Given the fact Fox owns all X-characters. Somebody do something quick before she cant be used by Marvel/Disney and she becomes an exclusive property to Fox.
IE let her be T'challa's Daughter as well.
My only problem with her is that Reg or Priestvdidn't think of the future daughter angle first.
A solo BP series (if and when there ever is one)is going to need ALL THE HELP IT CAN GET. Characters with a line to the more popular X verse is help.
Recurring characters with a following would be help too, which is why I wanna see Silver Sable hang out with Black Panther and Red She Hulk hang out with Shuri.

Yeah, I do think during Hudlin's era he did a good job creating stronger ties between T'Challa and the rest of the MU. And that at least helped.
Obviously the marriage to Storm the big one. But having them join the FF and in general being more involved in big marvel events likely increased the characters exposure at least a little. Not that this sort of tactic always helps, but it's what you probably need to do.
Right now it's somewhat of a non-issue since the only book T'Challa appears in is an Avengers book, which will sell well on it's own. But if he ever gets another solo shot (and IMO that's inevitable), the creative team should do as much as possible to give the book the best fighting chance. If that means having him hang out with Spider-Man and Wolverine in the first arc, then do it. Any reason at all to get someone else who normally might not pick up the book to at least give it a look is a good thing.
-
Hudlin had a whole future family worked out where Luke Cage's future daughter was marrying Black Panther and Storm's future son... T'challa and Ororo had four kids I believe in that story!
It was a one shot issue on a "What If" vibe if Umbra or Victor Freeman were here they would provide scans from the exact issue...

T'challa is also appearing in Original Sin remember?
But, if a solo is planned (which seems likely at this pace), there is no reason T'challa or Shuri shouldn't be showing up in titles like Daredevil, Mighty Avengers, Avengers, Avengers World, or Fantastic 4.
Completely random, but I would LOVE for Loki and T'challa to come face-to-face... has this happened?

Xpac it would be nice to have a solo comic but I disagree with the hanging out with Spiderman part because Black Panther has done that already and Shuri has also to no real big change in sales!
At this point you already know what sales you get from the standard issue Fanbratti so you have to seriously go after the black vote... Priest spoke about this on his blog!
When you hide a character in the local comic shop and pursue the same ole fan bases they have already spoken loud and clear to you about their purchasing habits!
They have not ever pushed the character beyond the 60,000+ units sold even when other comic sales regularly surpassed the 100,000+ mark!
He has stood next to the FF, Wolverine, Captain America and pretty much everybody worth something in the Marvel universe and still mediocre sales!
Except for when Hudlin was onboard they never went after the black vote vehemently and Hudlin took that initiative more upon himself than Marvel fully supporting it... Hudlin sold the most Black Panther comics total so why not double up on his type of push one more time!
Now that Disney money is in the picture there are gateways to circumvent the comic book gatekeepers and go after that elusive fan base waiting to be catered to!
You can throw Black Panther in the Star Wars movie to boost his sales and it won't matter... He has to be built for public consumption on purpose and structured to carry his own load like every other product for sale on the planet without ensemble piggybacking!
Disney: "Hey look there is black folks over there let's actually try to get their attention and really really really try to get that money in their pocket by marketing to them as if we mean it this time!"
Fanbratti: "Naw, let's just put this on the shelf at all the same ole obscure comic shops and hope they notice it by accident!"
Disney: "Did you buy us out or did we buy you out? We'll take it from here thanks!"

^^^This is something I agree with you on. Marvel would have very little to lose and everything to gain by trying to open up new markets. I just read in the last couple of weeks that the latinos are currently the biggest movie market in the states. That may or not have been accurate. But one thing I do know, is that marketing agencies are usually way ahead of the entertainment industry when it comes to featuring minorities. They know where the money is and persue it. Just watch the commercials on tv. Much more diversity than the shows they support. I am not sure how Mighty Avengers is doing, but it sets the perfect tone to attract new readers. If Marvel would just push it a little.........

Hudlin did agressively go after Black readers. Though under him he also married a prominent X-Men and join the Fantastic Four.
I think it is a good idea to go after the black audience. But common sense dictates that you cast the largest net possible to catch the most fish. The reality of the market is that 99% of the books out there get cancelled. The odds of ANY book that isn't already an established franchise lasting decades is very very slim regardless of what you do. So anything you can do to attract the largest potential readership possible is needed to even give you a fighting chance in what is likely a losing battle right out of the gate. That's the simple reality of the situation.

Oh yeah Xpac well I...
Wait a minute... I think I agree with most of what you said in that post so I'll wait until you say something else that I don't agree with to respond accordingly!
Good post btw!
Carry on...

do you feel that it would be better to get a black writer say Ronald Wimberley to write the next B.P solo as black writers seem to connect more and use themes such as Black Pride and Black Nationalism that appeal more to black readers or would any writer of a certain level of competence do?

I give it up to Hudlin for a Number of things. Giving Panther a Future, with a Family is one of them.

Thank you very much for the warm welcome Maj. I have and continue to find your passionate elucidations on all things Black Panther to be both poignant and precise. I will most definitely endeavor to post more frequently but you guys here at CBR get it in. I still haven't caught up in reading all the posts.
Glad to have dodged that bullet Flex. I will make sure my proof reading nannites scour every line of text to help ensure against any TROLLING. Much appreciation and let me say you are a most needed and unique voice here at the CBR.
These guys have a dangerous job and seeing old age would be a luxury not something to just ease on into after one easy task after another( then there's also just artist interpretation )
I concur completely with you on artist interpretation, however aesthetics aside there has not been a decisive statement made in regards to the life span of Wakandans let alone Black Panthers. It would stand to reason that Wakandans in general should easily have, at the least, twice the life expectancy of say Americans; Black Panthers in particular significantly more than that.
While we agree that the “job” of a Black Panther can be a dangerous one, the same could be said for Nick Fury’s and the Black Widow’s who both fought in WW2, Magneto who was alive during the Jewish holocaust, Daredevil’s mentor Stick and Reed Richards’ father Nathan; all of whom are humans who either look advanced in years or it has been stated as such. The Hulk and Wolverine are damn near immortal. So it wouldn’t be beyond the scope of reason to see some elderly Black Panthers. Now if they have died or were killed at a mature age and chose to manifest in a particular form so be it.
He has access to past Black Panther's knowledge wich means it's also a two way street where as shown those guys can ask him questions and critique what he's currently doing aka Hickman using them to say the same things some fans have been saying about his use of T'Challa.
Agreed, this is quite feasible.
Why look to the past for a female Black Panther when we have a awesome one in Shuri who some folks want to either down play or erase from continuity
The great character she is not withstanding, Shuri is not an ancestress. Why is Tchalla looking to the past? Hudlin stated in his run that there were female Black Panthers. Omitting the more than significant contribution of women is either male ignorance, male bias or both. When Tchalla or Shuri consult with their ancestors both genders should be present; I mean after all the males didn’t do it all by themselves.
If you're talking about faces post Hudlin then you must be referring to the many x-book tales as under writers who aren't into trolling he's taken out The Kingpin and universe hopping beings
In addition to the X-Men books there have been some serious about faces; During Hudlin there was Deadliest of the Species in which Tchalla was not only taken unaware by Doom but his soul found itself not with his ancestors, not with the Panther spirit but in some foreign, nondescript limbo; add insult to injury he was no longer the Black Panther. Post Hudlin there was the ignominious Doomwar by Maberry, where we find Tchalla on his knees, Doom’s mastery of the mystical qualities of vibranium and Tchalla on his knees. Nuff said.
In Liss’ Man Without Fear, Tchalla leaves his powers and equipment, leaves Wakanda, leaves Afraka, leaves his wife to take DD’s old job and prove himself in Hell’s Kitchen. In the pages written by Hickman Tchalla takes Reed (the only person that can keep, though he did nothing) as a soul brother (forget all the qualified Wakandan applicants), becomes the easily dismissed, opaque King of the Dead, signs up with the Illuminati and looses the respect of his sister and the Dora Milaje while consoling Namor.
While the Black Panther, Storm and Wakanda defeat of the Skrulls was well done (technically speaking that occurred in between Hudlin’s run) I’m not so sure the same can be said about Infinity. During the entirety of Thanos’ attack, did Waknda get a decisive victory?
As for the supposed Kingpin of Wakanda aka Wilson Fisk, he isn't even in Tchalla’s league when the Black Panther is written at his full potential. That story made the Wakandan financial officials act and respond to stimuli like some third year bank teller working at Wells Fargo. This is a warrior state (remember Secret Invasion). How does the Kingpin bribe or blackmail Wakandans, when there should be absolutely nothing he can offer or threaten them with.
The Kingpin may have worked in Niganda but never in Wakanda. Hell Doomwar was a better set up though I would argue the same that Doom should not be able to corrupt and manipulate Wakandans the way he did. If Wakanda is such a xenophobic, isolationist, warrior nation why would any outsider be able to influence them in such a manner?
Tchalla’s hand to hand combat with the Kingpin made the Black Panther appear less the Most Dangerous Man Alive and more the man barely staying alive as we are forced to witness Tchalla getting physically trounced by the “fatman”. Even without the heart shaped herbs and spiritual connection the Panther spirit, Tchalla is DD’s superior and we've seen the wars Fisk and Murdock had.
I love Priest's run but I'm not beholden to his or Hudlin's run and expect everyone to just regurgitate exactly what they did
Not regurgitation, but more consistency and continuity in demonstrating who the Black Panther is and what he is capable of to the extreme.

Sounds like you wanna complain and nitpick for the sake of complaining and nitpicking
Makes sense you'd be on the same level as Flex as the mental gymnastics both of you do to turn positives you don't like into negatives is equal except you've taken a passive aggressive approach
You can claim you want consistency all you want but what you're saying is "I want the same old stuff over and over"

Here is the problem I have with Ture...
He has all that truth bottled up inside him and he only shares it every once in a while so my lawyers are suing him for more posts like that one! :D
Also... My apologies to Majestic for forgetting that he is a scan master in his own right!
