Why someone in their 20s have white hair?
Why someone in their 20s have white hair?
Assuming that is actually her hair, it was foreshadowed in issue #3. No concrete reason was given at the time.
Personally, I think it is a headpiece and her hair is under it.
EDIT: What really surprises me about her hair, assuming it is indeed that, is how long it is. It's much longer than before.

Ok I wish they would go back to the traditional pointed ear or "Batman" design of T'Challa's mask. Every pic of him now he looks like a damn martian or some mutant and not a panther which is what they're aiming for.

Found the lines and ink version of the BP:WoW variant by Khoi Pham. Pretty cool.

I actually like Stelfreeze's version tbh it koknd Cool. But at the moment I would say my current fav in Anad MU is tied between Stelfreeze and Rocaforts. I like Rocaforts because it isn't like Batman and gives a distinct Panther look While giving the face and habit detail. And I like Stelfreeze's because he uses the shadows to give detail which I think it very unique and cool

Some "long time fans" seem to be okay with Coates desecrations though.

Agreed, which is a bit of a surprise. Usually the colored version tends to stand above the ink version.
As for T'Challa's mask...few artists have been able to get the new version right. It's been quite hit or miss, imho.

(As for Shuri's new look: It may be ethnically appropriate, I don't know. But it's also impractical, over-designed, and a bit silly-looking.)
Some of the new artists for some reason decided to go with a old style villain look, the ones with the pointy white guy nose. They gotta use the movie as a reference. Or just go with Priest era

We just gonna ignore the cracks in the bast statue sigifying a slip of either both T'challa and Shuri from Bast or Shur from Bast.
More sledgehammers to the mythos.

It's a "Divided we Stand" variant cover, to coincide with the next Marvel event that will kick off around when BP: WoW #1 comes out. I doubt it'll symbolize anything of note as far as the BP-verse is concerned.

I feel T'Challa's head looks a bit long in this image. Cool art none the less.
-
Coates is going to burn the Mythos to the ground. I don't know why anyone thinks World of Wakanda is going to give T'Challa a positive viewpoint. That is not the goal of these comics. Just Trust "In Our Lord And Savior, Fiege" to keep his pimp hand strong just incase that supposedly "Woke Brother, Coogler" loses his mfing mind and starts injecting "The Great Betrayer, Coates" into the movies.
-
Sadly, I think Coates want us to believe that Wakanda has the same problems of an African county that we see on the news. That might work with new readers, but it doesn't pass muster with longtime fans.
Rape and human trafficing aren't just problems of an african country... they are problems you can attribute to pretty much every society in all of human history.
I think the idea is that for all Wakanda's technological advancements, they're still human beings and have the same social problems that every other human civilization has. Yes, Wakanda has rape and human trafficing for the same reasons that the US and everyone else has it. No matter how advanced a nation is, there are always going to be a few bad apples in the bunch.
That said, it's likely not always this bad. The country has been in a state of decline and when that happens more things slip through the cracks. I'm assuning the WoW book will elaborate more on that.
-
Rape and human trafficing aren't just problems of an african country... they are problems you can attribute to pretty much every society in all of human history.
Fine. Name three times that a heroic nation (i.e. not a dystopia) in comics has had this sort of thing run unchecked. Hell, I'll be generous. Three times in ALL FICTION that a nation ruled by a hero has had rape camps.
Then maybe you can explain why Eurotrash German mutants who run a goddamn Manhattan nightclub are using a (rather vicious) South African ethnic slur, while a former NYC cop is describing herself as "thug for life".
I may be wrong. Maybe WoW will show the causes of the utter collapse of Wakandan society. But I think Coates isn't interested in explanations. He's interested in his agenda, and he'll twist anyone and anything he needs to get it done.
-

If it's going all the way back to the New Avengers days, it def won't be a positive portrayal, for the most part. The Doras didn't agree with a lot of T'Challa's actions back then.
-
Anyone else kinda annoyed we havent had tchalla comftont aneka/ayo yet?
I feel like thats something he would have done personally. We know he can find them and they are "his" adored ones (Coates just got hard with me typing that)
As for shuri, having her embrace the mystic arts wouod give her her niche and a 100% new power set distinct from tchalla in an area where tchalla is "weak" at (relatively).
And there's what... 5 (strange, voodoo, wanda, damien, satanna) mages ever used in the mu?
-
I agree they should make Shuri go full magic. She is never going to be the genius non Coates T'Challa is. So might as well shift her into something distinct especially for the movies.
Well Coates is steering the ship it wouldn't be positive no matter what in this case though Coates wont have to twist stuff.

Not really, because I fear the direction that conversation will go :(.

I'm all for it, that would make her quite unique in the BP-verse. It fits well with much of her views on traditionalism too.
I do wonder if her personality will undergo a major change however. A mysticism angle mixed with her usual temperament (especially from the Hickman run) would be very fun to read. Kinda reminds me of the Justicars of the Mass Effect series.
-
I don't know Shuri has already mellowed. Should be fine besides a showboating mage, wizard, whatever is still good fun.
-
I don't know Shuri has already mellowed. Should be fine besides a showboating mage, wizard, whatever is still good fun.
She def mellowed, especially by the time the Hickman run started. I hope her personality doesn't change much when she comes back, as a mystic with her demeanor would be fun.
But who knows with this current run, it's been unpredictable as hell.
-
nah current run is easily predictable. Think of how you can screw T'Challa and Wakanda the most and then go two levels lower.
-
And there's what... 5 (strange, voodoo, wanda, damien, satanna) mages ever used in the mu?
Throw in Magik (from X-Men) and Talisman from Alpha Flight (and her father, assuming he's even alive these days... dude's been killed & resurrected more times than Jean Grey) and you pretty much have the A-listers. After that, it's mostly random characters like Jennifer Kale, Amanda Sefton, and Agatha Harkness.
(Interestingly, most heroic Marvel mages are female. I'm not sure why...)
-
not that unusual outside the top wizard. most of them are ranged characters or assassins guys are out in front melee. Think DnD stereotypes
-
nah current run is easily predictable. Think of how you can screw T'Challa and Wakanda the most and then go two levels lower.
I dunno...after reading BP #1, if you told me that there would've been rape camps in Wakanda or that T'Challa would've had that meeting in #5, I would've called BS on that.
And yet...:(
-
Sure issue 1 was a surprise but you cant say it didn't set the tone.

Let's be fair, by adding the "nation ruled by a hero" part, you're significantly limiting the options. Otherwise, I would point to Hell's Kitchen in Frank Miller's The Man Without Fear as an example where it occurred.
-

In some cultures magic was considered a skill that only women were allowed to pursue. I think having a lot of the heroic mages be women might be a reference to that.
-
Sure issue 1 was a surprise but you cant say it didn't set the tone.
Truei, it did. Thing is, I might be one of the few here that was somewhat expecting the overall gist of the storyline, considering everything that happened in NA/TRO/SW, especially NA and TRO.
Several expected a "moving forward" story, but I felt this overall direction was definitely one of the options the new BP writer could've went, considering how everything ended and how open ended SW's ending was, as far as Wakanda was concern.
That said, the current story has went into directions that even I would've never imagined. The rape camps and the meeting, for example, were definitely not in my purview, at all. Never saw them coming.
