EXACTLY!
If you read the q/a section from issue 8 Coates specifically stated that he is "aware" of the fandom wanting Storm and T'Challa back together and that she will be showing up again in future issues. My question however is Why? What's the point of having her pop up in Wakanda simply so that T'Challa can give her googly eyes? Either put them back together or let them move on as comrades and friends. There is absolutely ZERO reason to leave the wound open and festering, as it accomplishes nothing more than to serve as an excuse to keep T'Challa a celibate, pining monk. He'll be Changmaire status if Coates keeps this up....
Full agreement, I peeped that Q/A response and I literally groaned. I got nothing against Storm and i like the idea of what she represented once upon a time... but it's not happening. This whole "once a year BP gets 2 "emotional" panels with Ororo... and then back to celibacy" crap cycle has to end.
I thought BP was getting a new love interest?
Coates makes a point of BP doesn't date wakandan women (which is some petty shit to say given he's only had 2 love interests in his 50 years)... but Coates as the damn writer wants to drag out this Storm stuff when any writer looking to elevate the character would've just set BP up with another (Wakandan) woman by now. smh
-
bI believe he called him a lawful good Paladin, which is so far form the truth because Paladins are very restricted to lawful good and if they fall out of it, they lose power.
T'Challa is quite "lawful good" when in power. His alignment changes when he isn't in power though, leaning towards neutral good, imho.

I do wonder what kind of tribal shit storm would occur if T'challa did pick a Wakandan chick.
from Coates twitter...
"I hope it was as good for you, as it was for me. I'm excited for you guys to see how Shuri uses oral history as an actual power."
"I tried to model her on the bard class from D&D, with a lot of the Griot tradition."
And with that wast he scan where the queen mother turned to stone.

Lol yea, it's like everyone is speaking in riddles with their explanation.
Just yes or no (or maybe lol): Can she run fast? Can she turn to stone? Can she talk to pigeons?
Is she Zatanna now? Is she a Deus Ex Machina of superpowers based on what superpower some back-in-the-day Wakandan had?? lol
T'Challa is quite "lawful good" when in power. His alignment changes when he isn't in power though, leaning towards neutral good, imho.
Not to mention the Paladin class can summed up as "Fighter empowers by his God" which is T'Challa exactly.
And T'Challa doesn't have to be Lawful Good when Bast himself is Neutral Good (at best).

Her powers seem to work exactly like Bravestar's from the back in the day cartoons: Fast as the Cheetah, strong as Stone, free as the Birds. The only difference will be she will also get to talk in enigmatic riddles like Shaman, Bravestarr's mentor.
She's African BraveStarr but if he were a hot chick.

Zatanna is pretty much a sorcerer, which is also a D&D class. Magic is a sorcerer's specialty.
Bards are, more or less jack of all trades. They can cast spells and are proficient in a wide array of weapons and combat styles, but they aren't masters of a particular style of combat.
Where the bard specializes in is storytelling, gathering information, and invoking knowledge. They are great at sharing stories and experiences. Thus, most bards tend to be quite charismatic and inspirational. They are quite social too.
A warrior bard, for example, would fight during battle and inspire their allies, but would retell the battle in great detail, often to make a point.
Tie that to the Djalia stories that Shuri was getting throughout the season, and it's an idea of what Shuri's main role will be.

I don't see it honestly. Maybe with Lee Kirby and McGregor's T'Challa yes, but with Priest, Hudlin, Liss and forward? Neutral Good. Because lawful good they are stuck to their alignment to be good which makes then easy to manipulate.
My Problem with the thing is that Coates is using this strong feminist stance in a mythos that literally doesn't fit, or atleast how he went about it. Wakanda is not going to have "Leacherous chieftains who actions went unopposed for a long time" Because 1 T'Challa would know about it and deal with it. and 2 would be very much pissed to find out it was happening in his country, not all nonchalant about it. This would make more sense if this was happening in Niganda and the MA felt they needed to do something (especially since Coates wants to play off the whole Wakanda did Niganda dirty so they think) about the women there and ignored Border relations or intervening in another country, putting T'Challa in a bind. But no, he decided to use rape tree houses, in such a poorly done manner too. There was no real acknowledgement of it, no real conclusion, it was thrown in there for shock value and to sh** on the mythos, pretty much the entire MA sideplot how its been handled has been to Sh** on the mythos with false narratives, forced made up injustice and inequality. Plus a thing that bugged me, that whole tree house scene whent] Ayo i believe says to the bandit along the lines of "The golden city may cower before them" or some sh**... really? the same golden city who went to war and destroyed atlantis, and repelled 2 invasions by Thanos forces would be afraid of some bandits? Thats my problem is that Coates is portraying an extremely weak Wakanda for new readers just because he wants his pet characters to take off and seem better then they actually are.
I think her power set is blazing speed, a flock of seaguls, and reverse medusa.
hnestly despite how he started having t=T'Challa to push his story and the anti climactic finish with Namor (though this may have also had to do with SS bullsh*t which ruined it as well) Hickman overall put T'challa into a place to be returned to Status quo. He restored the Mu, He survived the incursions, he battled the most powerful god in existence and he kinda in directly killed Namor (i Saw this because in SW when he blocks that energy beam from god Doom it looks like he purposefully redirects it Namor's way.. atleast in my mind lol) and in the end we see Wakanda looking to the star and dragging humanity with them. It wasn't perfect but it seemed like Ewing was also carrying that along as well. But then ... Coates i dunno what his goal is but he needs to get T'challa to the actual Status quo now
Yup. No way would T'Challa have allowed Coates' Cosby Chief to keep on doing what he's been doing. And no way would Aneka, BP's right hand woman/personal body guard, have known about this guy's actions for so long but would not have informed T'Challa about this chieftain rounding up and raping wakandan women. That just isn't believable, not a good look for BP/Ramonda... and as you pointed out, its essentially shock value to ish on the mythos and give Aneka/Ayo their Magneto like sympathy before Shuri comes in to "set things right" with the "misogynist" Wakandan culture (smh).
Honestly Hickman would be my ideal T'Challa writer right now... because his main flaw is that once he has a main character (Reed), a main antagonist (Doom) and an end goal encounter in mind, he's liable to throw in as many plot devices or "square peg--> round hole" as many supporting characters as needed to get that end result. BUT... did you see how glorious he made Doom in that? Or how everything Doom did only made Reed look that much greater at the very end, with one simple line? Everyone from T'Challa, to Tony and Steve, they all had the square peg treatment in order to lead to Reed/Doom's defining moment of greatness.
So with that said, imagine if Hickman came back with T'Challa as his new "main character" instead of Reed? With SW #9 as his launching point and everything/everybody ultimately leading to BP's defining moment of greatness. It would be wild.
Hell, for all the bs we didnt like with his portrayal of BP, you could tell he dug the character and a lot of the bs was just "square-peg"ing... like having BP give the Bond villain speech instead of killing Namor + the Cabal outright. We hated it but Hickman needed his main villain (Doom) to kill Thanos n em later. BP had the gauntlet but Hickman needed his main character (Reed) to stop Doom in their defining moment.
I would love to see Hickman give BP the full treatment he gave Reed/Doom.
Plus, unlike Coates, Hickman is a futurist. He embraces all that technology outside the box stuff, so he would push for that afro-futuristic wakanda. SW #9 showed us that.

When T'Challa is in power, he is, more or less, the law of the land. Most of the stuff he does can be deemed legal, by virtue of him being king. When tribal/national law prevents him from doing something, he usually find a legal loophole to make it happen. It's quite rare for him to commit an act that is flat out illegal (even when he operates outside of Wakanda, he has diplomatic immunity to protect him). Add the fact that a strong majority of his actions is usually for the safety of his country and/or the greater good and he def fits the lawful good mold, as king.
Things change when he isn't king. Interacting with Namor--an enemy of the state--during New Avengers may have been for the greater good, but he did it without the approval of the kingdom. Hence, he got banned.
During doomwar, he send Dora Milaje to clandestinely infiltrate Doom's castle, which could've started an full-out war. It may have been for the greater good, but T'Challa did it without Shuri's approval. He didn't have the legal authority to make such a move.
Those two instances are examples of T'Challa being neutral good when not in power.

It's for the best. Having T'Challa fighting the MAs could result in more Anti-male innuendo. Too much of that as is.
Having Shuri doing so (and possibly present T'Challa's case) removes said innuendo off the table entirely.

Yes Exactly, its said Aneka went to the chieftain, how did she know he was raping the women? She should of informed T'Challa, or T'Challa would of known, or better yet, T'Challa would of known and Sent Aneka to deal with it because he trusts her, would still have the shock value (Bleh) but would of shown the Royal family did indeed care and were aware of the injustice, but With Aneka's Actions (though noble) broke the law and she knew she messed up, but Ayo for fear of losing her love sets off the the breaking out and puts the whole thing in chaos.
At this point though yea i would take Hickman over Coates all day everyday because this version is the sh**tiest and saddest T'Challa and Wakanda i have ever seen

Royal Family complete with Ramonda & Shuri now.
Might be unpopular opinion but this movie needs one more White PoV character to maximize profits (Ross is cool but need a stud type)

White Wolf as an adopted son in the royal family could be great as a minor role (head of security or something)
The white guy from Power would be acceptable he fits in really good with that predominantly black cast
I just hope that T'challa doesn't lose his crown/throne to Shuri. To be honest he should never have lost it to begin with. I don't recall him renouncing or abbicating the throne after his injuries from Doom, at best Shuri was just a placeholder or regent. And even Bast said that T'challa could take back throne if he wanted it. I don't get why so many call for him to step down and give up the crown, or call for Wakanda to give up the monarchy when you don't hear the same calls for Atlantis, Atillan, Asgard or any other monarchy in the MU. T'challa is the rightful ruler of Wakanda.
You might want take Atillan of your list.
Medusa is the Inhuman Monarch at present so Shuri's ascension to the Wakandan throne was only problematic to some readers unable to think outside of the proverbial box.
In the long run, she was distinctive enough of a character to gain a dedicated fanbase cognizant of the fact that any expansion of T'Challa's cast only served to broaden the appeal of the BP mythos to a wider demographic.
