I'm arguing it hasn't done anything to deserve the platitudes it has gotten in this thread.
At all.
Everything about it is conjecture. Wild conjecture at that. You'd think it has been used to beat Doom or something.
All we know for sure is that it is a sharp blue pointy stick that appears out of nowhere, sometimes, that T'challa can throw.
It is the the "Thrice Blessed Armor" of this generation.
I think the platitude it's been given is reasonable enough. People are simply saying he's being given an option against mystical threats... granted there's a degree of conjecture there but it's not like anyone is suggesting he can one shot Shuns with it or anything like that. Again, it's just another option in the tool box he has to give him a more well rounded arsenal.
As I said earlier I do agree there is some level of redundancy with some of his gear ... but there are enough unique elements in the spear to justify it.
-
If by "degree of conjecture" you mean 100% conjecture then I agree completely.
It. Has. No. Feats.
nor an explanation. We are basing everything on the color. At least the Thrice Blessed Armor had a cool name and a brief explanation that described what it is to allow for conjecture.
This is literally a blue glowing spear that appeared one day.
I love fan theorying as much as everyone else but somewhere this fan theories turned into fan facts for no reason at all.
And until it does something the energy daggers can't do, it is a redundant blue spear.

Yes, I am using conjecture when I say that T'Challa threatening a BP force ghost with the spear is an indicator that it can effect spiritual/magical being like ghosts. I think it's reasonable conjecture ... but conjecture nonetheless. Fair enough?
-
I'm not saying the energy dagger doesn't necessarily have bigger feats ... what I'm saying is that it may have applications energy daggers don't. Ghosts don't have physical forms, so energy daggers might might not effect them.
It adds a purely magical element to his tools which he arguably has been lacking, so it rounds out his toolset a bit better.
And because it seems to be a innate ability rather than gear, he pretty much has access to it 24/7. He doesn't always have the daggers or the claws but he theoretically should always have the spear.
The shaper of worlds echo did not have a physical form either yet given a frequency adjustment, Tchalla bwas able to explode it just like Carol
That may be true ... nonetheless I still would argue there are advantages to having some options based on an actual ability rather than gear. If you don't see it that way, I guess we can agree to disagree. I just see it as another option in the tool box, something which has a couple unique elements to make it useful.
Like MoS said, there is no proof that Tchalla can summon it without the habit, until there is it is simply fanfiction

So the theory presented then is that T'Challa might require the habit to access certain abilities?
Hmm... interesting idea. I never thought about it, but yeah ... him using the spear and the soul tracker abilities were all in costume. Perhaps he didn't have these abilities prior to Coates run despite being king of the dead because Shuri at the time was wearing the official habit.
I suppose there's no way to know for sure unless he finds himself in a combat situation out of costume. But yeah ... I suppose there's a potential weakness there if a writer wants to go that route.
Though I suppose the theoretical upside to the habit having the abilities rather than TChalla himself is that he might be able to lend it to someone else if he had too.
It's an interesting idea to play with.

(To be fair, I don't think the spear is costume based. just showing the fallacy in assuming things that aren't on panel for no reason. it works both ways)

Oh, was that him actually using his powets to see what previously happened? I though he was just sort of imagining what previously happened.
Soul tracking having post cognition is pretty handy.
But again.. I don't think there's no reason to assume the spear can harm sprits, he threatened a spirit with it. It's conjecture ... but it's reasonable conjecture. IMO at least.

That's epic! I usually pick up the art books that they make for the MCU that I like.

I was thinking the same thing. the only way i can see this being the case that tchalla is lower is due to him being defeated by killmonger when his bp powers were removed.
