Not really. It's comics. People eat up deaux ex machina crap and easy outs. Mind control, or alt reality replacement, possession, ummmm, qualified therapist and treatment, cult following popularity for sexual chemistry and sticking to the man. C'mon. Lundy to the power of three for her and you may like it.

Sure you can use a deux ex machina to change the underage psychpathic murdere into an entirely different character that's actually capable of being a viable love interest. But if you essentially need to change her into an entirely different character, then maybe you might as well use an entirely different character.

Not really, a retcon takes care of it pretty easily, or do what Coates did with Aneka. Not a lot of work really

Let me rephrase then... it would take work to actually do it well.
Again, if you're going to just change her into an entirely different character, then you might as well use an entirely different character.

Tell that to Victor Von Doom alias Infamous Iron Man.

I agree with this wholeheartedly. The person the majority of people that want Nakia to have some kind of redemption arc so that it can be shipped without having a very toxic attachment to it, would be to essentially turn Nakia into someone she isn't to such a degree that she isn't Nakia anymore.
It makes me wonder if they really want T'Challa to be with Nakia.. or if they just want him to be with a viable Wakandan and Nakia just happens to be the one with a connection to him, albeit extremely toxic.
If you want to change comic Nakia so much that she isn't Nakia anymore then it isn't really Nakia you want to ship T'Challa with is it? You just want a Wakandan warrior.
if the dream is that Nakia is gonna get some kind of Doctor Doom special attention to fully redeem everything she's done across the past years of comic book history to completely revamp and reload her character. Then I've got some bad news for them....
However they can be happy that they'll get a much better established Nakia in the movie who will be with T'Challa at the very least for an extent of time depending on whether or not they go the Malice rout early or further down the line.
To be completely honest, Nakia as far as the rabbit hole she's fallen into in the comics is more likely to wind up with Killmonger than T'Challa at this point.

If being a Wakandan is the SOLE reason people find Nakia a viable love interent for T'CHalla in the comics then yeah... I have to believe in the entire nation of Wakanda there's a more suitable choice. Someone who isn't an underage psychotic murderer.
Malaika for example from BP volume 2. Not exactly the most exciting option, but at least she's somewhat believable.

Again Coates turned Aneka, who was the leader of the DM and like a mother figure to Tchalla, and deaged her kept her the leader of the DM and made her a lesbian.. So given that Nakia is essentially a blank slate, she can be aged up a bit, become part of the HZ or special rank in the DM, and be a former LI to Tchalla.. it's not some big Rabit hole, it's not difficult to do. Why? Because she hadn't had any development past Priest's run. Thats why Coates could retool Aneka, because she hadn't been used or developed since DW.. Priest run has been Longer then DW.
Goal posts at this point

Nakia.Hasnt.been.used.since.priest.run... all the history and such your claiming needs to be washed away, was a run nearly 20 years ago... So just like Coates retooled Aneka Because she hadn't been further developed. The same can be done to Nakia, the difference is that lupita is playing Nakia and will be able to get positive exposure to her with a nearly blank slate because she hasn't been used in almost 20 years. These excuses...

Not to mention this Nakia is Nakia in name only and is based on Malakia. So what’s stopping Marvel from bringing Malakia back and just doing something simple like having her nickname be Nakia? Bam. Problem solved.

I enjoy talking on this thread when there's positive stuff, and many of you can have an intellectual discussion. However, I'm really starting to consider not coming here anymore (even just to lurk lol) because it's quite obvious a certain side of this forum can't have nice things, and there's always some kind push back. I don't know if it's insecurity or something. It's just getting tiring at this point.
The BP movie is coming out soon and hopefully it's everything a lot of us dreamed of and have been asking for, and opens new doors for more opportunities for proper black representation in film, TV and comics, as well more Afrofuturism depicted accurately and positively.
I'm just tired of flashes of positivity in the pan that is this thread, only to be overwhelmed by negativity. We could actually be discussing this upcoming movie, it's potential arcs and themes, but noooo that's too positive for some of you and instead we have to argue about the obvious. This has been going on for months really and that's why I'm rarely here, but I think I'm gonna stop altogether.
See some of you at HEF hopefully.

That's your opinion.
I think most posters in favour of a possible romance between Nakia and T'Challa within the movie, have made it quite clearly abundant what they'd like to see and why.
Subsequently, the reference to Doom is also very clear and would be understood by any readers familiar with Marvel's penchant for "redeeming characters they feel like giving that spotlight to

I actually think the majority of the debates here are pretty level headed. There's no where near the amount of name calling and insults you find in some of the other controversial threads.
Thing about talking about the movie is that there's only so much you can say about a film that hasn't been released yet. We simply won't know much about the plot or how it's going to be received until it comes out.

I'll say again... it would take work to actually do it well. Magically aging characters up or down or whatever makes no sense. Yes, it's not difficult to do something that doesn't make sense but that doesn't mean a writer should actually do it.
