I think it’s inevitable the force push will be in there in some shape or form. But hopefully he’ll also have the energy daggers and Kotd powers.
Coates said he didn't even know the ending of Secret Wars when he first wrote his script, so I don't think he necessarily would have thought to go this direction right out of the gate. It's possible had he known Hickmans ending he might have gone in this direction earlier.
THat aside, I think there was some logistical house cleaning he probably wanted to do first before doing a story which completely seperates T'Challa from his established status quo. Probably wanted to bring Shuri back (again he did't know Hickmans ending when he started writing the first season), probably wanted to re-build his supporting cast. And obviously he wanted to reunite T'Challa with Storm, who seemingly is playing a role in this story even though she's not physically present. She's his emotional anchor, or however you want to look at it.
Either way, I think the timing is descent as far as acting as a new jumping on point for people who may want to check it out after seeing the BP movie or Infinity War. No pre-existing knowledge is really necessary for this story, since it's starting off as sort of a blank slate. It's confusing, but it's confusing by design because it's a mystery.
None of what you mentioned would be needed. Not one thing.
Storm was the last person he visited prior to thinking the world was ending. That's reason enough to have her in the flash backs. The house cleaning was done, and he really hasn't added much to Wakanda, just to Storm.
It was two years of bullsh#t.
Plus, as you said this requires no knowledge, so by that acknowledgement nothing in the two years prior is all that relevant. This is a completely new cast.
E3 is coming soon. June 11th and Square Enix's Avengers game is gonna be there. There's a good chance Black panther will be in the game. What's some things you'd like to see done with him? Like how he plays, the design of the suit or abilities?
Basically I want T'challa to play like Ryu in reboot Ninja Gaiden.

I definitely think a bit of house cleaning needed to be done. Getting Shuri back was necessary, and in the least getting Storm back was a priority to Coates.
Plus Time Runs Out left a lot of potentially unresolved dram a on the table because of what T'Challa and Wakanda went through. Again, that could have in theory been hand waved away by Hickmans ending, but he didn't know it.
I would much prefer T'Challa to have his own title than to be in an Avengers video game due to the fact that even if he was in the game, he would likely be overshadowed by other heroes despite his movie making a huge amount of money so I have no expectations .

He should have his own game. He also will not get overshadowed.

I'm a little surprised they haven't been making more video games for the marvel characters given how successful the movies have been. I recall they did give all the phase 1 games their own games but after that it was mostly app games apart from the Lego and Capcom stuff.
But it sounds like that's changing. Spider-Man at least is getting a game. Maybe more will follow.

Daggers as projectile
Weave armor for force pysh abilities that u can strategically buiild up and use
Acrobatic movements
Claws to cut stuff
Keep it simple

Though we're only 1 issue in this story arc, can't help but wonder if this wouldn't actually make for a a descent premise for a video game
The story almost sounds like a video game plot, where the protagonist starts off in a dungeoun without his memory.
As for this issue the I'm not sure Coates ever liked the original concept of Black Panther or Wakanda, from what I've read of his articles and his prior comics that seems to be the case...He really isn't a fan of championing monarchies, empires, kingdoms or nobility. I understand that especially when you're applying real world rationale and analogies to it, but his narratives don't jive with the prior canon to me. This feels more like the story he wanted to write. An underdog story, because everyone loves an underdog story.
All the more reason why he should have never applied for the job and/or the BP/Avengers editors should have never hired him in the first place.
After everything T'Challa and Wakanda have been through since the shytery that was DW, how could they have agreed to the further destruction and deconstruction (with additional revisionist bull-crap, to salt the wound) of what was initially and purposely conceptualised to be uplifting, inpirational and purely original (within the context of the MU back then)?

Except the appeal of a Black Panther game would be to explore Wakanda and fight against BP villains and such.

Exactly.
Daggers - medium/long range
Force push close combat/medium range tactical attack
Claws close range.

Of course this is the larger appeal. I've seen BP get the most mentions on a popular video game forum asking what marvel game people would like to see, with their reasons being that they wanted to play as him, explore wakanda and that everything about him lends himself to being a video game character in multiple genres (character action, ubisoft-like open world, kingdom building simulator). I will say the relaunch premise does seem like it could also be a video game (parts of it reminded me of mass effect).
Edit - removed the link because I think the thread had god of war spoilers.
Except the appeal of a Black Panther game would be to explore Wakanda and fight against BP villains and such.
Good point. This makes for a potentially good Black Panther story, but not necessarily a good Wakanda story.
For better or for worse, I think the setting and supporting cast are becoming almost as important to the franchise as the main character.

It was really bizarre. This was around the time the civil war movie was coming out and after secret wars. With the increased exposure, marvel editorial decided that was the best direction to take T'Challa? "A nation under our feet" reads like it was written by someone who despised T'Challa and Wakanda. Whenever I try rereading it, I always tap out at the "board meeting of tyrants".

Yeah, I was thinking the premise sort of reminded me of a Bio Ware PPG of some sort.
But yeah... the point about not being able to explore Wakanda is absolutely right. So it probably wouldn't be a good idea.

That's because it is generic as hell lol
If a video game is produced I hope it has lots of costume options as well as a wide array of power stunts and gadgets to use. There should be lots of stealth challenges as well as combat missions.

Exactly, of marvel was smart. They would of went with Evans Rise of the black panther. Could you imagine the level of appeal that would of garnered of that was the Solo? New reader's would have a jumping on point. Coates S1 just jumps in and is extremely new reader unfriendly because how it's written its like your come in to the middle of the story, even for long time fans.
Rise would of been a million times better. Hell it would of benefitted more if it were the first spin off as well instead of God awful BP WoW
Basically A BP game should be like Arkham City meets Ninja gaiden and Halo (specifically for the vehicles)
Anybody read Mystery in Madripoor? There is a flashback scene to Logans' early days at the mansion. Storm gives him a panther head totem to make him feel like family. Giving up the panther for Logan in the early days. lol

Just watch. Panther is going to come back from space, and "the goddess of Wakanda" is going to have Logan all up in the kings house, eating his food, wearing his bathrobe, talking about, "Well you were gone for 2 weeks..."
I see this whole space opera ending in a wack as hell version of "Contagious/Down Low".

Going to be like that scene in Baby Boy. Logan standing in the kitchen naked drinking the last of the Kool-Aid.

I saw this I thought it was nice that xoffices are reaffirming her ties to tchalla. all this synergy I believe is due to the impending fox/disney deal. I'm totally here for it.

Which is why I’m hoping T’Challa falls in love with Nakia. It’s way past time for Storm to know what that shit feels like.

tchalla would never. she knows the pain of heartbreak. dont forget he broke her heart when he annulled the marriage.
also ororo is the only thing he could remember after his mind was completely wiped. she is home so he will never betray that.

That is totally a re-gift though? For it to mean something to her, it must have come from Tchalla, then she gives to someone she has only known for a few week at that point? Chaos Reigns might be right on this relationship. lol

what evidence is there that tchalla vave this to ororo? she could have very well picked that off somewhere which whereabouts we dont know (ie she saw it at a store or got it from someone with ties to wakanda). and she kept it because it reminded her of him.
and absolutely false lol. if my fellow friend chaos was right we wouldn't be seeing this now:

There is none. But what would your mind go to when seeing something like that. If it was just something she owned or picked up in a store, it should be from Kenya.
But based on your response, if Tchalla did give that as a token of his affections, it would be wrong to re-gift it?
Going to be like that scene in Baby Boy. Logan standing in the kitchen naked drinking the last of the Kool-Aid.
To which I would expect Tchalla to stab him through the chest and decapitate him, followed by kicking storms ass to the curb with her headless troll with her. With the new Nakia coming in to be the real queen
I don't think the trinket was anything malicious. X office has been treating him well so far.
I don't think the trinket was anything malicious. X office has been treating him well so far.
exactly. I am cautious about the next issue of MiM especially with the cover but I completely agree the xoffices so far have been surprisingly respectful of ororo and tchalla (outside of gold).

no I was saying she perhaps got something after their travels together that reminded her of tchalla. Panthers arent restricted to only wakanda. so I'm not necessarily seeing it as a regift.
and do I see it as wrong. not necessarily. giving something that she treasured to someone who didnt trust her was a sign of good faith. she opening up to him in such a fashion was done so that he would potentially return the favor.
Let's talk "world building", shall we?
As mentioned before, the supposedly 2,000 year old Wakandan Empire uses a surprising amount of names from the late 20th century, but not every name comes from the comics. So, Coates must have come up with the other names himself, right?
Wrong. Almost every other name comes from European history, as related to the slave trade.

The only one I'm not sure of yet is Daoud, the "King-Mule". But it would not shock me if he's a reference to historical slavery as well,
One wonders why Wakandans use so many terms from French/Caribbean history, and not ONE word from an African language....
In short, I was wrong. This isn't a generic sci-fi slave story…
It's a freakin' ALLEGORY. :P

Yeah, but none of the historical Daouds really line up. The best I've found is Dawud of Kanem, but even that's iffy.

Dang BoG coming in with the knowledge as usual... Makes this story even more insulting now. I mean first two seasons he was using analogues.. now he is straight up going fully on the nose not even pretending now.. I guess this is his dream story to have T'Challa topple the slave trade... Unfortunately it's Wakanda that Is going to get tarnished for it and take the hit..
So now we have stereotypical Africa in S1
Pilgrim analog in S2
Now European slave trade in S3...
Coates Wakanda sure looks different from the positive MCU version..
