Meh when it comes to Hickman vs Ewing, I enjoy both styles and they should stick to them. Ewing's allows for a more safer and satisfactory romp while Hickman's allows for more risk.
And I hope Coates brings in his own style as well.
No one is saying They need to have identical styles, What they are saying is take notes on how Ewing handles the characters and continuity, not sacrificing it for the sake of the story. No matter what they each have their style and it will always be different, but some things should always be the same with every writer, thats one of them.
Yeah, you WANT writers to have different styles and different approaches to comic book writing. It's like ice cream... as much as I love chocolate, sometimes I want Strawberry or Vanilla.
I thought the first Ultimates arc was very good... but I certainly wouldn't want every title to be like that. It had it's strong points, but there were also things I believe Hickman and other writers have done better. It's nice to have writers with their own styles, short comings and all.
I do think Ewing goes for more of an old school approach to his writing... which I certainly like. In todays enviroment it actually stands out a bit.
Coates will be interesting just because it's his first comic. There may be a bit of a learning curve involved there.... but I'm optimistic given how excited so many other people seem to be about him handling the book.
No one is saying Ewing is perfect, however, its worth noting that he keeps characters consistent and doesn't punk a character to push his story. There isn't anything wrong with Hickman's story telling per se, it can kinda get boring when there is lapse in action and just a ton of narrative, and his story has gotten so complex that it was collapsing on itself and alot of things had to be handled off panel to move the story forward, which i dont think is good, especially that 3 week of panel time skip. Overall the story itself is good, but it shouldn't need to sacrifice character traits to fuel the story
