We won't know if Hickman has T'Challa two steps ahead until Hickman is done with the story. My guess is he doesn't have T'Challa trolling Namor because T'Challa doesn't want to throw down right now. The earth apparently needs Namor and so, therefore does T'Challa. Just from the dialogue between the two characters you can tell Namor is ready to go. T'Challa is not. I am sure he is prepared for Namor, just not willing to throw down yet because as distasteful as it is to think, Namor is an asset right now.
As far as why T'Challa didn't prep better for the Great Society I don't know. Maybe he did and it will be shown next issue. Course it seems he maybe should have prepped for Strange as well.
I don't think the "mirror" gave T'Challa enough information to deal with the great society. It gave a view of incursions but not what happened before. if they knew the Doctor Fate analogue was a fake from the beginning the whole battle could have been quick but that is not something you could see with the limited info the mirror gave.
the challenge with T'Challa and by extension the illuminati in NA is dealing with the unknown
That is a very long story. Let's just say that it didn't get the backing it deserved from Marvel editorial.
This is the REAL answer right here. And they weren't the only couple that Marvel editorial broke up...

Ultimately that's the problem with incursions... it puts them on the clock. They were looking at 2 hours into the future. That's not a whole lot of time to prep for anything, and he spent a portion of the time he did have communicating with the past panthers.
Beyond having a general idea of what each member of the Great Society could do (which likely dictated which member of the Illuminati they attempted to pair off with), there's only so much T'Challa could do to prepare for the fight. He did have his force field and his energy daggers (which aren't things he's been shown to regularly use for the most part) so in the least he was prepared for the fight. But again, in the 2 hour window they had, there's only so much he could do.

What odes that book have to do with NA??
-
Clearly that is fan art. Real BP would use his epic backhand.
Also, was one of the Ghost Panthers a barber who is giving T'challa skill with a razor? T'challa is keeping a pretty tight fade for an exile, and I don't think Shuri gives him furlough to get a shape up.

I guess this is what Namor gets for acting like a petulant child and starting a pointless battle with the great society amongst other things....
One of the huge problems with the Black Panther franchise is that most writers have a limited knowledge of Africa or have very little contact or associations with anyone from that great continent as reference points!
Considering Wakanda isn't really like real-world Africa, and tends to disassociate itself from the rest of the continent, I'm not really convinced that an extensive knowledge of Africa is necessary for writing a good Black Panther.

He had it coming.
In the newest Avengers Franklin only mention ironman, Black Panther, and his father continue to prevent incursions.

I think this is the Original Sin tie-in. This is going to be because of the Thanos stuff.

Actually, Wakanda does indeed have A LOT of real-world african influence, with Kirby/sci-fi and fantasy, thrown in--but a lot of things are indeed based on African institutions.
I agree that you don't need extensive knowledge, but you need to have a willingness to understand things and also study, research and learn. Otherwise, this is how you end up with offensive, stereotypical crap that turns people of African descent off.

It really added some verisimilitude to Priest's run, making it very unique compared to the rest.
