Decided to jump the gun and go digital for #11. Just did a quick read.
-Action was slightly better than other issues, but it def not as good as it needed to be. Def a weak point of this issue.
-Static panels were great.
-The writing overall was very good. No pacing issues here.
-Best portrayal of T'Challa in this entire run without a doubt, imho. Solid portrayals of Shuri, Akili, Eden, Changamire, Tetu and Zenzi.
-But above all, the highlight of this issue was...
[spoil]The cameos that showed up towards the end of the issue.[/spoil]
This issue isn't the best overall issue of this run, IMHO. #10 has that down. And the sub-par action scenes definitely drags down this issue down a notch.
However, this issue will probably be my favorite issue of this run.
Will give further thoughts after rereading this issue later on.

Well, that was a crap ending.
[SPOIL]
You know all that technology Priest used when he had Panther invade the Jabari lands? Not used.
The technology visible (temporarily) when the Skrulls invaded? Not used.
Anything more complex than a grenade launcher? Not used.
So, how was the rebellion crushed? By pulling a Hickman, and having T'Challa pull a new power out of his ass:
Letting the rebels into the capital, and then raising the spirits of Necropolis to fight, a la LOTR. And before you say it was part of his "King of the Dead" powers (which hadn't been mentioned all series, I might add), he needed Eden to "open the gate").
T'Challa barely did anything for himself all issue. Hell, I don't think he even farce pushed anyone. For that matter, after the scene in the preview, Shuri basically just pontificated.
Meanwhile, Tetu pulled a new power out of his ass as well, which only served to make the HZ look ineffective (not like they needed any help doing that), and Zenz (who also demonstrated a never-before-seen power)i was defeated by a weepy Changamire, because somehow HIS words are more convincing than anyone else's. (Grandpa Sue, anyone?).
Furthermore, there is literally NO reason for the monarchy to step down after this, except "we had grown haughty & blind". The vaunted rebellion, even Zenzi-controlled, amounted to maybe a couple dozen people on panel. They could have been suppressed by a competent REAL military, instead of the near-cowards who shrieked "they are too many!" when their opponents were unarmored and were carrying spears.
Seriously. SPEARS. Not even sciency spears. Just blades on sticks.
This was a bad ending to a bad story, and the ending panel (with Shuri sitting down with the MA) makes even less sense.
[/SPOIL]
Confidence in season 2? Dropping like a rock.

[QUOTE=HUTHAIFA;2620169]It's comics 101. The good guy whoops the heel's tuckus. The villain falls off the cliff, and doesn't get seen until the next time he needs to get his butt kicked.
Also can someone explain why wasn't Kingpin left in some Wakandan prison on unnamed island with lacks torture laws.
I know I know Kiss is the best thing since Priest.
Just playing.
Maeberry is really the only panther writer that I never want to see write the character again.
I may disagree with a direction, but if you give me a solid script then I am good.
But honestly
3 comics
A movie
Toys
Apparel
Cartoons
Video games
Good time to be a fan.
Can't forget that other fans don't even get half of that for their favorites[/QUOTE]
Honestly I never imagined T'Challa would get this big. If he could even get a solo book or a spot on the Avengers again, I would have been happy when I was younger. But movies an d cartoon and toys... you just don't see that coming from a character you begrudging came to accept as a C lister who showed up in the background every couples years in some book. But look at him now ... it's almost unbelievable. I think it's a VERY exciting time to be a BP fan. It's amazing how far the character has come in a relatively short period of time.

But I also agree here...
Lol.
Unfortunately, the two of the bigger problems of this run reared its ugly head again
1. Lack of scale for The People.
2. Poor action visuals, although they were slightly better and slightly more imaginative. Man, if Coates had an artist who had an eye for creating action (create is the big word as Coates isn't good at directing it) then this whole run could be so much better.
Imma hafta to sit on this for a bit. I think I lean more RDH than BOG but both had valid points. I didn't mind the plot device (as I have mentioned that is how it should work anyway back in the day) but Eden, in the end, was a net negative for this whole run unfortunately.
This issue should have been 2 issues...

I agree with this review .The ending wasn't totally bad but it could have been better. As much as I liked the slow pacing of the book caused sales to drop off more than they should. That's going to be an issue because once people tune out of a comic, they rarely tune back in. Moreover, one of the worst things Ta'nehasi probably could have done was stop being on twitter for this year. Like bro at least come back and tweet about the book the night before it's released and the day after, I definitely saw a real dip in sales after he stopped engaging the fan base, because Marvel hasn't been putting a lot of Marketing into his run after it was four or five issues in, and the BP hype from Civil War is more or less gone. So now going into Season 2 which I do think will be more T'challa centric and possibly have a bit more action, the writing may get better, but by that time sales are already at a inevitable decline. Moreover, if sales are low for the main BP book where is that about to leave BP & The crew? Unfortunately my prediction is Season 2 will be Coate's last arc on the book. My choice for a next BP writer? Although it would never happen, Aaron McGruder ! The action scenes in the boondocks were downright sickening, and I think he'd have a good enough grasp on Afro-centrism without compromising the action, while at the same time writing a very compelling story.

I wonder if this is a plot they'll consider for the movies down the line.
Can't help but think with a Disney marvel studios budget providing better visuals, the bones of this story finale would make for a pretty descent LOTR type climactic battle scene for BP 2 or 3 or whatever.

Disagreeing with me is fine. Right now, I'm still irritated by the sheer number of ass pulls in the story. :)

Im going with you.
[spoil]He teased a big military battle but what we got was a little scrimmage. If they had actually used the equipment shown at end of number 10 the battle should have gone differently. Dialogue and pacing were better. Happy to see the dead characters we've missed if only briefly. But all in all, a let down.[/spoil]

If this was the ending of issue 6... I think I would like this a lot more.
This battle has been building for 10 issues. When that happens, I expect something epic like Aaron's Gorr arc. Where you have a moment you are like, "YES! This is why I read comics!"
I read it and it was more like, "hm... this works."

You might be able to get it to work if you cut the story down to its bones (disenfranchised people mad at the king due to repeated destructions, follow a new leader to remove the crown. New leader kinda evil).

Given that T'Challa is actually ascending to the throne in his first movie, having him be deposed after a couple of years (the usual gap between movies) can only reflect poorly on the character.

For better or for worse, we probably got about what we should have expected.
We had a guy who I at least consider a pretty good writer, thus leading to some good solid dramatic build up t the final battle.
But if you've gut a guy who himself admits isn't good at action being paired with an artist whose action comes off fairly stiff (at least i this book... not super familiar with his other stuff), they're probably not ging to knock it competely out of the ball park. They'll get on base and maybe make a double... but that ball ain't going to be sailing over the wall and into the stands.
-
I am going to disagree about the prowler/tech stuff though.
Priest never used those things for anything other than a splash page and when Achebe had them turn on the city
Hudlin had the mole man mobile and then some fighter jets
SWaD purposefully removed all tech from the story after one page of laser shooting at ships.
Namor attacks and nothing
Atlantis and Wakanda go to war and its just foot soldiers with missiles doing the (effective) work.
Hickman had BD and his army invade and despite being prepped for war, we got a single remark about anti air guns and then hand to hand combat in a field.
The Prowlers and all the other fun tech have never been an important story piece. They have always been a background thing that looked cool and then when it comes down to it, conveniently disappear.
I would LOVE a story that was an all out war showcasing all of Wakanda's anti-invasion tech. But I am not going to fault Coates for not busting out prowlers and voltron.
I will fault Coates for continuing to make it look like the invasion was 25 people though

"foreshadowing (plural foreshadowings)
A literary device whereby an author drops subtle hints about plot developments to come later in the story. "
This is basic Writing 101 stuff. Coates failed at it utterly. He may be a decent essayist, but his fiction is amateurish at best.

That's fair... but the transition between the end of #10 and the beginning of this issue makes no sense, unless "a nation unleashed" means "a dozen soldiers who panic when the enemy gets close". :P
