I finally read Geoff John's run of Avengers and man can he write a great Panther. Any fan of Black Panther needs to read Avengers Redzone, holy crap there is a fight where he takes off his gloves for the express reason of getting his bare hands on somebody (who I am not going to spoil); it is glorious.
I didn't like Red Zone,or not the ending, bc BP was on the verge of getting stomped by red skull twice and needed the white guy from the ultimates and Falcon's bird parade to save his butt both times to set up the jaw punch.
Priests T'Challa should not be getting his ass choked out by Red Skull in a 1on1 fight, so Geoff Johns, the known John Stewart hater, gave us a discount Priest T'Challa in that regard. Prior to that fight scene, I thought his BP was pretty solid
Though I LOVED that story and felt Geoffs wrote a near zen perfect rendition of Priests T'Challa, to this day I still argue T'Challa jobbed a LITTLE BIT in that fight. I don't think his opponent should have done quite as well as he did.
But that's a SMALL SMALL nitpick. Geoffs Avengers run was sort of hit and miss, but Red Zone definately was a hit.
Oh absolutely, I mean his opponent easily dispatched Captain America which is pretty ludicrous.
I wish Coates gives us more of a bad ass T'Challa as we march toward the interplanetary empire of Wakanda.

Cool, I didn't want to ruin for a newcomers to the character.
I mean come on the friggin Red Skull saying once he takes over America the first place he is going to "cleanse" is Africa. Then he continues and says Black Panther will never lay his "filthy hands" on him and calling him a "animal" man it was so cathartic to see Skull's face nearly torn off.

If only a writter would have followed up on the agreement Tony and T'Challa made in regards to an exchange of knowledge/resources/tech, a missed opertunity imo!

Yup. Red and Skull should have thrown down with T'Challa a long long time ago. Due to the nature of the characters, it's a very natural conflict.

Honestly, I think thats more of an issue with fandom than anything else. After the horror story of Hickman's arc, you had the hero that lost the most save the day.

Interestingly enough, of T'CHallas peers Stark arguably does seem to be the one T'Challa goes to the most for intel. We saw him talking to Stark for help about Killmonger and Stane. Course there are specific reasons to get to Stark.. in the case of Killmonger Stark was working with government at the time, and in the case of Stane there was history there. Still, I do think Stark finds himself on the receiving end of a conference call from T'Challa perhaps more than any other hero.

I dunno about that, villains are pretty good with their death traps and whatnot ;)
But in hand to hand, T'Challa should have had no issue with Skull.
Credit where credit is due, though. Johns was one of the few willing to work with Priest's depiction, but his execution needed some fine tuning.

Yeah, I can respect the idea that the writer wanted to make the villain more of a credible threat. But I think T'Challa needed to be not at 100% for whatever reason in order for Skull to have done as well as he did. Frankly you can make the arguement that Skull would have won the fight if not for a bit of help.
But that one nitpick aside, I enjoyed Johns potrayal of BP a lot. He got that iteration of the character better than anyone.

If you understand racism and white supremacy, then you understand why it's not a bigger deal. lol
It would be a bigger deal if it happened in the MCU, b/c the buck stops with Fiege.
In the comics however, you typically have to look like Propaganda Steve (Rogers) or Clint Barton to get that privilege..

During Secret Wars, despite Val and Reed specifically stating multiple times that the idea and design of the raft were T'challa's, many people still claimed Val and Reed were responsible for saving the few that survived the end of everything.
There were even posts that said T'challa didn't deserve a seat on the raft. That he designed.

That one is actually understandable because Secret Wars 0 does actually give the future foundation credit for building the raft. So either they were responsible for one raft and T'Challa was responsible for the other, or marvel just got it's wires crossed. But readers aren't at fault for believing one instead of the other, because the actual books say both.

Clearly T'Challa and Reed came up with the idea and design of the raft while Val and the kids built the thing...
Which is beside the point of people crediting Val and Reed for the raft while omitting T'Challa, which is inexplicable and inexcusable... those of us not trolling, know this.
Anyhoo.

Why would I give incompetent people a pass? I don't forgive or ignore willful stupidity.
Secret Wars #0 was a niche free comic book day issue but it doesn't exist in a vacuum, and presumably they didn't stop reading at that issue.

They'd have had to read Secret Wars #1 to understand the full scope of the plan and the level of detail BP and Reed put into who was getting saved. So they read that and said "We'll give Reed the credit too!"
Guess they forgot about the black guy. Understandable mistake i'm sure
Same way people wanted to give Reed the credit of saving the universe at the end.
Forgot about the black guy there too. Also understandable, i'm sure.
Understandable pattern of behavior

If one reads everything, then I think it's fair to give credit all around certainly. In Secret Wars I think Reed vagualy says "we" came up with and built the life rafts... which basically gives everyone credit. Which is probably the fairest thing since BP, the Future Foundation, and Reed were all on the same side doing their part. But certainly I don't believe BP should be omitted.

funny how that works. Hell Even Marvel pretty much did the same thing. Saying that Reed and Co saved the MU and such, When it fact it was T'Challa that brought back 616 and Reed and Co and recreating/exploring the multiverses

There's where Hickman having T'Challa go back to NA 1 really made things weird. T'Challa does seem to restore the universe, but the Incursions still happen anyways with Reed getting the credit the second time around.
I sorta wish Hickman just showed T'Challa restoring things without going back to NA 1. Would have made things simpler all around. But in the least, Hickman gave a nice threat which is leading to the whole Galactic Empire thing to it all works out.

I don't know much about Skull from that era but from Wikipedia:
At one point, Red Skull's mind inhabited a body cloned from Captain America's, which possessed the mutagenic alterations induced by the Super-Soldier Formula. He was thus endowed with a body that was in perfect physical condition, with strength, speed, durability, agility, dexterity, reflexes, coordination, balance, and physical endurance that exceeded that of any Olympic athlete who ever performed. Despite the scar tissue covering his face and head, his senses were still above-average. He has been shown as a superb martial artist, though he was never on par with Captain America himself; he was originally trained by German athletes appointed by Hitler, and is heavily trained as a skilled marksman with various forms of handguns, and well-versed in the use of firearms and explosives.
Yeah, in Steve's body he is more than capable against Red Shirts. But he was never a match or Steve (and he was dominated by the Kingpin in one on one combat too).
He's no push over, but below top tier.
