I honestly think he is too young for the current roster of avengers. Unless they keep dropping the age of them with the advent of quick silver (like 25) and scarlet witch (24) and Boyega being like 22. He would need to be around 29-35. One to hit that demographic and two to be seen as an equal among his peers (Cap and the gang).

Unless they get him in AoU he'll be around 25 before he's in any Marvel Film.

Honestly, he's fine--but I don't think he will get it. I still think Chad Boseman is the guy who might get the role. He's athletic, 6 feet tall and also a pretty good actor. He would be cheap as well.

I'd also like Aldis Hodge.
YES!
I've finished watching Leverage recently and I think he is the best pick for the role. He is the right age too, he is around 27 this year so he will well be in to his 30's if he gets cast as T'Challa.
Camera tricks can solve that problem, Tom Cruise is a midget yet his movies make sure he's as tall or taller then everyone else
They even made it look like DMX is the same height as Gabrielle Union
I recall Fox doing that with the actor that played Cyclops in the X-Men films, Hugh & the actress that played Jean were taller than him.

That is great choice. Folks are speculating he could play Green Lantern John Stewart if he is not playing BP.

I think Aldis Hodge would be a great contender for the role of BP, as well.
IIRC, someone posted a video of Hodge showing off his agility at an obstacle course.

Yeah I think he's a little too young too

He might be cheap but he's NOT cheap enough when we are talking about Disney/Marvel.
CHEAP is looking at who you already have under contract for Disney/Marvel/ABC/ESPN. Meaning who can you cast in that role and can help boost whatever tv show they are doing.
Here are your choices-
The black kid from Harry Potter in How to Get Away with Murder
Arjay Smith from Perception (who is 30 but is still playing 18-24 year olds)
Levar Burton (Perception) (too old and fat)
Whatever black actor you have on General Hospital
Doc Shaw Two Kings (who is too young)
Shemar Moore (Criminal Minds-the show does have a link to Disney)
J August Richards (The Lottery-Disney has a link to Lifetime as well)
Arlen Escarpeta (since he is doing the Whitney Houston movie)
I think homeboy from Star Wars/Attack Da BLock got it. There is WAY too much free press you could get if he got the BP. Because every interview he would have would mention the Star Wars role and that BP role.
I just see them going the cheap route. Smaller budget and fast return on profit.
-
Spear of Basgenga...
Did you really compare Star Wars to 12 Years A Slave?
Most of those actor driven critically acclaimed movies flop... Give John Boyega enough time and he will be in the remake of Sounder and that will flop too because all black actors have to at some point do those "Good Ole Days" backwater negro spiritual movies in Hollywood just to keep you in your place before you get big headed and think you are in charge of your own career or something!
Anywho...
Other than Harrison Ford (Indiana Jones) which member of any Star Wars cast went to do other huge box office movies where they carried the whole franchise all by their lonesome?
It wasn't a license to print money for Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher or Billy Dee Williams at least according to their before and after resumes!
Besides, you don't know if J.J. Abrams flinched up and made John Luke Skywalker's disfunctional padawan yet on some Jar Jar Binks reboot!
Also have the local Fanbratti got at him for the role in Star Wars TROLL style... You wouldn't want to find out the hard way that they don't support this anymore than the sagging sales Black Panther solo comic and have Star Wars flop at the box office!
As it stands the new Star Wars is not guaranteed to do Harry Potter or Lord of The Rings revenue and the magic could very well be gone... We need some early reviews on that matter first!
-

I can say with total certainty that Star Wars VII will make an insane amout of money regardless of reviews.
You, I, and almost everyone we both know will see it and take their kids to see it, they'll likely take their parents to see it.
Look at your facebook friends list. Nearly all of them and the people on their friends lists are going. Don't have Facebook? Ask the closest person to you in line at Starbucks (or whereever) to see their friends list. All those people are going.
Revenge of the Sith made $848,754,768 Worldwide... and that was after people already knew the prequels sucked.

Nah. He's just as "cheap" as John. Boseman isn't a blockbuster star, who is breaking the bank. So there really no different between the two, other then one fits better. He has the size, he looks a more athletic imho. John doesn't have the height, isn't or doesn't look as athletic (though that could change). John is good, but he makes T'challa the youngster and I'm personally not sold on him standing in the beside the others with the age gap.
Hodge is another good candidate as mentioned. As pointed out by others, the actors who actively lobby don't get the role.
-
Spear of Bashenga you have to adjust for inflation on those numbers... So no everybody did not see it and there is still no guarantee those numbers will increase for the new Star Wars!
I have not seen the latest Captain America movie and only saw Thor 2 when my brother asked me to get it OnDemand so there is a possibility I might not see the new Star Wars considering that I retired from it after Revenge of The Sith and don't watch the Clone Wars cartoon!
There was a lot of buzz for Snakes on The Plane which tracked well but didn't sell well... In this era trying to restart a franchise is difficult when video games can do a billion on their own!
Bringing back the old cast has a "Nostalgia" vibe but I would rather remember Princess Liea choking Jabba Hutt not looking like him! Lol
This could be huge for John Boyega but also a huge gamble for Star Wars if it does not live up to expectations... They can mean well casting black actors but it could also backfire!
Either way I want a Black Panther movie more than a new Star Wars movie... Darth Vader gave us the big reveal now all that is left is potential new villains I might not even care about at this point in time!
Now as much as I want Black Panther away from the other characters to get his shine on it may be best to cast Boyega and keep him in his own separate world like Nolan's Batman instead of standing him next to older actors that will chump him out on cue... Make no mistake about it this is still Marvel we are talking about here so take nothing for granted where it concerns Black Panther!
-
Keep in mind that Chris Evan is 6-0 and Chris H. is 6-3.
Do you REALLY want a 5-8, young actor standing next to these two--with ZERO assurances that they would pull any screen tricks to make him look taller. I doubt they would do that for him. RDJ, yes--John B. nah.
The actor who plays T'challa needs to look and be intimidating. He needs to be able to stand straight up with both of the Chris E and H. I just don't want to have him appear like Falcon, only instead of flying around--he's jumping around. But that's just me.
Another thing, John B. T'challa's seems to me at least to edge toward the young Ultimate Panther. Not really feeling that at all. I rather have Chewy, Idris, Boseman or Hodge. At this point, Young T'challa should be shown in flashbacks.
-
Yeah no, BP should under no circumstances be as big as freaking Thor, and probably not as big as Cap either. Big yes, clearly fit, absolutely, a giant, no way.
-
So Bushwick Bill is out of the question... Stop hating on the little guys!
Gary Coleman lives Beyotches!!!
-
Yeah no, BP should under no circumstances be as big as freaking Thor, and probably not as big as Cap either. Big yes, clearly fit, absolutely, a giant, no way.
He should be at least as big as Cap. Since Movie Cap is only 6'0". T'challa should remain 6'0" and current T'challa is at least as Big as Cap. There isn't any noticeable different in size between the two. Both Hodge (6-1) and Booseman (6-0) are in the 6 feet range. Chewy is 5-11 and Idris is 6-3.
T'challa in the comics is 6'0".
-
Yeah same size as Cap, probably also want to go with a Martial Arts Build or Gymanist so not muscle bound like the Rock for instance.
-
It took a while but non BP writers are finally beginning to acknowledge Shuri as the queen of Wakanda
BP and Shuri got name dropped in daredevil and some general appeared
-
Chris Evans is not 6'0" he is more like 5'10'ish according to a friend of mine... They fidget a few numbers like athletes do and add 2 inches since most of them are wearing lifts at some point during filming!
I don't really care about the height as much as I do the action scenes being tight as FRAK... No Catwoman movie cgi please!
-
brother's going to SDCC--he said he will update me on any pertinent Black Panther News...if he can tear himself away from creator's row.
-
height does not matter when filming by adjusting the scales of the sets bigger people can look small and smaller people can look big so the height of actors involved in a B.P movie matters none at all.
It took a while but non BP writers are finally beginning to acknowledge Shuri as the queen of Wakanda

She does not seem to be doing such a good job as queen. you would think with a B.P in Wakanda this stuff what is happening in D.D would not be happening.

good-thing most male actors are under 6 foot in hollywood. Christian Bale is 6 foot..and Tom Hardy who played BANE is 5'9 (snicker) closer to 5'7 and half
Wesley Snipes is closer to 5'7 and a half than 6 foot.
-
T'challa needs to get his butt out of necropolis and down to the wakandan embassy in NYC and start bitch slapping some people on the all new marvel NOW!
this some fishy buisness going down with the extradition of the three nuns to wakanda to cover up this somehow joint secret weapons operation between the US and wakandan govt
i knew DD snuck into the wakandan embassy to easily... was a little surprised they took him down like they did. waid really ruffed him up a lot. can't wait to see next issue, looks like we are headed to wakanda..
is this waid's black panther pitch?
oh did i just sell a couple daredevil books?
you would think with a B.P in Wakanda this stuff would not be happening.
Yeah under her watch Wakanda has gotten destroyed 3 times (?) and all these corrupt generals
this wouldn't have happened on T'challa's watch :D

the way the stories went when T'challa was B.P was that his being away superheroing allowed the corrupt politicians to do their thing but now Shuri is a stay at home queen and the corrupt politicians still around and more brazen it would seem.

I'm looking forward to reading Daredevil #7. I'm curious about what these particular Wakandans have been getting up to, and to what extent Shuri and T'Challa know what is going on.

NO GOOD!
i cant imagine any scenario where clandestine cooperation between the us army and nameless buerecrats inside the wakandan emabassy on secret weapons programs are a good thing

Wakanda is showing up all over the place lately. There was a quick Illuminati cameo in New Invaders (in Necropolis) and Namor basically said that Wakanda whooped dat ass in reference to his duties as king.

cool, i havnt got to that book yet, its in my stack!
it would be very interesting to get some real stats, and kinda track the frequency of black panther appearances and mentions over the past 2 years.. its not a accident
and oh by the way, marvel announced a another new movie date yesterday.. probably avengers 3, but the more slots the better

Great point. It's not too bad a time to be a Black Panther fan. Of course, him having his own title would be better, but until that happens again, it's nice for him and his mythology to have such a consistent presence in the Marvel U.

I'm looking forward to reading issue #7 as well as I thought issue #6 is a very well written story. I like that the Wakandan Lt., N'Banta, was a lot tougher than he seemed and I love the mention that Wakanda is the most technologically advanced nation on the planet. His prep for DD was on point.
The only thing that seemed odd was DD mentioning that it was the Avengers who told him that T'Challa was no longer on the throne and that Shuri is now ruler of Wakanda. I thought DD knew this already, considering that T'Challa cleaned up DD's mess!

Can you imagine Black Panther as a Knight. Then he would literally be MArvel's Dark Knight. here's Hoping that Bishop is actually a Bishop in the Marvel Chess set. Tho I am pleased Panther is on the board/
