Ultimately people will treat Black Panther/T'Chadwick like they do Lebron James... even the most racist redneck from Ohio will tune in to watch him play and buy his jersey for his little junior... because finding A-list black stars to be entertaining has never been a problem for the average American. That's more so a hollywood corporation thing because you can't make a blonde haired blue eyed white guy a better or more popular basketball player than Kobe Bryant.. but you can if it's a fictional story where you can rewrite Kobe from being the black mamba to being the black centipede.
But even if you get past that aspect of restricting black portrayal in one avenue... it'll pretty much just make T'Chadwick equivalent to a star black celebrity in sports or music, which wouldn't do any good for the next Trayvon in a hoodie...
But with that said, I still see where Ezyo is coming from. Because if BP succeeds, it opens up more opportunities for more black heroes. T'Challa (box office), Luke Cage (Netflix) and Miles Morales (animation) are new age pioneers in that regard. Making Wesley Snipes proud as one of the og pioneers of black super-heroic excellence on film
It'll be quite funny when BP really succeeds and Chadwick Boseman looks back at Gods of Egypt.
Well the DCEU doesn't have Extended in its name for nothing :)
I feel like you're the first person to make this joke lmao
I think they will be fine. BP is one of those mythos that can support many different types of of story telling. They knocked it out with Magic in Strange and that was something new. So i think they will be fine in making a political thriller. Hell WS had some political thriller themes cleverly mixed in so i think they aren't necessarily entering completely uncharted territory
Exactly. TWS brilliantly tackled the issue of drone warfare and security in America and it was done subtly. I love that Marvel Studios can weave in sub-genres and themes pretty well in most of their movies like TDK trilogy did. I think we'll definitely get the same treatment in Black Panther as a "geopolitical adventure/thriller". Things can go wrong of course but I think this means a lot to Coogler and Chadwick in a way BP doesn't mean to Coates.
Coogler's dad is still alive. He just got very sick
Oh that's good. Thought he lost him. My bad.
They did it for GOTG, Thor Ragnarok & Spider-Man homecoming which is strange that they didn't do it for bp
The Doctor Strange Blu-ray comes out in a few weeks and it's supposed to have a phase 3 exclusive look with some Black Panther stuff, so they may have saved the concept art for that.
Where did all this concern about race come from in relation to the BP movie?
From the fact that it might not do well at the box office (which I think won't happen) due to the predominantly black cast and all

Are you really going to do this AGAIN??
Leading up to Civil War you were constantly worrying about how T'Challa was going to be portrayed and you were nitpicking every bit of info behind the scenes footage that came out. Turned out that all that worrying and nitpicking was for nothing, T'Challa was great and was seen as one of the highlights of the film and legit show stealer.
At this point Marvel should have earned a little bit of trust from you so that you're not constantly asking why certain news isn't breaking and acting as if it's a sign of trouble.
Marvel Studios has assembled one of the best casts we've ever seen for a comic book film, hired a critically acclaimed director, writer, and crew, placed the film as a direct lead in to the biggest comic book movie ever made, and we've already seen from the Civil War Merchandise that they're willing to put heavy promotional dollars behind Black Panther.
Like seriously, do you want Kevin Feige to personally call you and give you weekly updates for the film? Just chill man, enjoy the slow stream of news that's going to come out and have faith (which Marvel studios has earned) that the movie will be great.
Honestly, those movies were booty-o's. I'm a huge DC head too. It broke my damn heart.
Suicide Squad was a cool concept. If it was successful then it would open the Door for Villain movies making a rise. But it was done so poorly that Not even Smith, Robbie or davis could salvage that steaming pile. Again, awesome concept, poor execution.

I think it really all comes down to marketing. Most all black cast movies that don't really perform well either have poor marketing, or are marketed as "race-themed" which most people other than black people don't care for.
Black Panther will certainly not be marketed that way since it's not about race relations or whatever. It's going to marketed like every other action/superhero blockbuster. I mean, the movie is about an African king of a highly technologically advanced, isolationist, cat god-worshipping, warrior nation who runs and jumps around in a bulletproof ninja cat suit kicking ass with his two badass bodyguards trying to protect his throne from enemies with the help of the CIA. If that doesn't sound awesome, I don't know what else is lol

Like I said in response to Maj, Im not worried just curious as to why they didn't do that for BP which is a property that is not really well known worldwide
But hey, the Marvel heads know what they are doing so we will leave it at that. After all he will be headlining the avengers cartoon next season which is a good thing

At least its a good thing that we don't have Ike Perlmutter attached to this movie as he is close to Trump which could mean bad publicity for the movie especially since anyone in relation to trump is automatically looked down upon.

One has the right to be cautious, but worrying about commercial and critical success with Marvel Studios is a bit unnecessary at this point. I'm sure BP will do very well in those aspects. Hell, DS managed to pass 500 million worldwide despite all the controversy surrounding Tilda Swinton's casting.
I am cautious about if I will like the movie as fan, than about critical acclaim. Those are two very different things, as evidenced by Coates.

Yes. This is an entirely new ballgame with what they are doing. Lots of political intrigue with superhero clashing as well. We are also gonna see next level tech (hopefully) and really showcase why Wakanda is not to be F'ed with.
Yes I also agree that Coogler, Cole, and T'Chadwick actually care very deeply about Raising Bp to new levels.
Coates just uses BP as a platform to spread his bias agenda and pessimism into an Afro-futuristic mythos and its hurting it not helping.

Chadwick and the chick that plays Electra sure did upgrade their fictional character standards after the Egypt film lol.
I never saw the film but I heard those two were the best things about it tho... which was ironic since they also apparently were the only two "egyptians" with a noticeable tan
not derail thread but totally agree with first point.
the Obamas resumes were impeccable but they were never good enough. Trump comes into office and now everyone's like give him a chance even though he has had many wives , his wife posed nude, and he's flip flopped on so many issues. Imagine if the Obamas looked like the trumps do on paper...
that aside I am excited 4 the movie I am sure it will do well.
Bro, are you serious?
Both Suicide Squad and BvS broke their respective box offices so how does that qualify as failure in your eyes?
You do know that there are plans for solo Harley Quinn and Deadshot movies right?
