Don't know much about the character but that trailer looks badass as hell
Quick question: :Can some of the big BP fans here recommend me some solid runs I should read before the movie comes out? Is the current Coates one good or are there any other classics I should check out instead?
Start with the Priest run. A strong majority of the characters in the film are featured there and the run itself is very good imho, so its a great place to start.
From there, I'd move chronologically: Hudlin's run (Shuri, who is in the movie, is introduced there), Mayberry's run, Liss' run, New Avengers & Secret Wars by Hickman (New Avengers may be a big factor concerning the upcoming Infinity War film), and then Coates' run (Ayo, who was in Civil War and is also in the BP film, is introduced there).
Do that, and you'll have a very good idea of what potential directions the MCU may go in subsequent sequels.

Well I don't want to rain on the parade but I need one question answered is T'Challa still a Super Genius?
Because sorry Fam I think they took it from T'challa to give something to Shuri.....and I don't give one **** about Shuri.
They didn't nerf the white heroes to make their supporting cast look good and it shouldn't happen for T'challa to prop up a supporting cast member.
So if Coates infected Coogler then yeah I am not going to pay money to see Black Panther.

So here we see Shuri compared to Iron Man...and I don't see a damn thing about T'Challa being on par.
I am not down for this BS at all. They want to make Shuri smarter fine whatever.
But this Franchise is about T'Challa you don't see Batman, Superman, Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, etc taking such a massive hit to prop up their supporting cast members.
So I hope I am wrong but I am not so sure Coates and Coogler are too chummy for my liking.

Priest run to establish why Tchalla is the most dangerous man on Earth and a True badass who has plans upon plans and has badass tech and uses it as well has h2h to deadly effect, then Hudlin's run to establish why T'Challa is a badass who is not to be fucked with and the guy you want on your team, and also establishes Wakanda as the true super power that you again, don't want to fuck with. I really hope that T'Challa has his genius despite the development with Shuri. He shouldn't be nerfed in that department at all. That's like making a movie about Storm without the weather powers.

@Bold: In fairness? Superman just got his ass kicked by Supergirl in her show. Not too bad in and of itself, but then they followed it up with Clark admitting to Kara that he was fighting "at full strength" (he was mind controlled) and then he went on to tell her how in awe of her he was and that SHE was Earth's champion now.
First he loses to her, and then he basically gives her an "I suck, you're awesome" speech. Yeah, it's her show, but come on! There would never have been a Supergirl if not for him.
-
Well Fam we might have to get the pitchforks out for one Coates.
Him ruining T'Challa in the comics is one thing....him doing it for the movies.....unforgivable.
Notice I said massive hits to prop up supporting cast members....cause yes I am aware Thor aint up to par with the comics but Sif or The Warrior Three didn't take one of his major powers so they can look good at his expense.
And yes little black girls being shown they can be smart is good but not at the expense of little black boys and not at the expense of the hero we have to thank for this Black Excellence.

And this is why Supergirl annoys me at times. Bad enough that she took some of her cousin's rogues gallery and Superboy's entire Cadmus deal (and other Superman things), but Superman himself bowing to Kara? No way.
-
Yeah it makes you wonder who Superman even fought for most of the time...I guess Lex and Zod apparently.

Yes I heard. And for the record I hate them nerfing Superman to make Kara look good. He is treated as a joke on her show.
Especially in context considering he shouldn't have been holding back and she would have had to.
But False Equivalence.
1) Not His Show, Its Called Supergirl
2) He still has all his powers even if he is slightly weaker then Supergirl
3) Not a Movie, Not His First Appearance Either

Ok thanks a lot! Will look into Priest's run on MU as soon as possible

Yeah but that's a Supergirl show. If he was nerfed in her favor in his own movie/TV show, that's much more similar to what JediKage is potentially describing. I hope he maintains his intellect considering Stark and Banner are allowed to keep theirs

Watch this movie is going to jumpstart Afrofuturism in film and is going to force black filmmakers to think beyond the usually cliche black genres that are comedy, drama and slave films. If this movie succeeds then we're getting more afrofuturism and films depicting blacks in powerful roles. Just watch.

Yeah The Kid, how do you think Batman fans would react if say well....not going to say Dick...lets say Stephanie Brown was a super genius with the tech skills, detective skills and strategy but Bruce kept his fighting skills and company....I can imagine the reaction being poor...but heck its Batman he probably bounce back in the next project.
The first impression is kinda permanent.

YeahI'm not too happy about that either. Tchalla IS the super genius. Shuri can have some tech showings and flex her genius but she should NOT be smarter then Tchalla, that's not even a knock at her because I do like Shuri. But she is a genius, and Tchalla is a super genius..
Big difference.
And yes there hasn't been other heroes giving away their traits to supporting cast members. If Coogler really wants to be smart about it? Have Shuri make a comment to someone akin to Hunter telling Tony that Tchalla could design an Ironman suit that rivals his if he chose to, but he doesn't need it. So please I Hope they are smart about it and they don't take away his super genius, or Worse, have Tchalla admit that Shuri is smarter then him.
Again Shuri can be the tech genius, but Tchalla Should be the one she looks to for guidance when it's something "Beyond her"

Now that you mention Batman, that did sort of happen in the Nolan trilogy with Bruce and Lucius Fox. But that was a pretty grounded series so I give it a pass because Batgod just wouldn't fit. But the MCU is a very fantastical universe. Someone as intelligent, skilled, and driven as Black Panther easily fits in when you have Greek Gods, super-geniuses, magic, and all sorts of aliens creatures

Yes it would be like Singer Storm.....especially in Age of Apocalypse. I could so what she did with a taser and a large fan. And that was after an Apocalypse Power Up so before that I doubt she could make an airplane fly.

Yeah but he was still a super genius. Remember he fixed the autopilot on his Batwing????
Something that Fox and Wayne Tech couldn't fix.
In TDKR so yeah he didn't show it much it was still confirmed.
He just didn't have the time to build all his own tech so he outsourced it to Fox who was also older and had been in charge of R&D at Wayne Enterprise for Decades.
Shuri is younger then T'Challa.
