I doubt Coates would be allowed to show Batman to be ineffective and suddenly start doubting himself and declare himself unfit to be Gotham's protector. DC Comics would not let their main white guy be mishandled in such a way. But when it comes to black male characters, well, you know...
Maybe. Maybe not. I mean, they let Frank Miller do exactly that to Superman who is a pop culture icon.

They also had him kiss Hal's ass

Superman and Batman have had almost non-stop positive portrayals going back for decades so the occasional deconstructive isn't as bad for them.
T'Challa on the otherhand, doesn't have this luxury.

Throw in a Black Manta and Red Lion villain team up.
I'm not so sure since he had no problems shitting all over MCU Panther, Priest is not one to hold his tongue on anyone or thing he likes or doesn't like with the lone exception going by past interviews being Sir Dwayne McDuffie
Nope. Priest isn't politically correct at all.
They need to do an online interview or something. Hell, I would love to see a Hudlin,Priest, and Coates roundtable.

Lol. Hudlin is very nice and tactful man. The man has been in entertainment for years. I have never not seen him being encouraging of young Black creators. Except McGruder, and that's a bit more complex matter.

Meanwhile Priest would just go all in on Hudlin since there might be resentment that Hudlin got what Priest wanted( and what he had almost outright ) in editorial backing 110%

You never know with Priest

Exactly. Priest got that Deathstroke in him:)
By the by. I can't give a higher recommendation than Deathstroke #11.
Priest
Cowan
Sienkiewicz
Just a beastly tale that ending hits like a hammer.

in writing anyway.
wasn't the coates praise when they were in the same round table at comicon?
i'll forever love Priest's panther, but his interviews come off as "grumpy old man, get off my lawn" syndrome with a dose of "it wasn't my fault" thrown in.
I figured Priest's deathstroke would finally be a DS story I like... i keep trying with deathstroke because a tthe surface he should be one of my favorite DC characters... but good lord, I shouldn't have to read 20 pages 3x to figure out wtf is going on. Not because of deep dialogue but jsut because its so chopped up and jumps all over the place I can't figure out what is what.
Book needs a Ross.
Red Lion means nothing to me. The thing about T'challa that makes him different is that he is pure good and honorable, not an anti hero or anti villain. If I wanted to read what would happen if a super technological advanced genius king wasn't a nice guy... well... id read Dr. Doom instead.

What exactly does Priest say in interviews that makes him come across as grumpy?

T'Challa can be an anti hero on occasion but not by that much.

Also, look what DC did to Hal Jordan back in the day. Not that Hal is as big a character as Superman, but they REALLY put Hal through the ringer.
Both Marvel and DC will deconstruct a character, if it's a story they believe it. Regardless of race or how big a character you are, I don't think any character is entirely immune from it. And you can do it, because comic book characters can pretty much come back from anything. If Hal can come back from all that stuff he did, anyone can.
