Not sure if anyone's already seen this material accumulating over at The Atlantic, courtesy of Mr. Coates. I've done some reading, and not seeing other links thus far:

Link doesn't seem to work, can you try reposting it?

Yeah, sure.

Seems there was a number in the URL that was Important...

I'm glad he is reading past runs to compile a list of T'Challa's tendencies. Sometimes it feels like writers research a characters history but only draw on their understanding of a personality through the previous writer. At least if a quality writer is willing to commit a variety of past writers takes on a character into their own there is a big chance that a reader will find something from 'their version'.

Bandai Tamashii will be doing a Black Panther SH Figuart for Civil War.

I spoke to Brian Stelfreeze this past weekend and he talked about Ta-Nehisi Coates. Stelfreeze said he was initially reluctant to team up with Coates because he was not sure how much Coates knew of Panther since he has not written comics previously. He soon found out that Coates knew more about Black Panther's mythology and history than he did. So it seems that Coates is a true fan of T'Challa and knows his history. I am so ready for this series.

I gotta say BP is sort of lucky he's debuting in the Civil War movie. It seems like there's 3 times as much merchendise and toys being put out for his movie as any other, except maybe the Avengers.
But I guess that sort of makes sense since this practically is an Avengers movie.
-
Just read an article by the upcoming Black Panther writer, and he mentioned High John the Conqueror, an IRL folklore character known by the African slaves. Apparently he was a trickster slave who might have been the inspiration for the briar rabbit, and infamously tricked the Devil to marry his daughter (before the two just ran away). Now, I'm not suggesting anything, but Satanna Hellstrom is a daughter of a Devil figure in Marvel Comics, and it wouldn't be unlikely or impossible to create a superhuman/mystical character that was their child or grandchild. :p

It helps that he has a very cool look that easily translates to toys.

T'challa is lucky.
No individual hero got to debut in another bigger movie before their solo.

it's not in English but their reaction to the Appearance of BP is just awesome

Nice scoop!
I think its safe to say that Coates being a fan of T'Challa wasn't much of an issue. Apparently his comic book knowledge is on point and it appears that he has done his homework via researching previous runs.
Like anything though, it'll be about execution and which direction he'll send T'Challa and the BP mythos. We'll see once the book drops in April.

Not sure how the comic will turn out to be but this is the writer we need. Someone who knows about T'Challa's mythos.
**** you Maberry for that crap you pulled with Doomwar
Also can we ever get to where T'Challa actually beats doom instead of just mocking him. Just realised he has never beaten Doom in a fist fight even during hudlin's run

I may not be a fan of Maberry's take on T'Challa but I don't think he deserves to be abused like this.

Maybe your right.
But reading Maberry's interview of how he was a fan of T'Challa and seeing how Doom was just toying around with him and then leading to a pay off that was just pitiful lackluster, I find it hard to forgive him for that
It did have good moments though I will give him that

Most people familiar with my feelings on Maberry's Doomwar, know how much I hated certain aspects of the event especially as regards the way in which Doom thoroughly chumped out Ororo and T'Challa.
However, even I have to give Maberry props for actually having T'Challa come up with the totally new and original Shadow Physics, Nowhere Room and the Shadow Particle edged weaponry that the Midnight Angels were equipped with.
Maberry gave T'Challa a signature science discovery that really needed to be developed beyond Doomwar.
Unfortunately, every writer who's written T'Challa post Doomwar has chosen to forget Shadow Physics and all of the cool stuff Maberry introduced into the BP mythos. (My account hasn't been hacked.)

Who are you and what have you done with Maj?
Seriously though. Yes Mayberry had some good stuff added that hasn't really been expanded on past being able to teleport and maybe those energy gauntlets and grenades T'Challa used in Hickman's run. But I feel like he only added that in to be a substitute for the destruction of the Vibranium and have that be the new thing Wakanda was known for. The event had potential to be good, it just focused too much on how mighty Doom is and how feeble T'Challa is compared to him as well as his plot armor being so thick that he can't be legit beat and lose something

How would you guys feel about Iron Man and Spider-Man sharing Killmonger as an adversary?
Considering his business sense I could see him competing with Parker and Stark Industries as a leading businessman. Perhaps he could also employ Serpent Solutions and draw in Captain America.
Obviously he'd primarily stay a BP villain, but I think showing him as a credible threat absent BP's direct involvement from time to time will only help Black Panther in the long run.

My personal recollection of the reaction to Maeberry run at least on the CBR was that it was mostly positive until the last 3 issues of Doom War.
I honestly think people were fine with a good 90% of his run.

We counting the co scripted stuff with Hudlin? If so he's at 68%, if not 40%.
Vol. 5 #1-6 (Hud and M) + Vol. 5 #7-12 (Ma) + Doomwar #1-6 + Klaws #1-4 = 22 issues.
The last 7 books were total garbage so either 15/22 or if the conscripted stuff doesn't count 9/22.

I'd be cool with it so long as Killmonger's treated with respect and made to be a threat. If he gets turned into Klaw 2.0, that's not a good look.

I'm going to buy it. But I'm not in love with the mold they did for the legends figure. The ninja foot looks weird. It needs swap able hands. Hell it needs anything more then just 1 damn head.
Proportions are odd. Seems to bulky up top.

But there is sort of a tricky thing will Killmonger.
Arguably his big thing is that T'Challa never straight up beat him.
Odds are if he shows up in Iron Man or Spider-Man, that won't be the case. Odds are pretty good he WILL lose because that's what villains typically do in comic book stories.
So you probably want to bring Killmonger back and have T'Challa beat him before sending him out to inevitably lose to Iron Man and Spider-Man. Not that Killmonger can't look good even in a losing effort to other heroes, because I DO agree if he wants to be seen as a big time threat he needs to face other heroes. He's gotta get out there a bit.

You bring up a good point. Perhaps Killmonger should enter the fray as an Avengers level threat.
