Watch me work. Lol
He has multiple wives and girlfriends, but trains the wives as elite warriors. They build up a reputation as the finest warriors in Wakanda.
After he dies(because he it too cool to retire. I see him dying fighting Apocalypse and his horseman) the tribal council gives these wives the title of Dora.
Future Kings and villages can use this system if all parties agree.

I don't know if anyone has said this yet but I'd like to see W'kabi become the "Hunter" of MCU. While I didnt like the origin of Hunter (White Wolf) in the comics, I really enjoyed the extreme loyalist that he represented. W'kabi and the rogue border tribe members can easily become the new Hatut Zeraze who have been exiled from Wakanda. Thoughts?

Avengers 4 speculation:
IW war spoilers
[spoil] With T'Challa dead, I keep hearing that Shuri will be the next Black Panther. Yet I'm sitting here wondering how? The heart shaped herb is all gone. It would be cool to see T'Challa be the one to bring all the heroes back. Since they all died on Wakanda soil, there's a chance he could make a deal with Bast or something since there is no Black Panther defending Wakanda at the moment.[/spoil]

It is people who googled shuri and saw she was queen once.
It makes zero sense in the mcu. She just isnt there maturity wise. Shes a kid.
No way mbaku would stand for it, let alone the other tribes.
I doubt it gets touched upon. There is gonna be quantum realm shenanigans

[spoil] If M'Baku gets crowned king in Avengers 4. T'Challa comes back but M'Baku wants to remain king [/spoil]
Even if M'Baku went for it how would it happen? He can't challenge T'Challa anymore as there are no more heart shaped herbs around, so if T'Challa were to strip away his powers there would be no more BP's to protect Wakanda.
Cooglar has an interesting route to take the sequel

Yeah, it's strange people still think Shuri could be queen when BP's movie went above and beyond to show us that she wasn't there yet. Maybe in an MCU reboot or some universe changing shenanigans, but there's no indication that this Shuri is able to be queen. People were literally shocked at the ceremony when she rose her hand seemingly to challenge T'Challa at Warrior Falls. When Ramonda had misgivings about giving M'Baku the heart-shaped herb, she asked Nakia when Shuri was right there.
That alone confirms that it takes more than blood to earn the right to the kingship, and that personal combat skills are highly valued when becoming ruler. We did get a few scenes at the final battle of Shuri using a spear, which indicates she has some of those skills, but it's obvious that her role as the chief tech developer is what she's going to be used for in the franchise. Hell, I expect her to go down the Griot path (which would be cool) before they push her into the role of Black Panther. And that's perfectly fine and makes perfect sense considering Coogler probably didn't wanna give audiences the impression that she's T'Challa 2.0 by making her an incredible warrior with a stern personality. She has a clearly defined role and excelled in it, becoming the breakout character of the entire movie.
If anyone is going to rule Wakanda in T'Challa's absence it's either M'Baku or the council with emergency powers.

[spoil] Given how Infinity War ended, I think Wakanda (and the rest of the world for that matter) would be thrown into enough of a crisis that any sort of existing protocals would likely be tossed aside so that strong leadership could be established as quickly as possible. If we assume literally half the Wakandan government vanished, then whatever is left might simply say screw rituals, and stick M'Baku on the thrown at least in the short term to try and stabilize things. [/spoil]

Yeah, I doubt Wakanda (or anyone) has many contengency plans in the constitution for [spoil]"Purple Thumb uses magic dwarf weapon + magical stones to eliminate half the universe" [/spoil] lol

Appendix 19, section 90, paragraph j, right after "deranged dwarf uses time-traveling frogs to cause mischief".
Unfortunately, they weren't able to find enough peanut butter in time. Shipping problems in Singapore.

Plus anyway, what really happened was Nakia married T'challa in the two years between BP and IW and is now queen of Wakanda

[spoil]Half of everything is gone the Tribal Advisors, the Dora, the Gorilla Tribe...everything. Assuming Ramonda escaped being dusted the throne would fall to her. If she did get dusted then it's M'baku. They've been raptured by a Crazy Space Absolutist. They have to keep it simple in the face of what would very likely be utter chaos.
And out of all the Black Hollywood A-Listers that the Black Panther movie had on offer, Angela Basset got the least to do. So if she got more to do in BP2 it would be nice.[/spoil]

True.
With W'kabi potentially sidelined, there is more room.
I'll be curious if the BP supporting cast get any sort of arc in BP2. In the first one, only T'challa got any arc at all... which makes sense because he is the lead and you had to introduce everyone else (a HUGE cast) + introduce Wakanda.
In The Winter Soldier, Widow and you could say Fury got mini arcs. Widow went from spy to hero essentially and Fury went from THE spy to well... losing everything lol.
So I will be curious if any of BP cast changes.

I honestly don't expect the Wakandan situation to be a big part of A4. All the signs point to it focusing on the originals and some sort of time-travel plot (probably involving Young Avengers from the future).
And given that one of the other dusted heroes already has a sequel announced, I fully expect to see T'Challa back on the throne by the end of the film.

Oh, and a random spoilery thought:
[SPOIL] If Strange gets the Time Stone back at the end, couldn't they use it to restore the HSH gardens?[/SPOIL]
