yeah that would be pretty interesting. What did you think of his story in the Black Panther Annual?
Don't know the artist, but must be a Hudlin fan.

Great find this is amazing.
Idk how people are saying Kirby is the worst BP writer. He might not be the best when you look at the most iconic runs but he's fr from the worst.
I'm not saying he's the worst writer, but I also don't think this is at all his strongest work. Even looking at stuff from this era, I think Eternals and Devil Dinosaur are both stronger.
Black Panther Vol. 1 #5 - Quest for the Sacred Water-Skin!!

The Panther searches for the Sacred Water-Skin but instead finds Danger from the Abominable Yeti! Good to know, cover. Honestly, when I'm seeing a Black Panther cover and see a white ape creature, I'm always hoping it's a White Gorilla from the Jabari, but I don't think Jack Kirby would have paid attention to either the original M'Baku Avengers story nor the Don McGregor story.
T'Challa is looking a shriveled dead man, being told that he is the Sammurai he fought last issue. It turns out, when separated from the sacred substance that kept him alive for centuries, he shriveled and died. T'Challa is still like "I don't care." Princess Zanda says that, as a leader of his people, T'Challa should be learn more about the uses of power. T'Challa says that he weilds power for peace. His people survive and prosper because they've never been abused. Princess Zanda says Fear brings peace. Fear of this Battlestation, I mean Fear leads to anger - ah forget it. Either way, she's a big fan of fear. She then tries to make out with him but he's not really all that into it. So Zanda instead points a nuclear missile at Wakanda and threatens to blow it up.
Weeks into the journey, flying Zanda's flying hovercraft, they get shot at by a mysterious foe. The ship catches on fire and T'Challa bails on the vehicle, pulling Mr. Little into the water. Mr. Little is upset because he almost lost his monicle. Then the Sammurai release the Krakken - I mean the Yeti. T'Challa actually comes up with the plan that saves the day. Granted, the plan was "act as bait until Mr. Little pushes a big rock on it, but it works." The issue ends with a Sammurai confronting them and telling him that he's going to kill them.
I like the T'Challa is over everyone's bullshit. He's known as Happy Pants Panther, but there's nothing happy about him here. He's got a strong moral compass and actually contributes to the story. On the other hand, the lack of over the top wackiness made this story feel a bit dull. I also really didn't like the entire premise of why T'Challa is doing this.

fair enough. I don't think I was speaking about you directly. Someone did mention Kirby was the worse BP writer I believe (correct me if I'm wrong), I will go double check.
I guess I agree with this for the most part. Kirby's run was kind of trippy so I pretty much ignore it, but I just give him credit for that initial Fantastic Four appearance and the creation of the character. I appreciate these synopses, almost feel like going back and reading this issues...almost.
with all these recaps by m. murdock, i am starting to see where the humorous panther came from in 'enemy of the state 2'. i just read the story of when zanda is first introduced in the enemy of the state, where she is working in a chicken fast food establishment. when zanda says to one of the customers, "be careful the fries are very hot. come again cretins", i laughed out loud! that line is so funny. i love that priest brought back some of the old characters from the kirby run /rather that run was good or not/. great writer!
also, big thank you to m. murdock for another post on the old panther books, and to rob reed for the music breakdown /makes you want to re-watch the film tonight and re-listen to the score/, and lastly to dboi, for the wonderful art he shared. :D just learned to make those smile faces by the way.

It was me.
His initial f4 issues were good.but how much was thst kirby or lee?
The frog arc is horrid. Jakarea arc is horrible.
I forget the kiber arc.
Bleh. Roy is likeky the worst but kirby is down there
In order to understand Kirby's work, you really need to remember three things:
1. Jack wasn't a fan of comics. After all, he was born in 1917. Comics didn't EXIST when he was growing up. To him, drawing comics was his job, and he took titles not because of a love for the characters, but because he had an idea of what to do with them. Basically, he was more like Priest than Hudlin.
2. That being said, Jack had one of the (if not THE) greatest imaginations in comics. His art raised the bar in dynamism, he created literally HUNDREDS of characters, and worked in pretty much every genre in the medium (he even helped invent romance comics!)
3. OTOH, Jack wrote some of the worst dialogue I've ever read. For every "tiger force at the heart of creation" there was a “Me, young but cool, Harvey Lockman!". And the less said about Flippa Dippa the better. ;)
So yes. Fantastic artist, tremendous plotter... not the greatest scripter.

It always surprises me how well Killmonger seems to do one on one against T'Challa in the comics. With the suit and the herb it shouldn't even be a fair fight.
