Yeah the King of the Dead thing did not go how I was expecting at all. I mean at first I had a lot of questions like "why is she doing this now?" From a meta-fictional standpoint the story hasn't been written yet but there doesn't seem to be any reason in-universe why you wouldn't give that power to T'challa the moment he becomes black panther, or Bashenga himself for that matter. I also never got why he was bonded with Reed as opposed to Shuri or any Wakandan since that at least promises some guarantee that they'll hold the safety of Wakanda in top priority (besides the fact that this occurred in an issue of FF). But now I want to know if this was Bast's endgame. Or if that giant humanoid cat lady was real and not some magical projection or something which would mean Bast choice not to manifest while the cabal was running buck wild
For someone like Hickman where everythign is a seed and a plant for future stories... this is a collosol failure so far. The connection to Reed hasn't been explored at all. His KOD powers haven't been explored at all. Bast roll in this hasn't been explored at all.
The whole issue F4 issue were just a bad way to give T'challa back his "black panther" title back.

I think "so far" is the key word. In a run where even the death of the Living Tribunal (and why it seemingly happened so early) and Manifold's powers are getting outright explained, I seriously doubt the stuff that actually started this storyline is never going to get explored.
Waiting hasn't been working out lately when it comes to Black Panther, but unless Hickman lost the plot entirely (and so far he hasn't), I really don't think this stuff is going to be ignored. Especially not by the end of Secret Wars.

Shuri was not going to be much use against a multiversal threat that beats up space demigods.
You could argue that Bast should have chosen Future Franklin or Val (given what we know now) to bond with T'Challa, but all Shuri could have done was go down with
the sinking ship that is 616 Earth.
And Bast is more concerned with Total Unversal Destruction than the welfare on Wakanda per se. If Earth is destroyed Wakanda isn't going to be an issue anymore. At least this way there are going to be at least one Wakandan on the space ark.

Good on Mackie for stressing the importance of BP.

How hard is this...
http://www.nfl.com/combine/workouts
You find out how fast, how strong and how athletic someone is and then you measure those stats for further evaluation against other competitors!
Either the guy can play quarterback or he can't at the next level... It's that simple!
Comics boil down to powers and skill sets and The King of The Dead addition still has not been fleshed out for full blown cosplay at Comic-con after all these issues!
I don't get why the Black Panther is such a chore to define his stats and place them on a baseball card like all the other characters have!
At this point you might as well go back to the heart shaped herb and capture that Popeye's spinach market for them Disney soccer moms who want their kids to eat their vegetables and use Black Panther as the excuse for healthier dining!
The Batcave... OOPS I mean Necropolis is now officially utterly useless as a sanctuary so send that back with Bast and all that Egyptian sub division deity canon that goes no where!
There are too many moving parts for this comic book based character and things need to be narrowed down to essential specifics... Trim the fat and make money for a change!
King of The Dead 40 Yard Dash - 1.2 seconds hand timed 11.5 seconds while holding Reed Richards hand and staring at Bast for approval
King of The Dead Bench Press - 100 tons with a vibranium bench shirt on 2 pounds while Shuri is tickling his feet
King of The Dead Vertical Jump - Limitless while wearing zero gravity "Shadow Physics" boots absolute zero while Malice has him chained in a secret dungeon forcing his hand in marriage... Or is that Princess Zonda pick one and keep it moving GEEZ
King of The Dead Broad Jump - Broads jump for him because gosh dang darnit doo hickey he is the FRAKKING Black Panther and most eligible bachelor like ever!
King of The Dead 3 Cone Drill - Really bruh???
King of The Dead Shuttle Run - He invented the original quinjet... He is the shuttle run master end of
Cary on...

Makes sense. It's still 3 years off.

A little disappointing it's only a tiny part in the film, but that's to be expected, I guess. Not surprised about the not knowing. I figured he wasn't showing up in Civil War, and Mackie found out that he made the cut in Avengers: Age of Ultron when the poster came out and a friend called.

See Mackie's comments about not knowing about being in Avengers
Marvel isn't goign to tell him something 3 years off. They will just make him sign that iron clad multi picture deal and move on.
OR he is just being coy. Marvel doesn't like spoilers.
No way to pay Andy Serkis anything to randomly play a BP arch villain in a movie for only 5 minutes. Impossible

While we're still (kind of) on the subject, did Shuri ever know about bast being in the necropolis or her prophecy? I don't remember her mentioning it but I also can't think of a reason T'challa wouldn't bring it up

I still wish we knew how T'chall and Shuri reconciled.
I thought we would get a lot more filled in from the time jump but... nope

I'll have to re-check that, but I'm don't think she knew specifically about Bast being around (Bast has quite a bit to answer for, like why she could tell what was going to happen before the rest of the gods).
As for telling Shuri, I've gotta ask: how well does it normally go when someone goes soothsayer to a ruler metafictionally speaking? That, much like having Shuri involved in the Illuminati, wouldn't have helped matters much.
It probably would have made things worse for Shuri (take the Dora's reaction to T'Challa housing Namor, and extend that to the whole country against Shuri AND T'Challa. It'd be Christmas for any usurper, which Wakanda does not have a short supply of), and/or the Illuminati (Shuri trying to oust Namor immediately, distracting the already incompetent Illuminati even more with the Atlantis/Wakanda stuff).
I'm not saying everything that has happened so far is completely in character, or even necessary in some cases, but I at least get some of the internal logic.

Well that's the funny thing about comics books it that in the end characters occupy a spectrum of plausibility personality wise as opposed to being whole human entities that would definitely do certain things (in most cases). Weather you're willing to believe them is more a matter of personal preference assuming there's no in story explanation and even then that may not be enough. I could imagine T'challa not telling, telling some stuff, or telling everything all for different reasons that I could justify by what I think T'challa's personalitie(s) are usually like. I could also imagine Several of Shuri's responses depending on when she's told. which rang from moving the cabal to the sea lion (that research station in the middle of the south Atlantic) to just banishing him anyway. (How she'll explain that to her mom I couldn't tell you, but she hasn't been around since doomwar so it's moot.) Though when I asked that question I forgot to mention that I was talking about in the interim between That king of the dead FF issue and the first issue of the New Avengers. Like I don't see what he would gain by not at least mentioning it since at that point he had nothing to hide.

Interesting! Wonder if this means he'll have superhuman senses in the MCU. You guys think they'd go the magic/Heart-Shaped Herb route or tech (like lenses for night vision)?
