Wait wait wait hold up...
WTF was he crying about?
1. His deceased daddy that once was long gone and now is in full blown Obi Wan back from the dead mode and could now debrief him going forward as if he were still there!
2. He did not... I repeat he did not pull the trigger and blow up anything not a gosh darn thang!
3. His fight with Black Dwarf took place off panel with him breaking his hand which is something many boxers do during a match and they don't cry!
4. He barely shed a tear for the children B-Swizzy killed right in front of them!
5. When the Doras broke their phallic spears at his feet letting him know he was not getting any goods for at least until the next writer comes in he should have cried right then!
6. His wife beat him down and tossed his Cracker jack box ring to the ground and he was like whatevs!
7. Wolverine is tapping his ex... That's gotta hurt to the core but he didn't cry!
8. His nation still stands strong even after Doomwar and Namorwar!
9. His sister has the true real political responsibility while he plays house in Necropolis with Reed and them so it's not like he has to call Israel and see what's up or address the kidnapped girls in Nigeria!
10. There is absolutely nothing of note to be crying about whatsoever other than the fact that his King of The Dead powers have amounted to absolutely nothing!
So again what the FRAK is he crying about specifically at this point???
Was King T'chaka abusive to him growing up?
Did he not get enough hugs from his momma?
Did Wakanda lose a war on his watch?
Is he still worth that Forbes estimated 500 billion dollars?
Namor: "What are you crying about I pulled the trigger beyotch!"
T'challa: "They won't green light my movie!"
Stan Lee: "Now I'm crying over that!"

He was the first one to use the device WAAAAAAAAY back before Infinity.

Buy the book and you might know why he was crying Flex

Seriously, though, T'Challa has been through mad **** in these past few years and he's reaching his breaking point. Dude crying doesn't lessen him as a man. People can't always control their emotions and in reality people reach a breaking point where they almost can't hold it anymore. People who are used to being so calm and collected always have that one moment where it's just too much and everything comes out in a crazy emotional fit. T'Challa has sacrificed and went through so much. Seriously now.
-
Felx you got some good points there.
Reed is about to lose his intellect. No one is walking away unscathed. I'm sure Beast is going to get his in the X-men or Axis.

It's sad that this punch didn't knock sense into Namor. Joining a group of intergalactic space mass murderers can't be spinned as heroic or smart. Andromeda told him during Infinity and he's continuing to fall and go down a path that will not end well for him.
I think the whole way the Incursions is being viewed is probably wrong and we have missed some detail that will only be clear later on.
Reed is losing his intellect? In the F4 series?

To me the point of the scene was "If Tchalla cries.." it must be pretty bad.

Let's Review...
In one scan Superman is holding what appears to be the body of his dead cousin so that has immediate funeral implications but the slick one is the one with his head bowed in Wonder Woman's bosom... Yeah keep crying with that x-ray vision all up in Wonder Woman's lap I see ya player! Lol
Soldiers in war with their comrades dying around them left and right is the perfect reason to cry!
Bruce Wayne crying over his deceased parents works sometimes (not always)since it is the emotionally driven meta plot mover to why he is Batman in the first place... But for T'challa who once was driven by the prospect of following in his great father's footsteps that is null and void the moment his father uses his fatherly voice to chastise him like a little child especially since he is titled with King of The Dead which is something T'chaka never was nor any of the former King's of Wakanda were either!
Your deceased ghost daddy disowned you... Man leave that crack alone!
The King of The Dead concept has failed miserably to the point peeps are trying to explain why he is crying because evidently the actual story arc did not make those reasons obvious!
So from Doomwar, Klawz of The Panther, Hell's Kitchen, The Annulment of The Century, Please Please Please Storm Don't Tap Wolverine Not Him and B-Swizzy Not Picking UP A Broken Dora Spear And Giving Dude Some Of That Intergalactic Multi-verse Love Majestic has been hoping for we are now reduced to Tears For Something He Didn't Even Do!!!
The King of The Dead title by default removes the pain of a lost father because he still technically right there to continue raising his son... If he were in a living body he would be all old and bitter judging from his manner of debasing T'challa in front of people!

Exactly. The issue outright said this. That breakdown, though it was appropriate at the time because of that one situation, was also the culmination of everything that has happened since at least AvX if not since before Doomwar.
He's pretty much lost everything at this point.

A second Earth, to be precise. Whilst dying fake Superman is begging for the life of his world and Reed, Tony, Beast and Doc Strange didn't even try to pick up the device.

Yeah the thing is this is basically what Namor was saying. But he continues to be the bad guy for actually pulling the trigger.

What are you talking about? He's crying because he broke under the pressure of commiting omnicide and appeasing the spirits of the old panthers or remaining true to himself. The whole point is that it's a torturous position for non psychopaths to be in. All that was on page.
It was perfectly clear.

I'm all for mature, serious stories. There is nothing wrong with showing the human side. That scene counters the whole "cure" as far as T'challa goes.
Namor pulling the trigger, is for the same reasons he bent his knee to Proxima imho.
I think HIckman wants his readers to be conflicted his sentiments are one thing but his actions in this case in pulling the trigger are clearly reprehensible. Like we can all see why and possibly agree as to WHY he bent on on his knee but on a gut level Im thinking he shoudl stand and fight. Maybe Namor hasn't any guts?
Im with Tchalla in his actions. Like he knew why he had to to it but in action theres no way in hell he or I would of pulled the trigger.
-
Are you guys still talking about the man who had contingency plans for Galactus on his laptop... You know Galactus who eats worlds for lunch and I'm pretty sure T'challa is aware of this 24/7 whether he cries about it or not!
He broke under the pressure of not pulling the trigger?
Not pulling the trigger???
What did I need to read... He hasn't gone through anything that any other hero goes through without crying over it!
Didn't T'challa under Hudlin think fast on his feet when confronted with super hero zombies that ate up all the other super heroes... Now that was not only nasty but tragic?
Don't be trying to make an emotional case for standard issue super hero capers regardless if they use destroyed planets as the motivating factors!
The Death Star... Dark Phoenix... J.J. Abrams Star Trek reboot... All used destroyed planets and kept it moving on to the next episode without pausing to cry!
Did Princess Leia cry when they blew up Alderaan with her adopted daddy Jimmy Smits scattered all over the galaxy?
It's fictional... Nobody actually died it was the Black Panther movie prospects that are dying underneath all this convoluted King of The Dead mumbo jumbo that makes a talking raccoon a better revenue generating machine in the here and now!
This movie if it used the King of The Dead aspect would fold under so much non cohesive canon and continuity that actors would probably walk off the set in the middle of filming!
Blow up the planet cry all day every day... Don't blow up the planet go cry in limbo somewhere and wait for the next writer to take over!
Is it 2015 yet... NEXT!!!
P.S. Cure for cancer... Victor let that Fanbratti ish go you don't need to prove anything to anyone who never cared about the Black Panther as an intellectual property in the first place! If Wakanda wanted to keep the cure to themselves that's fine it's not like super powers are tripping over each other to provide bullet trains to third world countries to get really sick people to hospitals faster!
-
I think it's interesting that New Invaders just did a story where the heroes planned to flood an island to end WW2 out of expediency and "the greater good" but were opposed by their sidekicks and ultimately shown to be wrong when they discovered the island they planned to flood was inhabited by innocent people. Yet here we saw Namor provoke a fight (in the name of expediency) then ultimately pull the trigger.

The same Old Panthers who to a man, had no problem with letting hungry refugees starve to death directly outside Wakanda's gates and would happily let thier own Earth blow up if they thought Wakanda would be spared in the explosion.
They aren't supposed to be the voice of reason or justifiable decisive action. Expedency=Moral Bankruptcy.
Which is what Steve Rogers was trying to tell the Illuminati before they mindwiped him. Building Uber-Bombs in secret is eaiser than a planetary evacuation so they didn't even consider that(and it wouldn't even have been all that hard for a group that could probably build a cosmic cube from scratch.
The Illuminati went straight to building bombs.
T'Challa is complict in all this since he helped build the bomb that Namor used so even if he didn't want to be a mass murderer, he is an accessory ot it. There's some other stuff going on here but, I'll leave that for the New Avengers thread.

That my only problem with Hickman tale. The lack of portraying the Illuminatti exploring a different route
and failing.

I said this the other day too. They only said they explored every option, but they were slanted toward destruction from the start.

I didn't read that story, but I would argue that the time frame to do what is necessary in an incursion and a World War II situation is entirely different. Namor did the necessary evil, but nonetheless it is still evil.
And in T'Challa has every right to feel the way he does. I don't care who you are. Death is not a joke. Killing people is not a joke. Killing innocent people is not a joke. I can relate to T'Challa on holding that bomb, taking in all that power of destruction. I felt the same thing the first time I held a gun. This isn't the typical super hero fight where there's no consequence. We're dealing with real stuff here.

Something to actually cry for...
Daily Bugle Newsflash: T'challa Hit With 500 Billion Dollar Child Support Lawsuit!
Storm: "I had two kids with T'challa named Kymera and Azari... Pay up negro!"
T'challa: "But they are children from an alternate universe cut me some slack!"
Storm: "Baby needs shoes!"
T'challa: "Don't you have your own ongoing comic now... You can afford them shoes yourself!"
Storm: "The residuals have not kicked in yet so I need payments that keep me in the comfort I am accustomed to!"
Wolverine: "I'm spending yo chips bub!"
T'challa: "I'm feeling like O.J. Simpson right about now don't test me!"
T'chaka: "You are a huge disappointment son!"
T'challa: "Dad shut the FRAK up I made more money than you, Wakanda Design Group has accomplished more than you ever did in your lifetime plus I own..."
Storm's Attorney: "Freeze all assets of Wakanda Design Group... Sir, we will taking those Kimoyo Cards and at least half of the vibranium you secretly stashed during Doomwar!"
Bane: "We will destroy Necropolis and then when it is done and Necropolis is ashes... Then you have my permission to CRY!"
T'challa: "FRAK ALL YAW"LL!"
So T'challa has lost everything... What a Jerk!

What relevance does your response to my original post have in the cosmic scheme of things when you fail to acknowledge the fact that post Doomwar, T'Challa has been on a never ending spiral of deconstruction?
Even Victor Freeman acknowledges the fact that the T'Challa never gets reconstructed period, so you might want to rewind and come again with a question that actually takes all the angles of the equation into consideration. :)

I just love it when people come with the "people that actually read the book understand it" retort as a misdirectional tool to avoid actually discussing what's really happening.
I've read every single issue of New Avengers straight through from 1-21 so for anyone to make crass statements to the effect that I don't understand what I've read so far, just goes to show that the scraps from the table must be really scrumptious for some.
From Doomwar to Infinity, T'Challa stays.......

The Day After Tomorrow...
Doom: "DUDE... You didn't!"
T'challa: "I did!"
Doom: "A whole planet?"
T'challa: "The whole thing!"
Doom: "Were their innocents involved?"
T'challa: "Blood on my hands as we speak!"
Doom: "My N!&&@... Get over here right now me and Loki got a couple of honeys on the pole come celebrate your coming out party with us!"
T'challa: "I am not a villain!"
Loki: "Gimme that phone... N!&&@ stop fronting and get on up over here these girls is crazy over here!"
T'challa: "I'm... I'm... I just can't right now!"
Loki: "Are you crying?"
Doom: "Give me the phone... BAH stop bawling like a mere cretin and get over here you are just going through super hero withdrawals like we all did when we discover who we really are!"
Scott Summers: "Who are you guys talking to?"
Doom: "T'challa... Holla at yo boy for a minute!"

My bro, I have no problem admitting that you're original observations about the problematic aspect of this KOTD malarkey have now been proven to be 100% RIGHT.
You POINTED out things back then that have now become crystal clear in hindsight.
I can see a whole lot more crying in the average T'Challa fans life moving forward because between Kevin Feige's lame excuses and Marvel's continued insistence in twisting T'Challa up like a stale pretzel the BP mythos are getting the Fleece Johnson treatment without any respite in sight.
Chaos wept. :smh:

You're entitled to your opinion but set against the backdrop of T'Challa's non-stop deconstruction at the hands of Maberry onwards, I'm fully entitled to say no to scraps off of Marvel's table.

Yeah. While i'm on the other side of this argument and pro-Hickman at the moment--I'm fully on the Deconstructing v. Reconstructing. T'challa reconstructing has been minimal. Since this is a deconstructing story, the stuff like stale mating Batman and other little things, seems lacking. To the point where if he had prior reconstructing in a positive manner, I don't think we would be split or having this debate. So I get where you guys are coming from.
It's flat out going to be either Hickman delivers and does what he said he was setting out to do---leave T'challa in the right place and at the center of the MU or he bombs hard like Maberry. Still a long way to go. Deconstructing is fine, they are my favorite stories, because it allows a writer to refine and redefine characters. The issue with Panther is he's never really rebuilt. Priest, Hudlin, AvX, each instance for some reason the didn't get rebuild. Priest it was cancellation, Hudlin it was rebooting with Shuri, Hudlin moving on and then the Doomwar disaster. AvX was at his expense.
So I get why some are wary. I just don't think Hickman is going to screw T'challa, since the story actually rides on T'challa raising to the occasion.
A key issue is number 24 and the time skip.
-
Valid points have been raised both pro and con about KotD. I have no problem with it as it offered another avenue to view T'Challa. It's obvious that some don't like it and I agree more can be done with it. But I'm not skeptical about what Hickman is doing or his end goal for T'Challa and the Illuminati. I'm sticking with it.
