He had faith in his work, he just didn't have faith in the consumers at the time. His decision to use Ross was informed by past experiences he had being a black writers writing black characters. To this day segments of fandom are outright hostile to black characters when written by black writers. Priest knew that there were some readers who wouldn't have given his book a chance without Ross in it.
Mhm. People today shit on Priest when they weren't around for the environs. As annoying as the social justice aspect of character promotion might be to some today, there's a level of acceptance and diversity that just wasn't realistic a decade or two ago.

First part of the connecting cover.
Really hoping that's N'Yami and not Ramonda. I'd feel sad if they took out one of the few true-blue Wakandan women we have to use a character already important in her own right and one of Shuri's unique standing points.

Still waiting for the Apocalypse wars variant cover
In one of Coate's tweet he said he did the 11 just to be contrary.
I figured it was to account for an inevitable delay somewhere
so 11 issues in 12 months.
Even if hid book hypothetically doesn't do well worse case scenario they just cancel it and give him another.
And I think Coates has a full year anyways so really I don't think we even need to worry about it.
Yep, I think critical acclaim will be more important.
I do wonder if Coates will stay in this world after the 11 issues if it goes well or if it will simply be something he checks off his list and moves on. Or maybe even move on to a completely different character (like say... Cage or Voodoo... yes keepin' it black because I would imagine that interests him more)

Axel Alonso said he'll continue working on BP after the 11 issues.

I find it tiresome that EVERY DAMN TIME a book is launched with at black character people immediately start talking about if it'll be canceled or not.
Stop putting these books on death watch. There are book that are WAY more niche than Black Panther that don't immediately spark discussions about cancellation.

He said in a tweet that he's finishing season one and is currently thinking about season 2 while reading the avengers under siege story.
I thought N'Yami died during childbirth.
Either way, very nice pic.
Perhaps she held on a bit longer? If she died due to complications a day or so later, one could still say she died in childbirth...

Contrary, odd, it's all good. :D

I'm glad to know he's thinking beyond his original plans. Some writers seem content to tell one arc and bail.

It isn't on death watch. It has a confirmed 11 issues and ends like all books now.
Wandering if Coates will keep doing comics is a valid discussion and not putting BP on deathwatch.

The question mark is probably more whether or not it will sell well than whether or not it will be cancelled. From the sound of things, the book sounds pretty safe at least for the next 11 issues or so. And like I said earlier even if it were to get cancelled down the line, odds are pretty good it would just get relaunched like it did the last couple times it was cancelled so I don't think this book is on death watch so much as people are just wondering whether or not the character will blow up because of the additional exposure he's getting.
-
Yea i don't think anyone is being negative about it. More like curiosity over how well it will do given the new lease on life for the character, while also understanding that exponential boosts in main stream popularity doesn't always carry over per se.
I for example would still like to see the book do very well despite it not really mattering (with all the outside media avenues), and not because i'm concerned about it getting canceled.

Dope cover, but why they got King T'Chaka looking like grandpapi?
