him locked into a multipicture deal early on.
If Star Wars performs (it will) and he's seen as a stand out I'll bet we'll hear a lot more about BP in the MCU.

Star Wars (liscense to print money, bombastic, huge films that everyone you, I, or that guy knows has seen).
vs.
12 Years a Slave (Critical darling that almost no one saw until oscar season).
You really want to go on with this who is/will be a "major star" argument?
Also, the movie is Black Panther, not Black Panther's girlfriend. Maybe you knew who Haley Atwell was before Captain America but I sure didn't. Which BTW was a title Marvel also gambled with. The whole First Avenger subtitle was because they were worried about overseas sales.
The only superficial gripe I would have with John Boyega is his height. I think BP should have a physical presence. I don't want BP to be at eye level with Start (RDJ). I do think a younger actor is the way to go. I'd love for Idris to play T'Chaka.

Camera tricks can solve that problem, Tom Cruise is a midget yet his movies make sure he's as tall or taller then everyone else
They even made it look like DMX is the same height as Gabrielle Union
